BASEBALL
Freshman Jordan Hofferman (Cheltenham) allowed three hits and one run in two innings of relief in Chestnut Hill’s 14-5 loss to Kutztown on Sunday. Junior Justin Wiercinski (Hatboro-Horsham) absorbed the loss on the mound. Mike Knipe (Pennridge) and Eric Blood (Pennridge) both contributed singles for Chestnut Hill. James Quigley (Bensalem) had a hit and scored a run for Kutztown. On Wednesday, Knipe had a single and two runs scored in Chestnut Hill’s 8-1 win over Bloomsburg. Eric Ebert (Council Rock North) had two of Bloomsburg’s four hits in the loss.
Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) drove in a career-high six runs in LaSalle’s 14-7 win over Niagara on Sunday. Gyles went 2-for-5 and singled home a pair of runs to start the Explorers’ big offensive day in the first inning. Chris Umstead (Pennridge) delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning. In Saturday’s 20-11 loss to Pittsburgh, Eric Kammler (Pennridge) led the Explorers with two runs scored and four hits, including two infield singles and a two-run double. Gyles had three hits, two RBIs and one run scored. In Friday’s 7-5 loss to Youngstown, starter Kevin Christy (North Penn) allowed five hits, two runs, no walks and fanned five in five strong innings before being touched for four runs in the sixth.  Umstead contributed a pinch single. In Wednesday’s 4-2 win at Saint Peter’s, Gyles was 2-for-5.
Tony Donofry (Council Rock North) contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs in Bloomsburg’s 12-5 loss to West Chester on Saturday. Teammate Eric Ebert (Council Rock South) had a hit and run scored. On Friday, Donofry contributed an RBI double in Bloomsburg’s 10-7 loss to West Chester. Ebert had an RBI single.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Jim Connolly (Souderton) contributed 10 points and four assists in Philadelphia University’s 81-69 loss to second-seeded Bentley College in the NCAA East Region championship game on Tuesday.  Connolly was named to the NCAA East Region All-Tournament Team. Philly U closed out its season with a 27-8 record overall (16-1 CACC). This was the Rams’ first Sweet 16 appearance in 15 years.
Junior Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) contributed 11 points, five rebounds and four assists in Temple’s 78-65 upset at the hands of Cornell in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Owls, who closed out the season with a 29-6 record.
Thomas Young (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was held to just four points but had seven assists in IUP’s 84-72 victory over 10th ranked West Liberty in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region championship game on Tuesday. In three regional contests, Young averaged 15.3 points and five assists. The region title was the fifth for IUP, which earned a trip to the Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass., March 24-27. The Crimson Hawks, ranked second in the nation, extended their winning streak to 13.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Mike Wilus (North Penn) contributed a goal, a ground ball and caused a turnover in the University of Massachusett's 17-3 win over Providence on Tuesday. UMass, ranked as high as #13, is ranked 19th in the latest national poll.
Freshman Mike Vandegrift (Abington) contributed a pair of goals in Widener’s 15-12 loss to Wesley on Saturday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Sophomore Kelly McKay (Pennridge) scored the game-winning goal in Chestnut Hill’s 14-13 win over Mercy College on Friday. She finished the game with the hat trick. Michelle Wiater (Pennridge) also contributed a goal.
Freshman Lauren McDermott (North Penn) scored a pair of goals in LaSalle’s 11-10 overtime loss to LeMoyne on Saturday. Sophomore Allison Herman (North Penn) scored her first goal of the season. In Wednesday’s 13-11 win over Villanova, McDermott led the Explorers with four goals and two assists. As a result of the win, the Explorers improved to 4-3 on the season and have already matched last year’s win total. The loss was the first of the season for Villanova.
Junior Karen Schnurr (Central Bucks South) scored a pair of goals in Shippensburg’s 18-4 loss to fourth-ranked Limestone on Saturday. Senior Gayle Kuntzmann (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed an assist and two caused turnovers. In Wednesday’s 12-5 win over Millersville, Schnurr scored four goals while Kuntzmann added a single goal.
Freshman Maggie Canavan (Springfield) scored a goal in Bloomsburg’s 15-7 win over Malloy on Saturday.  In Wednesday’s 13-5 win over East Stroudsburg, Canavan contributed a pair of goals. For ESU, Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) and freshman Ali Green (North Penn) each scored goals.
Junior Jamie Wesztergom (Springfield) tied her career-high with four goals, including three straight to start an 8-0 run in the beginning of the second half, in East Stroudsburg’s 17-6 win over Philadelphia University on Saturday. Junior Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) added a pair of goals while freshman Taylor Lucas (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist for the Warriors, who improved to 3-1.
Allison Berger (Springfield) scored four goals in Lock Haven’s 18-6 win over 10th ranked Gannon Wednesday. Kate Smyth (Pennsbury) added two goals for the Lady Eagles, who are ranked second.
SOFTBALL
Nicole Koren (William Tennent) roped a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to lead Virginia to a 2-1 upset of second-ranked Arizona on Sunday at the Judi Garman Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. Arizona (23-5) outhit the Cavaliers 7-1. It was the third win for the Cavaliers over a ranked team this season, including its second over a top five opponent. Virginia is 14-12 on the season.
Erin Holloway (Souderton) allowed just two hits and struck out nine in IUP’s 8-0 win over Glenville State on Sunday to improve to 9-0 on the season. The shutout was the fourth of the season for Holloway. Dee Eppinger (North Penn) contributed a double. IUP is 15-2 on the season.  On Friday, Holloway and IUP escaped with an 8-7 win over Alderson-Broaddus. Eppinger contributed a hit. In Friday’s nightcap, Holloway allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out eight in IUP’s 12-5 win over West Liberty.
Meredith Morris (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-3 with an RBI in Lock Haven’s 5-2 win over Ohio Valley on Friday.
Samantha Schoell (North Penn) hit a two-out RBI single in the second inning of Temple’s 2-1 loss to Drexel on Sunday. The Owls won the second game of the twin bill 2-0.
Pam DelPizzo (Central Bucks South) belted a grand slam in Elon’s 18-2 five-inning win over Western Carolina last Sunday. She also a solo home run in Elon’s 13-1 win over Western Carolina last Saturday. DelPizzo contributed an RBI single in Elon’s 7-1 win over Eastern Carolina.
Second baseman Jess Hirschbuhl (Central Bucks South) contributed an RBI single in Hofstra’s 2-1 win over No. 18 Louisville last Saturday. With the win, the Pride improved to 10-1 on the season. Hirschbuhl started a two-out rally with a single in Hofstra’s 4-3 eight-inning loss to fifth-ranked Michigan State.
Senior Lisamarie Ramagli (Neshaminy) slammed a two-run home run in Shippensburg’s 4-3 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday.
Freshman Tegan Wendell (Abington) was 2-for-4 in East Stroudsburg’s 10-7 win over Davis & Elkins on Sunday. In ESU’s 6-2 win over Seton Hall later in the day, sophomore Rachel Gieringer (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 with a double and home run. Wendell contributed an RBI double. ESU (10-13) boasts a four-game winning streak. On Saturday, Gieringer was 2-for-3 with an RBI double in ESU’s 10-5 five-inning win over Wheeling Jesuit. Wendell also had a basehit. In Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Holy Family, Gieringer was 3-for-3 at the plate to lift her batting average to .358.
Beth Everist (North Penn) knocked in eight runs to help Mount St. Mary’s split a pair of games at the UMBC Softball Spring Classic on Saturday. Everist paced the Mount with two hits – a three-run home run and a solo homer, five RBIs and two runs scored in Mount St. Mary’s 15-7 win over Niagara. Courtney Zingle (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed a single and RBI in the Mount’s 11-8 loss to Lehigh in the nightcap. With her two home runs, Everist moved into eighth place with eight homers.
MEN’S TENNIS
Luv Sodha (Council Rock North) was part of the third flight doubles team that defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) 8-1 in Temple’s 7-0 win over Fordham on Sunday. He also won at fifth singles 6-2, 7-6. In Temple’s 7-0 win over St. Francis (N.Y.), Sodha’s third doubles team earned an 8-1 win. He also won at sixth singles 6-3.
Dan Lee (Abington) earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at sixth singles in The College of New Jersey’s 5-4 loss to #13 Kalamazoo on Sunday. He was part of the third flight doubles team that earned a 9-8 (7-2) win. Lee scored a 6-4, 6-2 win in sixth singles in TCNJ’s 5-4 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. He was also part of the third flight doubles team that earned an 8-0 win. In TCNJ’s 9-0 win over Muhlenburg on Wednesday, Lee earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at sixth singles. His third doubles team notched an 8-0 win.
Carson Richter (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of the second flight doubles team that earned an 8-3 win in Chestnut Hill’s 6-3 win over St. Thomas Aquinas college on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 6-1 loss to LaSalle, Richter took his match to a third set but fell 6-4, 1-6, 1-6.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Shippensburg’s Sean Stetler (Central Bucks South) won the 10,000 meter run in the Lynchburg College Invitational with a PSAC qualifying time of 32:22.80.
Shippensburg’s Alfred McHanley (Cheltenham) finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 20-11 ½ at the Lynchburg Invitational on Saturday. He finished seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 42-6 ½.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Shippensburg freshman Caitlin Stuetz (Cheltenham) won the 400 meter hurdles with a PSAC qualifying time of 1:05.67 at the Lynchburg College Invitational on Saturday. She also qualified in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.09. Laura Henzy (Neshaminy) earned a PSAC qualifying time in the 400m with a time of 58.54. Krysten Goetter (Hatboro-Horsham) qualified in shot put with a throw of 11.47 meters.
East Stroudsburg’s Kayla Littrell (William Tennent) finished in a tie for 17th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.99 at the Lynchburg Invitational. She was also part of the 4x400m relay that finished third with a time of 4:28.92.
