BASEBALL
East Stroudsburg is ranked No. 6 in the first National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region poll of the regular season after opening the year with a school record 7-0 start. On the mound, sophomore Andy Noga (Cheltenham) has won his first two starts. In nine innings, he has seven strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Keith Moyer (Souderton) has a win and a save in two relief appearances. In six innings, he has 11 strikeouts and three walks and has yet to allow an earned run. Noga and Moyer were the winning pitchers in East Stroudsburg’s sweep of Chowan (13-0, 13-2) on Saturday.
Junior centerfielder Eric Blood (Pennridge) contributed an RBI single in Chestnut Hill’s 11-3 loss to Molloy College. He also contributed a sacrifice fly in Chestnut Hill’s 7-5 loss to Dowling.
Chris Edgar (North Penn) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Millersville’s 12-0 romp over Fairmont State on Sunday. On Saturday, Edgar hit a grand slam home run in a nine-run second inning in Millersville’s 24-2 rout of Fairmont State. On Friday, he contributed two hits and scored two runs in Millersville’s 11-0 win over Davis & Elkins.
Keith Meyer (Council Rock North) was one of 97 student-athletes honored as 2010-11 Bloomsburg University Scholar-Athletes. The student-athletes chosen have achieved a GPA of 3.25 or higher over the past two semesters and/or have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) hit a solo home run in La Salle’s 7-2 win over Longwood on Sunday. Relievers Kevin Christy (North Penn) and Zach Huff (Pennridge) did not allow a run in the final three innings to preserve the win. On Saturday, sophomore Eric Kammler (Pennridge) contributed a sacrifice fly in game one of La Salle’s doubleheader sweep of Longwood.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) contributed a team-high 21 points and also pulled down three rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 89-56 win over Nyack College on Friday. Sophomore guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) added 19 points. In Wednesday’s 71-61 loss to Goldey-Beacom, Connolly scored a team-high 24 points, which included five three-pointers. Christian added eight points and nine boards.
Sophomore guard Derek Brooks (North Penn) scored nine points in Gettysburg’s 71-62 loss to second-seeded Dickinson College in the Centennial Conference Tournament semifinals.
Senior forward Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) had his best game of the season, contributing game-highs of 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead #24 Temple to a come-from-behind 57-41 win at George Washington Saturday. With the win, the Owls clinched a first round bye in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament. In Wednesday’s 78-61 loss to top-ranked Duke, Allen led Temple with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Freshman C.J. Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a career-high 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting in St. Joseph’s 79-65 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
Bruce Kennedy (Wissahickon) contributed 10 points in Cheyney’s 78-72 win over cross-town rival West Chester on Wednesday.
Cabrini defeated Gwynedd-Mercy 92-70 in the finals of the CSAC Tournament on Friday night. Freshman forward Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored 18 points for Cabrini, connecting on 7-of-9 shots overall and 4-of-5 from three-point distance. Teammate Dom Farrello (William Tennent) added a team-best 11 rebounds with seven points. Gwynedd junior Dan DelConte (Wissahickon) scored 12 points. In Gwynedd’s opening round 85-65 win over Keystone on Monday, DelConte handed out a game-high 10 assists. In Cabrini’s opening round 79-76 CSAC semifinal win over Neumann, Farrello scored the game winner with 29 seconds remaining. He was one of four Cabrini players in double figures, scoring 16 points, which included 13 in the second half. Sophomore center Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) scored 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting and also pulled down nine rebounds. Rafferty added eight points and six rebounds.
Freshman Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored nine points in Bloomsburg’s 61-58 win over West Chester on Saturday in the team’s season finale. On Thursday, he had eight points in Bloomsburg’s 83-64 loss to East Stroudsburg.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior guard Taylor Magnus (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 15 points in Philadelphia University’s 76-58 win over Nyack College on Friday. In Wednesday’s 85-81 overtime win over Goldey-Beacom College, Magnus scored a team-high 17 points.
Senior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) scored 12 points in La Salle’s 67-63 win over Massachusetts on Saturday. With three steals, Gale broke the La Salle single-season record for steals and now has 91 on the season. In Monday’s 69-65 loss to Richmond, Gale scored 18 points.
Redshirt junior forward Brittany McClain (Harry S. Truman) scored 15 points in East Stroudsburg’s 89-65 loss to Shippensburg in the season finale for both schools on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 85-54 loss to Bloomsburg, McClain contributed 13 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Junior Heather McHugh (Norristown) scored nine points in Lock Haven’s season-ending 81-66 loss to California (Pa.) on Saturday. On Wednesday, McHugh had five points, two assists and two steals while freshman Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored four points in Lock Haven’s 72-52 loss to IUP on Wednesday. In Monday’s 73-32 loss to IUP, Ryan scored six points.
Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) scored 19 points while teammate Sophia Waters (Norristown) added 17 points in Millersville’s 67-58 win over Kutztown in the regular season finale for both schools on Saturday. Newman, who ranks third in Division II with 3.9 steals per game, nabbed a game-high eight steals. She also had eight assists. In Wednesday’s 70-56 win over Shippensburg, Newman scored a career-high 30 points. It is the most points scored by a Marauder since the 2005-06 season. She tallied 19 of her points in the second half on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc. She also went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe in the second period. Waters added seven points.
Sophomore Shakia Robinson (North Penn) contributed 10 points and six rebounds in the University of Massachusetts 67-64 loss to LaSalle in its regular season finale on Saturday. In the Minutewomen’s 61-52 loss to Fordham on Wednesday, Robinson scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Senior Lindsey Tennett (Pennridge) contributed 11 points and eight rebounds in Holy Family’s 71-56 win over Felician College in the regular season finale on Friday night. The win was the 11th straight for the Tigers. In Wednesday’s 60-51 win over the University of the Sciences, junior Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) scored nine points, which included a perfect 7-for-7 effort at the foul line. She also had six rebounds. The win clinched the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title for the Tigers, who are ranked 17th in the most recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and first in the NCAA Division II East Region.
Senior Addie Micir (Council Rock North) scored a team-high 17 points in Princeton’s 65-52 win over Colombia on Saturday.
Freshman Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) scored 12 points in Dowling’s 83-46 win over Molloy on Wednesday.
Sophomore Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored six points in Bloomsburg’s 68-47 win over West Chester on Saturday. The Huskies boast a 13-1 record in conference play and 21-5 overall.
For the third time this season, Swarthmore senior Kathryn Stockbower (Upper Dublin) was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week. Playing possibly her final games as a member of the Garnet, the senior captain closed out her stellar career by averaging 15 points and 18 rebounds in a pair of Garnet wins. She shot 48 percent from the field and raised her career double-double total to 83 with 16 points and 14 boards vs. Bryn Mawr and 15 points and 22 rebounds vs. Haverford. Against the Fords, she hit a pair of game-clinching free throws with 9.1 seconds left to play to help seal the win. Stockbower is Swarthmore’s all-time leading rebounder (1,335) and ranks third in career scoring (1,667). She is also the NCAA Division III leader in career double-doubles.
Stockbower also was named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team. It is the fourth time she was named to the first team. The senior captain is just the second player in conference history to earn first team All-Centennial honors four times. Stockbower is one of just five students who were also named to the Conference Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes sophomores, juniors and seniors who are key performers and have a 3.40 cumulative grade point average or higher. Stockbower capped off an illustrious career with a record-breaking final season. For the 2010-11 season, she led the Centennial Conference in rebounding average (12.4 RPG), finished fourth in scoring average (14.8 PPG), fifth in shooting percentage (48 percent) and 16th in the nation in rebounding average. During the season, Stockbower – a preseason second team All-American – broke numerous Swarthmore program records and reached several national and conference milestones. With 83 career double-doubles, she is the all-time NCAA Division III leader, breaking the record with her 80th career double-double at Johns Hopkins on Feb. 5. She also became Swarthmore’s all-time leading rebounder against Muhlenberg on Feb. 2. Stockbower is one of only three players in Centennial Conference history to reach 1,500 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Stockbower also was named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-America First Team. A third team selection in 2009-10, the senior captain made the college division first team for the first time in her career.
American University senior forward Liz Leer (Abington) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week. Leer averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in American’s two wins last week. She began the week with a 14-point, nine-rebound effort in AU’s 60-47 win over Army. She followed that with 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Eagles fought back from a double-digit deficit to defeat Holy Cross 83-72. The double-double against Holy Cross was Leer’s fifth of the season. She recorded the 200th blocked shot of her career in AU’s win over Holy Cross. She now ranks sixth in Patriot League history. For the season, Leer is averaging team-bests with 13.1 PPG and 6.8 rebounds. She is currently second in the Patriot League in both field goal percentage (51.4) and three-point percentage (42.0) this season while ranking in the top seven in scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage and blocked shots. This is Leer’s second career Patriot League Player of the Week honor. She received the award last season on Feb. 15, 2010, after posting a career-high 27 points in a win over Colgate.
Leer contributed 21 points and nine rebounds to lead American to an 82-47 win over Lafayette on Saturday. Teammate Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) also finished in double figures with 12 points on five-of-six shooting from the field. With the win, AU clinched a share of its third Patriot League regular season championship in the last four years. The win also gives the Eagles their 20th win of the season, marking the second straight year and fifth time in program history they have reached that plateau. In Wednesday’s 63-57 loss to Navy, Leer scored a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds as she made her 122nd career appearance as an Eagle, tying her for the program record.
Freshman Taylour Alston (North Penn) blocked six shots to go along with 12 points and 12 rebounds in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 61-47 win over Baptist Bible in the first round the CSAC Tournament on Monday night.
Gwynedd-Mercy junior Bryn Cotteta (Norristown) was named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Cabrini freshman Brittany Sandone (Souderton) received honorable mention recognition when the Colonial State Athletic Conference released its all-league teams. Sandone led Cabrini in scoring in 11 games and shot a team-best 39.8 percent from three-point range. She scored a season and career high 25 points on 7-for-13 shooting against rival Eastern University on Jan. 31. Sandone averaged 14.0 points per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the field in her final nine games. During that stretch, she shot 50 percent (21-for-42) from long range.
Ursinus senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Upper Dublin) received honorable mention recognition when the All-Centennial team was announced. Hilf led the team in three-pointers with 37 and was second in points per game with 7.5. Sporting a team-best 52 assists, she averaged a team-high 31.3 minutes per game. She scored a season-high 17 points against Muhlenberg on Jan. 19.
Hilf scored eight points in Ursinus College’s 61-49 loss to Franklin & Marshall in an opening round game of the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Widener sophomore attacker Johnny Casey (Abington), who was sidelined for the entire season last year due to injury, returns the lineup after earning MAC Rookie of the Year honors. Widener has been selected to repeat as Middle Atlantic Conference champions, according to a poll of the league’s coaches.

Sophomore Lauren McDermott (North Penn) led the Explorers with three goals and five points in LaSalle’s 9-8 win over Lafayette on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 17-6 win over Iona, McDermott scored four goals.

In the Owls’ 8-7 loss to Missouri on Friday, Schoell also had an RBI single. In the Owls’ 5-3 win over Western Michigan on Friday, Schoell contributed a two-run single.

La Salle junior Nick Crits (Wissahickon) earned a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 team as a member of both the 4x800 meter relay and distance medley relay teams. Sophomore Paul Reilly (Upper Dublin) also was part of the 4x800 meter relay.
Elizabethtown’s Chris Niles (Central Bucks South) finished third in the 400 meter dash (52.59) at Saturday’s MAC championships, good enough to earn All-MAC first team honors. Teammate Luke Rotenberger (Quakertown) came in a mere .14 later to claim fifth place and a spot on the All-MAC Second Team. Niles and Rotenberger both were part of the winning 4x400 relay. Elizabethtown finished third overall.
Bloomsburg’s Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) finished 11th in the 60m dash (7.08) at Saturday’s PSAC championships. He finished 12th in the 200m (22.69).
Millersville’s Kevin DiFlorio (Hatboro-Horsham) and Seth Hibbs (Hatboro-Horsham) collected two points for the Marauders in the distance medley relay at Saturday’s PSAC championships. In the heptathlon, Zac Kohler (Pennridge) finished seventh with 4,488 total points.
Widener freshman Mick Coleman (William Tennent) won the pole vault (4.25 meters) at the MAC Indoor Championship on Saturday. Michael Quinn (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and John Ruggiero (Central Bucks South) were part of the 4x800 meter relay that finished second with a time of 8:05.72.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Penn State freshman Brittney Howell (Cheltenham) contributed scoring performances in the pentathlon and long jump in the day-one preliminaries of the Big Ten Women’s Indoor Championships.
Bloomsburg’s Lilly Anderson (Cheltenham) took 11th in the long jump with a leap of 4.88 at the PSAC championships on Saturday. Martina Drew (Neshaminy) was part of the distance medley that finished fifth.
Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) and Michelle Blum (Central Bucks East) were part of Millersville’s distance medley relay that finished sixth at this weekend’s PSAC championships.
Lock Haven’s Vanita Moses (Neshaminy) took home the title in the women’s weight throw at this weekend’s PSAC championships with a PSAC and Lock Haven school record mark. Her winning toss of 57-01 is also a NCAA provisional mark and has her ranked 16th nationally.
WRESTLING
Ursinus sophomore Teddy Conrad (Central Bucks West) finished second in his weight class at the 2011 Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Washington & Lee University. Conrad, a sophomore 197 pounder, opened the day with a bye as the third seed. He pinned Erik Schott of the Merchant Marine Academy in 2:22 to advance to the finals. Pitted against top-seeded Reid Mosquera, Conrad lost by a major decision via a 20-10 score. Ursinus finished fourth overall.
East Stroudsburg senior Jesse Dunn (Harry S. Truman), unseeded in the 157-pound bracket, pinned No. 7 Nicholas Giuliette (Anderson) in 1:57 in his first consolation match after dropping a 6-4 decision to No. 8 Anthony Frost (Kutztown) in the first round. Dunn lost a 7-2 decision in the consolation quarters to John Linquist (Shippensburg).
