BASEBALL
Junior second baseman Billy Fleming (Council Rock South) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in West Virginia’s 14-11 win over Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon in Northridge, Calif. In Thursday’s 5-4 win over Northridge, Fleming contributed an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) was 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and three runs scored in Lock Haven’s 12-1 win over Ohio Valley in Clearwater Fla., on Saturday.

Brandon Martinez (North Penn) had a career-high four hits for the first time this season and the third time in his career in Kutztown’s 5-4 win over Saint Rose on Sunday. It was part of a 4-for-5 effort. Junior Warren Stimpson (Wissahickon) was 2-for-5. Freshman Matt Matricardi (Upper Dublin) pitched 1.1 innings of shutout relief, fanning a pair. In Saturday’s 10-2 win over Saint Rose, Martinez had a hit and two RBIs. Ryan Clow (Central Bucks East) came in relief in the seventh and pitched two innings while only allowing one earned run. He also had two strikeouts. In Kutztown’s 11-9 win over Saint Rose on Saturday, Martinez was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Stimpson was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Tyler Coleman (Quakertown) had a pair of sacrifice flies and finished with three RBIs in West Chester’s 12-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Fla.

Dan Hinchcliff (North Penn) recorded his first in-the-park home run of the season in Catholic University’s 4-3 win over Stevens Institute last Sunday. In Wednesday’s 8-7 win over Ursinus, Hinchcliff was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.

Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and one run scored in IUP’s 10-2 win over East Stroudsburg in the second game of a twinbill on Monday. He also had a hit in IUP’s 17-1 loss to ESU in game one of the doubleheader. In last Sunday’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Shippensburg, Tice was 2-for-3 with three walks while scoring a run. He was the lone IUP player with more than one hit on the day.

Craig Lepre (North Penn) had two hits in the University of Albany’s 9-7 win over UMBC in the second game of a twinbill on Saturday. In game one of Saturday's twinbill, a 3-2 loss to UMBC, he had an RBI double. On Sunday, Lepre launched a two-out, two-run double into the right field gap to plate the tying and winning runs in Albany's 5-4 win over UMBC.

Jim Smith (North Penn) had a hit and an RBI in Saint Peter’s 5-4 loss to Villanova on Saturday. Frank Morris (Harry S Truman) allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work. He was not involved in the decision.

Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) pitched two innings of scoreless relief in Georgetown’s 3-2 loss to Saint Joe’s on Friday, striking out six. In his last 7.1 innings on the mound, Hollenbeck has 13 strikeouts.

Pinch hitter Dan Callahan (Council Rock South) delivered a pinch hit single in the ninth inning of La Salle’s 8-1 loss to Hartford on Sunday.

Pat Campion (Norristown) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in Chestnut Hill’s 9-0 win over Lincoln on Tuesday. In Chestnut Hill’s 5-4 win over Lincoln in the second half of the twinbill, freshman Grant Opalisky (Hatboro-Horsham) delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning that gave the Griffins a lead they would not lose.

Freshman Trevor Dalton (Pennridge) improved to 2-0 after earning the win in Delaware Valley’s 4-0 win over Geneva College on Friday in Fort Pierce, Fla. The Pennridge grad allowed five hits while walking one and striking out one in the complete game win. Brandon Bell (Norristown) hit a two-run single in the sixth inning. Kyle Wenger (Souderton) laid down a sacrifice bunt to set up Bell’s big hit. Pete O’Hara (Council Rock North) singled and scored in the inning. In Thursday’s 9-5 win over Hilbert College, O’Hara was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Wenger was 2-for-5, which included a two-run triple.

Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base in Eastern University’s 6-2 loss to Muhlenberg in Myrtle Beach last Wednesday. In last Tuesday’s 19-3 loss to York, Check was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) went 3-for-4 in Cairn University’s 7-2 loss to Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday. He also took the mound for five innings, facing 27 batters and allowing five hits. Josh Freed (Souderton) saw three innings of work on the mound, facing 12 batters and allowing just one hit. In Cairn’s 10-6 win over Beloit College, Freed threw two innings in relief, striking out four and allowing just one hit.

Trey Guaglionona (Abington) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in Penn State Abington’s 7-2 loss to SUNY Canton on Thursday in Winter Haven, Fla. In Tuesday’s 15-0 loss to SUNY Cortland, he accounted for one of his team’s three hits.

Ryan Pater (Central Bucks East) had a three-run triple in the sixth inning and contributed four RBIs in St. Joe’s 15-0 win over Georgetown on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-2 win over Georgetown in 10 innings, Pater also contributed a triple and RBI.

David Pine (Council Rock North) reached base three times on a single and two walks in Millersville’s 16-1 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday. He also had a pair of RBIs.

Brady West (North Penn) singled, stole second and scored a run in Bloomsburg’s 5-2 loss to Tusculum last Sunday. In Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Mercyhurst, West had one of his team’s five hits.

Junior Eric Heaney (Hatboro-Horsham) was 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 12-2 win over Stevenson on Friday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
East Stroudsburg junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region first team for the second straight season. The PW grad led ESU (28-1) to the top seed in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. He has led the Warriors to their second PSAC championship in three years and third straight NCAA Tournament appearance as part of a record-setting season for ESU, which is ranked No. 2 in Division II and was the final undefeated team in Division II this season. He leads ESU with 16.9 points per game and averages 3.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He set a school record this year with 77 three-pointers. Grant averaged 19.3 points in 16 divisional games as ESU won its second straight PSAC East regular season title. He was ESU’s leading scorer in 12 PSAC East games and scored 20-plus in 10 games, including a career-high 31 in a 107-94 win at West Chester. He scored 19 points in ESU’s 92-80 win over West Chester in the PSAC championship game last Sunday. Grant advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration. He was an All-America honorable mention selection as a sophomore by both Daktronics and the Division II Bulletin. Grant is ESU’s first two-time All-Region selection since Jonathan Roberts (1988-90) and fourth in school history. He entered the NCAA Atlantic Regional with 1,416 career points, sixth in school history and fourth most among active DII juniors. He also ranks second at ESU with 199 career three-pointers, fifth with 331 free throws made and sixth with 139 steals. ESU is 70-20 in Grant’s three seasons, including a school record 28 wins this year, surpassing the standard set by the 2009-10 team that finished 24-6.
Grant scored 29 points to lead five double-figure scorers in No. 2-ranked East Stroudsburg’s 99-98 win over Livingstone in the first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional on Saturday night at Koehler Fieldhouse. ESU (29-1), the Atlantic Region’s No. 1 seed and regional host for the first time in program history, advanced to face No. 5 seed Gannon.

For the fourth time this season, the Philadelphia Big 5 honored Temple senior guard Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) as the Big 5 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Pepper averaged 23 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Owls. For his efforts, Pepper also was named the Under Armour OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week. He netted a game-high 26 points, grabbed six boards and handed out four assists in an overtime victory versus UCF on Senior Day. Six of his points came in the overtime period to help Temple seal the win. Later in the week at USF, he scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the final eight minutes to help the Owls stage a comeback and win by one point. He also had a game-best eight rebounds. The USF contest marked Pepper’s 12th 20-plus point performance of the season. He leads the team and ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with a 17.6 scoring average.
Pepper scored 14 points, including two three-pointers, in Temple’s 94-90 double overtime loss to UCF in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday. Pepper made at least one shot from long range in all 31 games this season, becoming the first player in program history to make a three-pointer in each game of the season.  

McDaniel sophomore Wesley Brooks (North Penn) was named to the 2013-14 Centennial Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll. To be nominated for the honor roll, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, be of sophomore standing or higher and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.40.

Senior Nick Christian (Bensalem) had eight rebounds and four assists in Philadelphia University’s 66-65 loss to Franklin Pierce in an opening round game of the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament on Saturday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North)
scored 10 points in American University’s 68-55 loss to Army in the Patriot League semifinals on Monday night.

Princeton sophomore Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) earned honorable mention All-Ivy League recognition. It is her first career conference accolade. Guided by her league-leading 53.7 field goal percentage, Wheatley averaged 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in 28 starts. She also recorded her first career double-double at Rutgers in the Tigers’ season opener on Nov. 10 and established a new career high with 18 points at Columbia on Feb. 7 to highlight her year.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Craig Hunsberger (Pennridge)
scored a pair of goals in Elizabethtown’s 19-8 loss to defending national champion Stevenson on Wednesday.

Joe Palo (Hatboro-Horsham) was credited with three ground balls and won 5-of-11 face-offs in Eastern University’s’ 11-9 win over Colorado College on Friday. In last Saturday’s 16-9 win over Ferrum College, Palo was credited with five ground balls and was 7-of-15 on face-offs. Teammate Tyler Gehlhaus (Hatboro-Horsham) also had three ground balls.

Freshman Austin Marshall (Neshaminy) earned his first win in goal, posting 10 saves after entering the game at halftime in No. 6 Cabrini’s 20-11 win over Nazareth on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 17-5 win over No. 19 Gettysburg, junior Anthony Greco (Abington) was credited with four ground balls.

Senior faceoff specialist Shawn Caven (Pennsbury) had two goals, six ground balls and was 14-for-18 on faceofffs in Ursinus College’s 14-7 win over Wheaton on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 18-11 loss to Montclair State, Caven was 4-for-8 on faceoffs.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Junior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) had three ground balls and a caused turnover in Holy Family’s 22-2 loss to nationally-ranked LIU Post on Saturday.

Junior Garrie Grenfel (North Penn) had two goals and two assists in Shippensburg’s 18-5 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Friday. In last Sunday’s 8-6 win over Merrimack, Grenfel contributed a goal and an assist, and sophomore Ally Frymoyer (Upper Merion) made four saves to pick up her second victory of the season in goal. She limited the Warriors to just 1-for-5 on free position attempts.

Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) scored four goals in No. 5 Lock Haven’s 27-8 win over Findlay last Sunday.

Senior Amy Powell (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed a goal in Gwynedd Mercey’s 20-7 loss to Lycoming on Saturday. Goalie Megan Rose (Pennridge) recorded five saves. In Gwynedd’s 17-15 win over King’s on Wednesday, Rose recorded five saves, including four clutch saves in the final 12 minutes of the contest.

Junior Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) had four goals and Jaime Damirgian (Council Rock South) added a pair of goals in Millersville’s 20-6 win over Valkyries on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 25-2 win over Alderson-Broaddus, Vogel led the Marauders with five goals while Damirgian added four goals. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Crouthamel (Souderton) blanked the Battlers in 30 minutes of action for her second victory in as many tries.

Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) had a goal and an assist in Bloomsburg’s 10-7 loss to 14th-ranked Pfeiffer University on Saturday.

SOFTBALL
Sophomore third baseman Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) had three putouts and seven assists in the field in Rhode Island’s doubleheader sweep of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday. Klepchick has not made a miscue in the field this year. In URI’s 6-0 loss to UMBC on Tuesday, Klepchick had one of her team’s three hits.

Freshman Michelle Holweger (North Penn) hit her first collegiate home run in Lock Haven’s 4-2 loss to Winston-Salem on Saturday. Her solo shot tied the game 2-2. In Sunday’s 7-2 loss to No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan, Holweger was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Highlighting the day was her second home run of the season. In Lock Haven’s 7-3 loss to Fairmont State on Sunday, Chelsea Edwards (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Holweger leads Lock Haven at the plate with a .409 batting average (18-for-44). She has nine RBIs and two home runs.

Alexis Deal (Council Rock South) had an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth inning of Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-2 loss to Widener on Saturday.

Junior Liz Parkins (Souderton) threw her second complete game of the season in No. 19 Shippensburg’s 6-1 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday in the annual West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. The Souderton grad allowed a run on five hits while striking out six. She also was 2-for-4 at the plate. In last Sunday’s 4-1 win over Stonehill, Parkins earned the win, allowing one run on seven hits in five innings. She also gave herself some run support during a three-run third, driving in a pair of runs with a double off the right field wall.

Holy Family senior Rachael Alligood (Harry S Truman) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 9. It is the first time she has received this honor in her career. Alligood went 3-0 in the circle during Holy Family’s 10-game non-conference schedule in Florida. She made two starts, and in 17.1 innings of work allowed only six runs (five unearned) off 15 hits. Alligood struck out eight and issued only three walks. Against the College of Saint Rose, Alligood went the distance as she recorded the five-inning complete game as the Tigers defeated the Golden Knights 17-1. She scattered four hits and allowed an unearned run while striking out a pair of batters. Alligood completed the team’s trip to Florida with an earned run average of 2.02.

Freshman outfielder Bridget Hunt (Harry S Truman) finished the day 3-for-5 in Binghamton’s doubleheader losses to Colgate and Akron in the opening day of the Cherry Blossom Classic on Friday.

Erica Reis (Central Bucks East) singled home Suzanne Swanicke (Pennsbury) in La Salle’s 5-1 win over Youngstown State on Saturday.

Ali Vavala (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-3 with a run scored while teammate Jessica Schuck (Council Rock South) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI in West Chester’s 10-0 win over New York Tech in six innings on the first day at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., on Friday. Megan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and Erin Quense (Neshaminy) and Laura Altenberger (Neshaminy) each added a hit and scored a run.

Mary Ward (North Penn) delivered a RBI single, stole a base and scored a run in IUP’s 6-5 win in extra innings over Fairmont State on Saturday in the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. The win upped IUP’s record to 4-0 in the tournament. In IUP’s 3-1 win over Shepherd, Emily Hofmann (Pennridge) earned the win on the mound, working four innings and giving up five walks and two hits with two strikeouts. In Friday’s 8-2 win over Charlestown, Ward blasted her team’s second homer of the game in the fifth inning. In IUP’s 8-6 win over West Virginia State, Hofmann earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief that was highlighted by a one-two-three seventh that included a strikeout.

Danielle DiFilippo (Hatboro-Horsham) and Gabbiie Berry (Norristown) each had three hits in Millersville’s 14-1 win over Malone at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday. One of DiFilippo’s hits was a double. Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Heather Lutz (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Maria Spinosa (Hatboro-Horsham) was 1-for-2 with one run and two RBIs. In Saturday’s 6-5 win over Chowan, DiFilippo was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Berry delivered a double and RBI. Lutz and Kulp both had a hit and run scored. In Millersville’s 9-1 win over Bowie State on Saturday, DiFilippo was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored while Spinosa had two hits, one RBI and one run. Berry and Kulp (RBI) each contributed a hit. In Sunday’s 2-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan, Kulp was 2-for-3 with an RBI double while Lutz was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. In Thursday’s 8-0 win over Franklin Pierce, Berry was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Spinosa had two hits and an RBI. Kulp contributed a double, run and RBI while Lutz had a double and RBI.

Freshman Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) earned the win in Fordham’s 5-1 win over Georgia State on Saturday. The Neshaminy grad allowed eight hits and one run in eight innings of work, walking one and striking out two. In last Sunday’s 8-7 win over Southern Illinois, Quense earned the win in relief, allowing three hits and two runs (both unearned) while walking one and striking out three.

Sophomore Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) was 1-for-3 with an RBI in Robert Morris University’s 5-1 win over Delaware on Saturday.

Lehigh sophomore Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending March 9. Decker batted .318 in nine games last week, going 7-for-22 at the plate with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. She also drew seven walks to finish with an impressive .483 on-base percentage. Decker’s first inning RBI single brought home the winning run in a 3-0 shutout of a San Diego State team that participated in the NCAA Regional Tournament last year and received votes in the national polls this year. The reigning Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in a 4-2 win over Saint Mary’s. She belted her first home run of the season and 10th of her career in a 3-2 extra-inning loss to Loyola Marymount. In that game, Decker’s two-run first-inning blast was the only offense against LMU ace Sydney Gouveia, who is now 12-1 with a 0.60 ERA this season. Decker’s home run accounted for two of the just seven earned runs Gouveia has allowed this season. In 14 games this season, Decker has posted a .306 batting average, and she tops the Mountain Hawks with nine RBIs. She also has drawn 11 walks for a .468 on-base percentage.

Junior Ellen Goldstein (Central Bucks West) delivered an RBI single in Ursinus College’s 8-0 win over Mount Aloysius on Monday at the Snowbird Classic in Myrtle Beach.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Towson University senior diver Alex Cohen (Abington) closed his record-setting career on Tuesday as part of the NCAA Zone A Diving regional held on the campus of Virginia Tech. Competing in the one-meter event for the final time as a collegiate diver, Cohen scored 241.00 points in the event to place 32nd. On Monday, Cohen, the Towson school record holder in the event, finished 35th in the three-meter diving event with 240.65 points.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Towson University sophomore Natalee Szopo (Upper Moreland) placed 27th in the three-meter diving event at the NCAA Zone A Diving Regional on Tuesday on the campus of Virginia Tech. On Monday, Szopo posted a score of 224.70 in the preliminaries of the one-meter diving event and finished 17th overall with 439.35 points.

Rider freshman Kelly Toner (Upper Dublin) finished 46th with a score of 184.95 on the one-meter board at the NCAA Zone A meet hosted by Virginia Tech. She finished 46th on the three-meter board with a score of 175.60.

Pitt freshman Rachel Saunders (Central Bucks West) finished 35th overall in the women’s three-meter event at the NCAA Zone A qualifying meet on Friday at Virginia Tech. In the one-meter event, Saunders placed 13th with a final mark of 471.45.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Zakiyyah Richardson (Pennsbury) competed in the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University. It is her second straight nationals appearance. She finished 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76, missing the finals by just 0.04 seconds.

WRESTLING
Ursinus junior 157-pounder Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) finished his run at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday by finishing eighth, earning All-American status. After advancing to the consolation quarterfinals on Friday, he dropped his opening match to Jon Garrison of Mount Union 4-2 in overtime, before falling in the seventh place match by a 5-1 score to Mark Savenok of Wheaton (Ill.). Jasinski finished the year with a record of 36-8, the most wins by a 157 pounder in a season in school and conference history.
Jasinski also was honored for his excellence off of the mat with his selection as a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. To be eligible for the individual award, a student-athlete must carry a GPA of at least 3.20 (cumulative or last academic year) and meet one of the three criteria: qualify for the NCAA Championships, place in top six at the NCAA qualifier or win more than 66 percent of matches and wrestle in 50 percent of scheduled dates.
