MEN’S BASKETBALL
Temple senior guard Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference co-Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3. Wyatt, the Atlantic 10 Conference’s leading scorer (18.6 PPG), averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Owls. He scored a career-high 34 points in a 70-69 loss to St. Joseph’s while making a career-best seven three-pointers on 14 attempts. In Temple’s 71-64 win over Richmond, he grabbed a career-high tying seven rebounds while scoring 19 points. For the year, Wyatt has been game-high scorer nine times and has been averaging 25.1 points over the last seven outings.
Wyatt drained a long three with 7.1 seconds remaining to cap an improbable comeback and lead Temple to a 72-71 win at Dayton on Saturday. Wyatt’s trey capped a 14-3 Temple run over the final 4:31 that wiped away a 10-point deficit (68-58). Wyatt finished with a game-high 20 points. In Temple’s 89-88 win over Charlotte Wednesday night, Wyatt scored a team-high 25 points. The Owls received a season-high 11 points from Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury).
Sophomore guard Sean Brooks (North Penn) scored 11 points and handed out two assists in Washington College’s 72-57 win over Gettysburg on Saturday. Teammate Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) added four points and five rebounds off the bench. For Gettysburg, Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed nine points and five rebounds while teammate Derek Brooks (North Penn) had eight points and six boards. In Washington College’s 72-70 win over Swarthmore on Wednesday, Sean Brooks scored on a putback lay-in as time expired to give the Shoremen the overtime win. Brooks finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists while Knox had six rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot.
Poston contributed nine points, nine rebounds and a career-high four assists in Gettysburg’s 56-49 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday while Brooks added six points and three rebounds.
Wesley Brooks (North Penn) contributed four points and one steal in McDaniel’s 70-60 loss to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday.
CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored six points in St. Joseph’s 80-62 loss to Massachusetts on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 60-54 loss to Dayton, Aiken scored 11 points.
Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) collected yet another double-double in Penn State Abington’s 108-104 win over Penn State Berks on Wednesday, scoring 27 points and grabbing 17 boards.
Junior point guard Chris Davis (Norristown) matched a career-high with 10 assists in Alvernia’s 66-55 win over York College last Monday. In Saturday’s 75-59 win over Widener, Davis contributed 12 points – including back-to-back three’s in an 8-0 run early in the second half - and four rebounds.
Junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) contributed 14 points and five rebounds in Cabrini’s 80-68 win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Thursday.
Joe Renzi (Abington) contributed eight points, seven rebounds and four assists in Elizabethtown’s 81-77 loss to Widener.
Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored a team-high 23 points in Villanova’s 94-71 over DePaul on Tuesday.
Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) scored nine points on 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc in Delaware Valley’s 73-52 win over King’s College on Wednesday.
Tim Abruzzo (Pennridge) scored 10 points in Navy Prep’s 64-63 win over the Community College of Rhode Island.
Pat Furst (Central Bucks West) scored 10 points and pulled down three rebounds in Wilkes University’s 72-61 win over Eastern on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 60-42 win over FDU-Florham, Furst had seven points and four rebounds.
Zach Thomas (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored seven points off the bench in Neumann University’s 64-60 win over Marywood University on Wednesday. Steve Warhola (Neshaminy) added five points and one assist.
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) hit a game-tying three-pointer to send the game into a second overtime and finished with 19 points and a career-high seven assists in 50 minutes played in Bloomsburg’s 100-94 triple overtime win over Millersville on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 80-64 win over Cheyney, Christmas tied his season high with 29 points.
AJ Picard (Souderton) contributed 18 points and seven rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 86-83 win over Lincoln (Pa.) on Wednesday.
Dan Werth (Souderton) scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in Eastern University’s 72-61 loss to Wilkes on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 66-59 win over Misericordia, Werth contributed six points and four rebounds.
Junior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) had eight points in Moravian’s 77-60 win over Susquehanna on Saturday.
Sophomore Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting in Sihppensburg’s 74-66 loss at Mansfield on Saturday. The PW grad was 6-of-6 at the free throw line. In Wednesday’s 70-66 win over Kutztown, Pygatt had a career performance with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting in addition to six rebounds.
Senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored 11 points in Philadelphia University’s 60-59 loss to Holy Family on Wednesday. Teammate Nick Christian (Bensalem) was credited with four assists.
Junior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored nine points and also contributed four rebounds and two assists in Ursinus College’s 58-50 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Mark Wonderling (Souderton) contributed four points off the bench. In Wednesday’s 64-62 win over Haverford, Krasna connected on a foul line jumper with one second remaining for the game winner. The Pennsbury grad contributed seven points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Wonderling added five points, three assists and two rebounds.
Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 13 points and five assists without a turnover in No. 13 East Stroudsburg’s 64-60 win over Kutztown on Sunday afternoon. It was the Warriors 13th straight win. Prior to Sunday’s game, Grant had scored 17-plus points in leading ESU in scoring in each of the last nine games. He is averaging exactly 20.0 PPG during the 13-game winning streak. In Wednesday’s 83-72 win over Cheyney, Grant scored 25 points, 14 in the second half. Grant ranks sixth in the PSAC in scoring (18.2). He is also second in three-point percentage (49-of-116, 42.2 percent).
Ryan Connolly (Souderton) went 3-of-8 from three-point range on his way to 10 points in Kutztown’s 70-66 loss to Shippensburg on Wednesday.
Freshman Aaron Morgan (Council Rock North) contributed four points in UMBC’s 79-56 loss to Albany on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Shippensburg freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3. It is the fifth time she has received that honor this season. The North Penn grad played a major role in two more victories for a Raiders’ squad that is one game out of first place in the PSAC East. In a 70-58 win over first place Millersville, Knauer answered the call against reigning All-PSAC forward Aurielle Mosley on the defensive end and contributed six points and five rebounds. Her layup while fouled with 1:56 to play helped clinch the win. In Shippensburg’s win over Cheyney, Knauer finished with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season and first in the last four games. She shot 5-of-8 from the field and went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Knauer ranks 13th in the PSAC in scoring (12.4) and leads all freshmen. She is second in the PSAC in rebounding (9.3).
Knauer contributed 13 points on a 6-of-7 shooting effort from the floor in Shippensburg’s 81-55 win over Mansfield Saturday. She also had six rebounds and two assists. In Wednesday’s 72-63 win over Kutztown, Knauer shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, recording 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sophomore center Emily Leer (Abington) had a team-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, which included a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range, in Villanova’s 59-52 loss to No. 2 Notre Dame on Tuesday.
Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) contributed six points and two rebounds in Neumann University’s 65-57 win over Immaculata on Wednesday.
Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three steals in Millersville’s 76-58 win over West Chester on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 64-62 win over Bloomsburg, Newman registered her second double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) had 13 points and 13 rebounds in Lock Haven’s 70-67 loss to Mercyhurst on Wednesday.
Ashley Rosario (Harry S Truman) contributed seven points and seven rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 54-45 win over Georgian Court on Wednesday.
Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored nine points and pulled down three rebounds in Haverford’s 44-37 loss to Ursinus.
Tori Steinberg (Central Bucks South) scored 12 points in Ursinus College’s 69-65 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
Freshman guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had seven points, seven rebounds and eight steals in East Stroudsburg’s 62-47 win over Cheyney on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 76-65 overtime loss to Kutztown, Gemmell had two points, five rebounds and five steals after entering the game ranked third in the PSAC with 2.6 steals per game.
Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) scored 11 points in No. 12 St. Thomas University’s 91-64 win over Webber International University on Saturday. St. Thomas is 23-2 on the season. In Friday’s 88-40 win over Warner, Ciccarone contributed nine assists.
Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) contributed seven points, four rebounds and two blocked shots in Princeton’s 68-37 win over Brown on Saturday.
Sam Simononis (Pennridge) scored six points in Vermont’s 71-55 loss to UMBC on Saturday.
Junior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) contributed 12 points and nine rebounds while Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) scored 11 points, which included three three-pointers, in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 97-25 win over Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 79-55 loss to Cabrini, Dominic scored 12 points.
Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed five points and six rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 61-54 loss to King’s College on Wednesday.
Freshman Carley Kendall (Souderton) had six points and three rebounds in Washington College’s 61-49 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday.
Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in American University’s 69-44 win over Colgate on Saturday.
Ginny Edwards (Central Bucks South) pulled down nine rebounds and also scored three points in Wilkes University’s 60-45 win over Keystone last Monday.
Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds in Bloomsburg’s 94-55 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
FOOTBALL
Lebanon Valley junior Brendan Kozub (Council Rock North) was named a captain for the 2013 season. A returning starter, Kozub earned Honorable Mention All-MAC honors after starting all 10 games at left guard. He is a three-year starter on the offensive line.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Junior Sean Staerk (Abington) captured first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:58.33 in Gettysburg’s 169-92 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Sophomore Ashton Levens (Upper Dublin) was part of the first place 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:11.01. In Wednesday’s 135-69 win over Dickinson, Levin won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.56, and freshman Ian Scullion (Central Bucks South) captured first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:22.78.
Sophomore TJ Guminski (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of Lycoming College’s record-setting 400 medley relay at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Friday, posting a time of 3:38.61 and smashing the record of 3:40.51 set in 2003. He notched a 1:01.84 split in the breastroke portion,
Ryan Supplee (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 16th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.37 at Saturday’s MAC Championships. He also was part of Elizabethtown’s 200 free relay team that was 0.97 short of the sixth and final All-MAC spot. The team’s time of 1:32.65 was a new season-best by just under five seconds.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Jan Ikeda (North Penn) was part of Lebanon Valley’s 200 free relay that established a new record with a time of 1:43.05 on Day 1 of the 2013 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Ikeda led off with a 25.38 split to shave 14-hundreths off her previous best. On Saturday, Ikeda captured a silver medal in the 100-yard butterfly to highlight Day 2 of the MAC Swimming Championships. She posted a time of 57.82.
Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was part of the first place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:42.07 in Arizona’s 203-92 win over Arizona State. She also was part of the winning 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:32.62.
Junior Ali Roth (Central Bucks West) finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.39) and the 100 freestyle (55.70) in Gettysburg’s 149-113 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Sophomore Ellie Houser (Upper Dublin) was part of the winning 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:54.73. In Wednesday’s 119-86 win over Dickinson, Roth won the 50 free with a time of 25.15. She also was part of the winning 400 medley relay team that posted a time of 4:11.10.
Sophomore Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) won the 100 free with a time of 56.13 in Ursinus College’s 102.5-89.5 win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon.
Kelsey Tennett (Hatboro-Horsham) finished eighth with a score of 214.55 in the 1m board in West Chester’s triangular diving meet with Division I foes Drexel and Towson. She finished fourth in the 3m board.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior outside hitter Noah Prickett (Pennsbury) finished with a game-high 19 kills and a team-high 11 digs in Cairn University’s 3-2 win over Hunter College on Tuesday. Ethan Mawhinney (Neshaminy) posted a game-high 10 blocks while Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) had 12 kills.
Junior Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) had 28 kills and 14 digs as Stevenson swept No. 2 Carthage and downed Thiel 3-1 in a CVC Crossover on Saturday. Jacoby had a team-high 13 kills against Carthage while committing just one error in 29 attempts for a .414 hitting percentage. He also added seven digs. In the win over Thiel, Jacoby added 15 more kills to go along with seven digs.
WRESTLING
Senior John Lindquist (Neshaminy) pinned West Liberty’s David Schlieper just before the end of the period at 165 in Shippensburg’s 40-6 win over Liberty on Tuesday.
Ursinus sophomore Richard Jasinksi (Pennridge) appeared in the most recent D3Wrestle.com rankings at 157. He boasts a 29-2 record.
Matt Rappo (Council Rock South) earned an 11-2 major decision at 141 in 14th-ranked Bloomsburg’s 39-0 win over George Mason on Sunday.
