MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Chris McDevitt (Central Bucks West) scored 10 points in Widener’s 89-81 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy on Sunday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Shakia Robinson (North Penn) was named UMass Athlete of the Week after playing a pivotal role in the Minutewomen’s come-from-behind 72-69 victory over Wagner last Sunday. This marks the second career award for Robinson who earned the honor for the first time earlier this month. Robinson led the UMass comeback against the Seahawks with a game-high 22 points and a career-best 12 rebounds as the squad erased a 17-point second half deficit. In the final eight minutes of play, Robinson had 11 of her team’s 20 points and seven of the squad’s 11 boards during that span. The Minutewomen scored the final 14 points in the contest, which included nine from Robinson. She hit what turned out to be the game-winning bucket with 32 seconds to play, coming up with a crucial offensive board and tip-in shot. She finished the game shooting 9-for-16 (.563) from the field en route to her second career double-double. Robinson is currently UMass’ leading rebounder with an average of 7.2 per game and ranks second on the squad in scoring with 13.1 points per game. In Tuesday night’s 78-72 win over Miami (Ohio), Robinson had 11 points.
Senior Liz Leer (Abington) had 18 points in American University’s 83-49 win over Troy on Wednesday night. It was the fifth straight win for American, which improved to 7-4 on the season. Freshman Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) contributed two points, two steals, one rebound and an assist off the bench.
Senior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) posted a double-double in LaSalle’s 65-62 loss to Seton Hall on Sunday. Gale scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down 11 boards for her second double-double of the season.
