BASEBALL
Freshman infielder Billy Fleming (Council Rock South) contributed a pair of RBIs in West Virginia’s 6-5 win over Niagara on Tuesday. Fleming went 2-for-2 with two singles and two RBIs.

Sophomore Greg Welsh (Council Rock South) pitched a career-high 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs and four hits while striking out four in Penn State’s 10-6 loss to 23rd-ranked Mississippi State on Wednesday. On Sunday, Walsh recorded just one out but earned the win in Penn State’s 5-4 win over the University of Alabama Birmingham.

Leftfielder Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) contributed a pair of hits in Philadelphia University’s 7-6 win over Millersville on Tuesday.

Matt Hone (Council Rock North) had a pair of hits in Widener’s 11-10 win over Saint Joseph’s (Long Island) on Wednesday.

Second baseman Keith Meyer (Council Rock South) collected a pair of hits, scored two runs and contributed an RBI in Bloomsburg’s 11-9 win over Philadelphia University on Friday. Nick Donofry (Council Rock North) collected the game’s final out and earned the save after getting out of a bases-loaded jam. Rob Spragis (Central Bucks South) suffered the loss on the mound.

Junior Julian Faria (Pennsbury) delivered an RBI single that broke a scoreless tie in Alvernia’s 5-2 win over Penn State-Behrend on Tuesday.

Jordan Hofferman (Cheltenham) worked a scoreless inning in Arcadia’s 6-2 loss to Washington College. He did not allow a hit and struck out one. Junior Tyler Guentter (North Penn) also threw a scoreless inning.

Alex Latchum (Central Bucks South) contributed an RBI single in Chestnut Hill’s come-from-behind 7-4 win over Mercy College on Saturday. In Friday’s 11-4 win over Felician College, Latchum contributed a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Teammates Ray Puskar (Pennridge) and Joe Crane (Council Rock South) both contributed a hit and two RBIs. In Wednesday’s 8-7 win over Post University, Latchum (2-for-4), Puskar (2-for-5, 1 RBI, two runs), Crane (3-for-6, 2 runs) and Joe Mullin (Central Bucks South) (1-for-3, 1 RBI) all contributed.

Chris Edgar (North Penn) contributed a triple and one RBI while scoring three runs in Millersville’s 14-5 win over Clarion on Saturday.

Kevin Christy (North Penn) turned in another quality start on the hill and went six innings for his first win of the year in La Salle’s 6-3 win over East Tennessee State on Saturday. He allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Christy leads the Explorers with 32 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched this season.  In Friday’s 9-6 loss to East Tennessee State, Adam Kammler (Pennridge) had a pair of hits and one RBI while teammate Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) had an RBI single. In Wednesday’s 7-2 loss to Radford, Mike McLeod (Harry S Truman) threw a scoreless inning in relief.

Robbie Zinsmeister (North Penn) delivered a home run and three RBIs in IUP’s 11-1 win over Waldorf on Saturday. Teammate Dylan Tice (Pennridge) contributed a single and an RBI. In IUP’s 21-18 loss to Young Harris on Saturday, Zinsmeister contributed a home run, triple and three RBIs. Tice collected two RBIs.

Eric Ruth (North Penn) struck out a career-high 13 batters as the Winthrop Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Holy Cross on Saturday. Ruth earned the win after tossing 8.0 innings, a new career high for him. He gave up two runs (none earned) on eight hits and no walks.

Kurtis Roberts (Quakertown) tossed a scoreless inning in relief in East Stroudsburg’s 9-4 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday. He allowed one hit and fanned a pair. In Friday’s 9-6 win over Upper Iowa, Keith Moyer (Souderton) earned the win, working six innings and allowing four hits and three runs while striking out eight.

Will Erskine (North Penn) contributed two RBIs and scored two runs in Penn State-Abington’s 32-8 loss to #23 Shenandoah University on Thursday.

Sophomore centerfielder Pete O’Hara (Council Rock North) heads a cast of returning players for Delaware Valley College this spring. Last year O’Hara played in 27 games (26 starts) and led the team in batting (.375), slugging (.394), hits (39), runs (24), RBIs (26) and stolen bases (18). He added six doubles and one triple and also committed just one error in 64 chances in the middle of the outfield. Brandon Bell (Norristown) is coming off a freshman campaign that saw the second baseman bat .167 with seven runs and four RBIs in 20 contests (14 starts). Junior transfer Mike Ferrier (Pennridge) is expected to see time at the corner positions. Ferrier was an all-region player for Montgomery County Community College.

In Del Val’s season opener on Friday, O’Hara doubled and scored a run while Bell drove in a run as the Aggies earned a 5-0 win over Geneva College.

Junior Mike Bradstreet (North Penn) worked 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in the University of Rhode Island’s 2-1 win at Pepperdine on Friday. He allowed just one hit.

Tyler Orr (Neshaminy) delivered an RBI single in Eastern University’s 10-6 win over Averett College on Tuesday.

Ryan Brown (Souderton) contributed a single and scored a run in Messiah College’s 12-11 loss to Stevenson on Wednesday.

Dan Hinchcliff (North Penn) collected three hits in Catholic University’s 8-5 come-from-behind win in 11 innings over Averett on Thursday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed four points, three blocked shots and eight rebounds in the University of Texas’ 81-67 loss to Missouri in Friday night’s Big 12 Tournament semifinal. Texas received a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns, seeded 12th in the East Region, will face sixth-seeded Cincinnati in Friday’s opening round.

Junior Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) contributed 15 points, four assists and five steals in Temple’s 77-71 loss to the University of Massachusetts in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Friday. Temple is the fifth seed in the Midwest Region in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and with face the 12th seed, which will be the winner of the California/South Florida game.

Guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored a game-high 19 points in Philadelphia University’s 59-58 loss to Franklin Pierce in the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament on Saturday. Connolly moved into 39th place on the all-time scoring list with 1, 127 points. Guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) added 17 points for the Rams.

Freshman guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 11 points in East Stroudsburg’s 119-82 loss to West Liberty in a NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional contest on Saturday. Grant ended the season as ESU’s top scorer with 13.9 points per game and is the first freshman to lead the Warriors in scoring on a team that reached the postseason. His 431 points are second most by a freshman in school history, and he set freshman records with 54 three-pointers, 113 free throws and 42 steals while ranking second with 76 assists.

Sophomore Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored 11 points while teammate Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) had two points and three rebounds in Cabrini’s 78-58 win over the University of Scranton to win the Middlebury sectional on Saturday. The win propelled Cabrini into next weekend’s NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Final Four in Salem, Va. It is Cabrini’s first ever NCAA final four appearance and only the second time a Colonial States Athletic Conference team has advanced that far. In Friday’s 72-65 win over #21 Eastern Connecticut State, Dulac and Rafferty each had five rebounds.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Heath Kupecky (Upper Merion)
contributed a goal and an assist in Messiah College’s 25-2 win over Rosemont College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 11-3 win over Hood, Kupecky had three goals and one assist.

Johnny Casey (Abington) and Eric Breuninger (Upper Dublin) each scored goals in Widener’s 14-8 win over Frostburg on Saturday. Casey also contributed an assist.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Junior Lauren McDermott (North Penn) scored a pair of goals in La Salle’s 10-7 loss to Drexel on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 12-11 win over Lafayette, McDermott contributed a single goal.

Emily Maher (Pennridge) contributed a pair of goals while teammate Bernadette Maher (Council Rock North) added a goal and an assist in American University’s 12-8 loss to Holy Cross on Saturday.  In Wednesday’s 14-11 loss to Virginia Tech, Bernadette Maher contributed a pair of goals.

Senior Lauren Greco (Council Rock South) scored the game-winning goal with 1:16 remaining in regulation to give Holy Family a 15-14 victory over Mercy College on Wednesday.

Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a pair of goals in Millersville’s 21-16 loss to Shepherd on Friday.

Aubrey Bossert (Wissahickon) and Amanda Jaynes (Pennridge) each scored a pair of goals while Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) contributed a goal and an assist and teammate Carly Ball (North Penn) added a single goal in Bloomsburg’s 25-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. In Saturday’s 13-12 loss to Seton Hill, Ashley and Aubrey Bossert and Ball each contributed single goals.

Victoria Brady (North Penn) and Danielle Savoni (Hatboro-Horsham) each scored a goal in Penn State-Abington’s 16-8 loss to Wesley College on Saturday. Tori Kimberly (Central Bucks West) led the Lady Lions with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. In Wednesday’s 17-5 loss to Bryn Mawr, Brady contributed a pair of goals while Savoni added a goal and three ground balls.

Junior Roxanne Brown (Pennridge) scored Shippensburg’s only goal in the first half of Wednesday’s 14-5 loss to Seton Hill.

Julie Mineweaser (North Penn) scored three goals in St. Joseph’s 17-3 win over Presbyterian on Wednesday. Goalie Alisha Aquillino (Abington) was credited with 10 saves.

Senior Rachel Dirksen (Abington) and freshman Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) each collected a pair of goals in a game-changing stretch in #12 Messiah College’s 18-5 win over Ursinus College on Friday. Dirksen, who has a team-high 22 goals on the season, finished the game with five goals and one assist while Brunk contributed three goals and one assist.  In Wednesday’s 11-10 win over #20 Dickinson College, Dirksen had six goals and two assists.

Elizabeth Chatburn (Upper Dublin) scored a goal in Ursinus College’s 18-5 loss to Messiah. In Tuesday’s 19-4 win over Albright, Chatburn contributed the hat trick.

SOFTBALL
Millersville hurler Alicia Hughes (Quakertown) was honored as PSAC East Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 6. Hughes, one of only three upperclassmen and the only pitcher on the roster who is not a freshman, worked 5.2 innings in Millersville’s season opener again Chowan, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. She fanned three. Last season, as a sophomore, Hughes posted a 9-8 record but had a 2.57 ERA in 21 games (16 starts). She worked a total of 111.2 innings, striking out 69 and delivering 10 complete games.

Hughes absorbed the loss on the mound in Millersville’s 2-1 loss to Shepherd on Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three. Gabbie Berry (Norristown) drove in Millersville’s only run. Hughes and Danielle DiFilippo (Hatboro-Horsham) each collected one of the Marauders’ four hits in the contest. In Millersville’s 5-2 loss to Shepherd in the second game of the twinbill, freshman Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) worked a scoreless inning in relief, fanning a pair while not allowing a hit. In Millersville’s 3-0 loss to Urbana on Friday, Berry collected the Marauders’ only hit. Kulp did not allow a hit in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Samantha Schoell (North Penn) delivered an RBI single in Temple’s 6-1 win over Cleveland State on Saturday at the USF Under Armour Showcase Tournament in Clearwater, Fla.

Lindsey Iden (Council Rock North) was 2-for-3 with an RBI in Holy Family’s 2-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Tuesday. Teammates Deanna Myers (William Tennent) and Erica Reis (Central Bucks East) also contributed basehits. In Holy Family’s 4-3 win over Saginaw Valley, Reis had a hit and two RBIs while Iden added a hit and RBI.

Mary Ward (North Penn) contributed a double in IUP’s 13-9 loss to Southwest Minnesota State on Friday.

Jess Schuck (Council Rock South) tripled and scored on a Megan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) suicide squeeze to push the winning run across the plate in West Chester’s 2-1 win over New Haven on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 11-3 win over Philadelphia University, Kelly contributed a pair of hits while Kim Begley (Abington) delivered a hit and RBI. Devon Utterback (Central Bucks South) tossed a complete game to earn the win, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven and walking two.

Jaime Schwartz (Souderton) delivered an RBI single in Eastern University’s 6-0 win over Penn State-Harrisburg on Tuesday. In Monday’s 10-0 win over Bluefield College, Schwartz contributed a pair of hits.

Senior Heather Hannum (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed a single and scored a run in Kutztown’s 2-0 win over Dowling College on Saturday.

Kristen Palmerio (Norristown) reached 100 career hits in the sixth inning when she collected a leadoff single in Lebanon Valley’s 1-0 win over Misericordia on Friday. She also earned the win on the mound with her second shutout of the season. In Wednesday’s 12-3 loss to Saint Mary’s, Chelsea Detwiler (Norristown) contributed a two-run single. In Monday’s 5-0 win over Muhlenberg, Detwiler delivered a solo home run to left center in the second inning. Palmerio allowed five hits and four walks but struck out eight to collect her first win of the season.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
La Salle senior Laurie McLaughlin (North Penn) ended her collegiate diving career by placing 25th in the 1-meter competition at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships on Saturday. She scored 235.80 points. This was her best finish at Zones in her career. On Friday, McLaughlin placed 32nd on the 3-meter board with a 209.55.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Senior Eric Wolfe (Central Bucks South) was part of Shippensburg’s distance medley relay team that posted a time of 9:56.36 at the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. That time was faster than last year’s national championship finish and just one second behind Southern Connecticut for second place. The distance medley relay team achieved its second straight All-America citation.

Chris Niles (Central Bucks South) was part of Elizabethtown’s distance medley relay that finished ninth with a time of 10:27.25 at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Brandon Bennett-Green (Cheltenham) was part of Penn State’s 4x400 relay that finished second at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday at Boise State University, posting a time of 3:05.31 to finish second to Arkansas (3:04.92). One week earlier, that same relay team clocked a school record 3:05.22 at the Alex Wilson Invitational.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Kelsey Rose (Upper Dublin)
was part of St. Joseph’s distance medley relay team that posted a time of 11:45.91, which was good enough to capture sixth place at the ECAC Indoor Track Championships. The time broke a 13-year-old school record, breaking the previous record of 11:49.02 set in 1999.
