BASEBALL
Junior second baseman Billy Fleming (Council Rock South) singled and scored a run in West Virginia’s 9-5 win over Oklahoma on Saturday. The win gave the Mountaineers their second Big 12 series win of the season and improved their overall record to 19-16. In Friday’s 5-3 loss to Oklahoma, Fleming singled and drove in a run. In Thursday’s 7-0 win in Norman, Okla., Fleming had three hits, two RBIs and scored a run.
Brandon Martinez (North Penn) contributed four hits, three RBIs and four stolen bases in Kutztown’s doubleheader sweep of Lock Haven on Saturday. He brought his season stolen base total to 30, tying the Kutztown single season record set in 1983. For the weekend, Martinez batted .700 in four starts with seven hits, three RBIs and a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts. Teammate Warren Stimpson (Wissahickon) was 1-for-2 with a run scored in Kutztown’s 11-2 win in game two. In Friday’s 1-0 win over Kutztown in a doubleheader sweep, Martinez was 2-for-2 with a run scored. In Kutztown’s 3-1 win over No. 29 Millersville in Wednesday’s doubleheader split, Martinez was 2-for-2 and reached base on all three trips to the plate. He scored two runs and stole two bases for the third consecutive game. He is tied for fifth in KU history with 47. Ryan Clow (Central Bucks East) pitched three innings in Kutztown’s 3-2 loss in game two, allowing seven hits and one run in a no decision.
Tyler Coleman (Quakertown) and Robert Knox (Upper Moreland) each contributed a hit in West Chester’s 4-3 win over Shippensburg in Saturday’s doubleheader split. Knox also had an RBI. In Friday’s doubleheader sweep of Shippensburg, Coleman hit a ball up the middle that the shortstop dove and stopped but the throw home was high and not in time as the winning run crossed the plate in West Chester’s 4-3 win. In Thursday’s 15-6 win over Philadelphia University, Knox hit a two-run homer. He finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored to go along with three RBIs. In West Chester’s 7-4 win in eight innings over East Stroudsburg in Monday’s doubleheader split, Coleman was 2-for-4 with a two-run triple and a run scored while Knox was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, In Monday’s 8-5 loss to East Stroudsburg, Knox was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Senior John Burns (Neshaminy) went 3-for-5 with a home run and double in Gwynedd Mercy’s 6-5 win over Centenary on Friday night. In last Sunday’s 16-1 loss to Keystone, David Blount (Harry S Truman) contributed an RBI single to drive in his team’s only run.
Sophomore first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown) contributed a hit and two RBIs in Chestnut Hill’s 10-2 win over Nyack College in Saturday’s doubleheader split.
Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) hit a solo home run in Lock Haven’s 11-2 loss to Kutztown in game two of a twinbill Saturday. In Friday’s 4-2 loss to Kutztown in game one of Friday’s doubleheader, Henritzy was 3-for-4 at the plate. In Lock Haven’s 1-0 loss in game two of the doubleheader, Henritzy had a pair of hits, capping his day at the plate with a 5-for-7 (.714) performance.
Mike McLeod (Harry S Truman), who entered the game with two outs in the fifth inning,picked up his first win of the year in La Salle’s 6-3 win over VCU on Friday. He threw 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and one run.
Ben Hauser (Central Bucks East) was 1-for-3 in No. 10 Northampton’s 4-1 loss to No. 3 Cumberland on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 4-3 win over Camden County College, Matt Roberts (Quakertown) earned his first save, coming in with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning and striking out the Camden batter to end the game.
Tim Filer (Council Rock North) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in Lebanon Valley’s 9-2 win over Arcadia on Thursday.
Tom Kreiling (Neshaminy) was 2-for-4 and teammate Trey Guaglionona (Abington) scored a pair of runs in Penn State Abington’s 4-2 win in game one of a twinbill split with John Jay College on Saturday. In the Nittany Lions 6-0 win over Lancaster Bible in game two of a doubleheader sweep on Thursday, Kreiling was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Pete O’Hara (Council Rock North) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Delaware Valley’s 8-1 win over Manhattanville in game one of a doubleheader sweep Friday. In Del Val’s 1-0 win in game two, Kyle Wenger (Souderton) was 2-for-2 with three stolen bases. In Thursday’s 11-3 loss to Manhattanville, Wenger was 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Brandon Bell (Norristown) had a pair of hits and scored a run. In Wednesday’s 8-5 loss to FDU-Florham, Wenger was 4-for-5 with a three-run home run. O’Hara was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
Freshman Greg McDonough (Wissahickon) delivered a two-run triple in Widener’s 7-0 win over Neumann on Saturday.
Jesse Kohler (Upper Dublin) got the start on the mound in Case Western Reserve’s 9-7 loss to Oberlin on Thursday. He fanned four and allowed three runs in four innings of work in a nodecision.
Jim Smith (North Penn) had three hits in Saint Peter’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Quinnipiac on Saturday.
Dan Hinchcliff (North Penn) singled and drove in a run in Catholic University’s 8-2 win over Merchant Marine on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 14-3 loss to Frostburg, Hinchcliff had an RBI.
Craig Lepre (North Penn) was 2-for-4 in Albany’s 10-6 loss to UMBC in the series finale last Sunday.
Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) earned the win by going the final 1.2 innings without giving up a hit in Georgetown’s 4-3 win over Seton Hall in a BIG EAST contest on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Randy Frankenfield (Wissahickon) saw his strong performance wasted in York College’s 3-2 heartbreaking loss in 10 innings to Christopher Newport in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday. Frankenfield tossed nine innings but suffered a no-decision as his defense let him down in the ninth inning. The freshman hurler allowed a pair of hits and a run and appeared to be on his way to a win, but the tying run scored on an errant throw with two outs. In nine innings, Frankenfield allowed just five hits and one earned run while walking two and fanning four.
Elizabethtown wasted 10.1 shutout innings from Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) in Friday’s 4-1 loss in 11 innings to Widener. Davis allowed three runs in the 11th but only one was earned. In last Sunday’s 15-2 win over Albright, pinch hitter Ryan Schamp (Central Bucks West) singled in his only trip to the plate.
Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs score in Cairn University’s 11-1 win over Baptist Bible College in game one of a twinbill sweep Thursday. In Cairn’s 18-6 win in game two, Nieves-Markee was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs and five runs scored. Josh Freed (Souderton) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. In Wednesday’s 23-1 win over Valley Forge Christian College, Nieves-Markee earned the win, allowing five hits and one run in six innings while walking six and fanning 14. Freed was 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. In Cairn’s 16-12 loss to St. Joe’s College Monday, Nieves-Markee had two hits and scored a run while Freed had one hit, two RBIs and one run.
Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) was 4-for-5 with a double, home run, four RBIs and three runs scored in Moravian’s 12-1 win over Scranton in game two of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. His three-run home run in the fourth inning put Moravian on top 7-1. In Moravian’s 7-3 win in game one, Hanson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. In Wednesday’s 8-1 win over DeSales, senior second baseman Daniel Seitzinger (Central Bucks West) hit an RBI double for his 99th career hit. Hanson was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. In Monday’s 8-1 win over No. 6 Kean, Hanson singled and scored a run.
Tyler Orr (Neshaminy) singled and drove in a run in Eastern University’s 12-5 loss to DeSales University on Thursday. In Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Arcadia, Orr, batting in the two hole for the second game in a row, was 2-for-3 with a double, walk and RBI. Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) doubled and scored a run. In Monday’s 7-3 win over King’s, Orr, who walked three times, delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh to bring home the go-ahead run.
Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in IUP’s 3-2 win over Gannon in a doubleheader split on Saturday. In IUP’s 12-9 loss in game two, Tice was 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Freshman Brady West (North Penn) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in Bloomsburg’s 7-6 win in eight innings over East Stroudsburg in Saturday’s doubleheader split. In the Huskie’s 8-3 win in Friday’s split with East Stroudsburg, West was 1-for-3 with double and run scored. In Wednesday’s 5-2 win over Shippensburg in game one of a twinbill sweep, West was 1-for-2 with a run scored. In Bloomsburg’s 4-1 win in game two, West was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury College junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) tied for sixth place individually in a field of 87 golfers at the Jack Leaman Women’s Championship hosted by Amherst College on Saturday. The tournament was held at the Par 74 Hickory Ridge Country Club and Par 72 Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. Glatt led her team with scores of 81-79, and the Middlebury team came in fifth place out of the 15 teams participating.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Craig Hunsberger (Pennridge) scored a pair of goals in Elizabethtown’s 13-3 win over Alvernia on Thursday.
Shawn Caven (Pennsbury) was 10-of-19 on face-offs with six ground balls in Ursinus College’s 12-6 win over McDaniel on Saturday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Kelly Cross (Upper Dublin) was credited with two ground balls, one caused turnover and two draw controls in No. 1/2 Syracuse’s 18-10 win at Notre Dame on Saturday. With the win, the Orange claimed a share of the ACC regular season conference title with a 6-1 record.
Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) scored three goals while Aubrey Bossert (Wissahickon) added one goal, two ground balls and a caused turnover and Carley Ball (North Penn) added two goals, one ground ball and one caused turnover in Bloomsburg’s 15-9 win over East Stroudsburg on Thursday.
Freshman Alyssa Matthews (Pennsbury) scored a goal in Philadelphia University’s 20-5 win over Queens on Wednesday.
Jaime Damirgian (Council Rock South) contributed a goal, two ground balls and two draw controls in Millersville’s 18-9 loss to Seton Hill on Saturday. Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) added a goal. In Millersville’s 20-12 loss to Slippery Rock Friday, Vogel had four goals and two assists. Damirgian added a goal. In Tuesday’s 13-10 loss to Gannon, goalkeeper Kaitlin Crouthamel (Souderton) posted a career high .552 save percentage and tied a career best with 16 saves. Over the last seven games, Crouthamel has averaged 13.57 saves per game.
Kelsey Gumbert (Pennsbury) contributed an assist in West Chester’s come-from-behind 14-13 win over No. 7 IUP on Saturday. In Friday’s 17-6 win over Edinboro, Gumbert had a goal and an assist.
Sophomore Cortnee Daley (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a pair of goals in No. 18 Louisville’s 18-6 win over Rutgers on Saturday. The win clinched at least a share of the Cardinals’ first BIG EAST regular season title. In Thursday’s 12-7 win over UConn, Daley had two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalie Ally Frymoyer (Upper Merion) turned away 10 shots, her second highest save total in a game this season, in Shippensburg’s 16-4 loss to No. 8 Lock Haven on Saturday. In Friday’s 24-6 loss at No. 7 IUP, junior Garrie Grenfell (North Penn) scored a goal while Frymoyer recorded seven saves. In Tuesday’s 20-5 loss to defending PSAC-champion West Chester, Frymoyer was credited with eight saves.
Senior Amy Powell (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 15-5 loss to Marywood on Thursday. Goalie Megan Rose (Pennridge) had four stops.
Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) scored four goals in No. 8 Lock Haven’s 16-4 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. It was the team’s 11th straight win. In Friday’s 15-5 win over Gannon, Hamilton had a hat trick. In Tuesday’s 16-4 win over East Stroudsburg, Hamilton had a hat trick and Melinda Wojt (Souderton) helped lead the defense.
Senior defender Brittany Hanrahan (North Penn) was credited with five ground balls and two caused turnovers in St. Joe’s 9-4 loss to La Salle on Friday.
SOFTBALL
Susquehanna freshman third baseman Lauren Creamer (Neshaminy) was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week and also was named Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusader for the week ending April 13. The Neshaminy grad finished the week hitting .455 with three home runs, including a walk-off grand slam. She tallied 10 hits, including two doubles, drove in 10 runs, had a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .478 on-base percentage and had just three strikeouts as SU went 6-2 for the week. Creamer has started 19 of the 20 games in which she has appeared this season and leads the team with four home runs, which is second in the Landmark. The freshman is batting .327 with 11 runs, 17 hits, six doubles and a .673 slugging percentage.
Morgan Lewis (Council Rock North) tossed a complete game, allowing four runs on six hits with 11 strikeouts in Susquehanna’s 6-4 win over Juniata on Saturday. She had a shutout until the seventh inning.
Freshman Bridget Hunt (Harry S Truman) was 2-for-3 in Binghamton’s 9-8 win over Hartford on Friday. In Thursday’s 6-5 win over Niagara, Hunt was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. In Monday’s 12-11 win over UMass Lowell in game two of a twinbill, Hunt had a home run with three RBIs and a run scored. In a 6-4 loss to UMass Lowell in game one, Hunt was 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored.
Sophomore MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro-Horsham) hit her third home run of the season – a two-run shot – in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-3 win over Keystone in game two of a doubleheader on Monday.
Junior second baseman Julie Wambold (Hatboro-Horsham) made two diving plays with the game-ending run on second base, allowing Syracuse to extend Saturday’s 7-1 loss to nationally-ranked No. 9/8 Florida State for the full seven innings. In Syracuse’s 13-12 win over Boston College in game two of a twinbill split Saturday, Wambold was 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and three runs scored.
Sophomore Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) doubled, singled and scored a run in Rhode Island’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of George Mason Friday. In Thursday’s twinbill split with Fairfield, Klepchick had a hit in both ends of the doubleheader.
Ellen Goldstein (Central Bucks West) singled and scored a run in Ursinus College’s 6-4 loss to Haverford on Thursday. In last Sunday’s 4-3 loss in eight innings to Moravian, Goldstein contributed an RBI single.
Gabbie Berry (Norristown) was 2-for-3 with a double in Millersville’s 3-0 loss to East Stroudsburg in game two of a doubleheader Saturday. In a 1-0 loss in game one, Heather Lutz (Hatboro-Horsham) doubled and walked and is still second in the PSAC in two-baggers with 16. In Millersville’s 1-0 win over West Chester in Friday’s doubleheader sweep, Danielle DiFillipo (Hatboro-Horsham) doubled and drove in the game’s only run. In Millersville’s 4-0 win in game two, DiFilippo was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Maria Spinosa (Hatboro-Horsham) was 1-for-3 with a run scored. It is Millersville’s first twinbill sweep of West Chester since April 23, 2002. In Millersville’s 5-3 win over Kutztown in game two of a doubleheader sweep on Thursday, Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) was 2-for-3 with a solo home run. DiFilippo was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored while Berry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Lutz contributed a double. In Millersville’s 2-0 win in game one, DiFilippo was 3-for-3 with a double while Kulp was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. In Millersville’s 10-2 win in game two of Monday’s twinbill sweep of Goldey-Beacom, Lutz was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored while Kulp was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI and Spinosa was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. DiFilippo and Berry (RBI) both contributed a double and run scored. In Millersville’s 2-0 win in game one, DiFilppo was 3-for-3 with a double, and Kulp was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Freshman Michelle Holweger (North Penn) was 2-for-4 in Lock Haven’s 5-2 win over Bloomsburg in Friday’s doubleheader split. In Monday’s 5-2 win over East Stroudsburg in a doubleheader sweep, Holweger drove in a run. In Lock Haven’s 3-2 win in game two, Chelsea Edwards (Hatboro-Horsham) doubled to left, driving in Holweger (2-for-4). In last Sunday’s 4-1 win over West Chester, Holweger had three hits.
Kelly Hendrickson (William Tennent) was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Cairn University’s 9-0 win over Cedar Crest on Friday. Tiffany Gower (North Penn) earned her sixth win this season, striking out four and allowing only one hit. In Cairn’s 8-0 win in game two, Hendrickson was 3-for-4 and scored once. In Monday’s 12-2 win over Trinity University, Hendrickson earned her first win and also had four RBIs, including a three-run triple. She also earned the win in Cairn’s 7-4 win in game two of the twinbill with Trinity, allowing five hits and four runs (two earned) while walking one and fanning eight.
Freshman Ally Horvath (Central Bucks South) tossed her third straight complete game and improved to 4-0 after notching the win in Widener’s 9-4 win over Hood on Thursday. The CB South grad allowed four runs and seven hits over seven innings.
Sophomore catcher Mollie Burrell (Souderton) drove in the lone run with a sacrifice fly in Philadelphia University’s 16-1 loss to Holy Family in Thursday’s doubleheader split. In last Sunday’s split with Molloy, Burrell delivered an RBI single.
Sophomore Maggie Shaffer (Hatboro-Horsham) threw a one-hitter in the first game of Guilford College’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Bridgewater College on Wednesday. Shaffer (11-6) held the Eagles without a hit for the first 4.1 innings, earning her eighth complete game victory of the season as Guilford notched a 4-0 win. Bridgewater starting pitcher Brianna Cox hit a single to left in the top of the fifth inning for the only hit Shaffer gave up in her start. Allowing four base runners for the entire outing, the sophomore pitcher struck out three batters over seven innings. Last Sunday, Shaffer collected her seventh complete game win of the season as the Quakers earned a 3-1 win over Emory & Henry College in game one of a twinbill. She allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out four batters over seven innings. Shaffer stranded seven runners on base throughout the game and fought back to retire the Wasps after allowing two runners on base with one out in the third and seventh innings. With two runners in scoring position and one out in the seventh inning, Shaffer induced a game-ending double play to seal the win.
Senior Rachael Alligood (Harry S Truman) tossed her first career no-hitter in Holy Family’s 2-0 win over Chestnut Hill last Sunday. The Truman grad, who improved to 7-2 on the season, faced 22 batters with her only blemish being a first inning walk to the leadoff hitter. Alligood forced 10 groundouts and six fly outs to go along with five strikeouts. She also lowered her earned run average to 2.60 on the year. In Holy Family’s 16-1 win in Thursday’s split with Philadelphia University, junior Kelsi Bunda (Pennsbury) was 4-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and a team-high five RBIs.
Rae Holden (Abington) was 2-for-3 in East Stroudsburg’s 3-0 win over Millersville in game two of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
Freshman Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) combined with teammate Rachel Gillen to hold Saint Louis to just two hits over seven innings in Fordham’s 2-0 win on Thursday. Quense started off the game by holding the Billikens to just two hits over three innings.
Freshman Christina Bascara (Pennsbury) was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored in La Salle’s 8-2 win over Rhode Island on Saturday. In Friday’s 9-4 loss to Massachusetts, Erica Reis (Central Bucks East) was 1-for-2 with an RBI. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over UMass, Bascara was 2-for-2 with a triple and run scored. She also reached base twice after being hit by pitches.
Freshman Brook Labs (Pennridge) was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, three RBIs and three runs scored in Marywood’s 10-0 win in five innings over Baptist Bible College in game two of a doubleheader sweep Monday. The home run was her second of the year. In Marywood’s 10-0 win in game one in five innings, Labs was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Megan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) knocked in two runs in an eight-run fourth inning that ended a 17-inning scoreless streak and propelled West Chester to a doubleheader split with Shippensburg, winning the opener 10-1 in five innings to capture three out of four contests from the Raiders this season. Kelly delivered a two-run double and finished the game 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Laura Altenberger (Neshaminy) was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Erin Quense (Neshaminy) was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and Kim Begley (Abington) was 1-for-3 with an RBI. In an 8-1 defeat in the nightcap, Ali Vavala (Central Bucks East) singled and drove in her team’s only run. In West Chester’s 7-4 win in eight innings in Monday’s doubleheader sweep of Mansfield, Quense’s two-run single in the eighth was the game winner. Altenberger and Jessica Schuck (Council Rock South) each contributed a hit. In West Chester’s 6-2 win in game two, Quense hit her fifth home run of the season – a two-run shot. Schuck was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Kelly scored two runs.
Mary Ward (North Penn) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs in IUP’s 10-1 win over Clarion in game two of a doubleheader sweep on Friday. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Gannon in game one of a twinbill sweep Thursday, Ward delivered an RBI single. In IUP’s 11-3 win in Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep of Edinboro, Ward contributed a home run, her fourth of the year, and had four RBIs. In Sunday’s 9-0 win in IUP’s twinbill sweep of Edinboro, Ward went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
University of Connecticut sophomore Valerie Sadowl (Hatboro-Horsham) was featured in an article on the UConn web site. The standout second baseman leads the Huskies in nearly every batting category. She is batting .345 so far this season, the best on the team and the 11th best in the American Athletic Conference. She has been honored twice on the American Honor Roll in weekly conference awards this season in recognition of her achievements on the diamond. Sadowl’s success in the batter’s box this season has been a big improvement on a freshman season in which she finished with five runs, nine hits, seven runs batted in and one home run. Sadowl has far exceeded those numbers this season, having already scored 15 runs, racked up 32 hits and accounted for 15 RBIs. Her six homers are the most by a Husky this season. The sophomore attributes the turnaround to her hard work in the offseason, which helped her deconstruct the mechanics of her swing and provided more looks at a number of pitchers. “I played over the summer which gave me more live pitching before coming back for this season,” she said. “I was also able to watch film of myself hitting over the summer and winter, which helps a lot.”
Freshman Dominique Pinto (Council Rock North) hit a walk-off line drive single up the middle to score teammate Valerie Sadowl, propelling UConn to a 5-4 win over Temple in game one of a twinbill Friday. Sadowl, who singled earlier in the inning, also drove in a run and scored a pair.
Freshman Ashleigh Sharp (Upper Dublin) singled and scored a run in Chestnut Hill’s 2-1 loss to Concordia on Saturday.
Liz Parkins (Souderton) recorded her first shutout of the season in Shippensburg’s 1-0 win in nine innings over Kutztown in the first game of a doubleheader sweep on Monday. The complete game nine-inning win matches the longest of her career. The junior hurler allowed five hits and did not walk a batter, striking out a season-high eight in a 107-pitch performance. She did not allow a hit after the fifth inning.
Ashley Alden (William Tennent) was 1-for-2 with two runs scored in Saint Joseph’s 7-5 win in game two of a doubleheader sweep of George Washington on Saturday. In the Hawks’ 11-0 win in game one, Alden was 1-for-1 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Sophomore Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) had two of her team’s three hits and drove in the only run in Robert Morris University’s 2-1 loss to Central Connecticut State on Friday. In last Sunday’s doubleheader split with Sacred Heart, Stocks had a hit and scored a run in each game.
Sophomore Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) drilled her sixth home run of the season in Lehigh’s 5-1 win over Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday.
D’Anna Devine (Pennsbury) had a single in a four-run fourth inning in the University of South Florida’s 4-2 win over Houston on Friday.
Danielle Jones (Harry S Truman) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in Penn State Abington’s 5-4 win over Penn State Berks in game one of a twinbill Friday. In Monday’s doubleheader split with Lancaster Bible, Jones went 4-for-7 with an RBI and scored three runs. Emily Wrenn (Hatboro-Horsham) earned the win in the Nittany Lions 7-4 victory in the nightcap, throwing seven innings and allowing eight hits and four runs (three earned) while walking one and striking out none.
MEN’S SWIMMING
La Salle senior Dave Derr (Upper Dublin) was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Men’s Swimming & Diving Academic All-Area team in voting conducted by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Derr broke La Salle’s 200-yard backstroke record on the final day of the Atlantic 10 Championships. He clocked a 1:47.76 in the event, placing first in the consolation final and ninth overall. His top finish of the championships came in the 100-yard backstroke where he finished sixth with a personal best 49.62. The Upper Dublin grad also participated in three relay teams at the A-10 Championships. He swam the opening leg of the 400-yard medley relay team (3:19.80) and 200-yard medley relay team (1:31.36) that came in fifth and sixth respectively. Derr also anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:23.44) that placed sixth. Derr, who also was named an Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference performer, carries a 3.54 GPA as an accounting/MBA major.

Steven Ly (Bensalem) was a winner at fourth singles (6-0, 6-1) and second doubles (8-1) in Penn State Abington’s 9-0 win over Keuka on Friday.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Peter Brzezinski (Hatboro-Horsham) earned honor roll accolades from the Colonial States Athletic Conference for the week ending April 13. He went 3-0 at number one singles while not dropping a set for the Griffins. He was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Rosemont and followed that with a 6-1, 6-2 win in his match against Neumann’s Bryan Bodine. He closed the week with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Marywood’s Ryan Mulqueen. On the season, he is 7-0 at number one singles for the Griffins.
Brzezinski earned a win a singles and doubles in Gwynedd Mercy’s 7-2 win over Immaculata on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Taylor Zisholtz (Central Bucks East) earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at third singles and Honora Hegerty (Abington) notched a 7-5, 6-0 win at first singles in Penn State Abington’s 8-1 win over Wells College on Saturday. Zisholtz was part of the second doubles team that earned a 9-7 win. With the win, the Nittany Lions clinched the 2014 North Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title, improving to 6-0 in conference matches. In Friday’s 6-3 win over Keuka, Hegerty earned a 7-5, 6-0 win at first singles and was part of the first doubles team that won 8-3. Zisholtz notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles. In Thursday’s 8-1 win over Lancaster Bible College, Honora won at both first singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and first doubles (8-1) while Zisholtz was a winner at third singles (6-2, 6-0) and second doubles (8-0).

Senior Tyler Dougherty (Central Bucks South) was part of Saint Joseph’s 4x100 relay that finished sixth at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday, meeting the IC4A-level time in the event in 41.95.
Matt Bee (Central Bucks West) was part of Shippensburg’s 4x800 relay team that captured third at the Bison Open at Bucknell on Saturday. He also ran a season best 1:54.95 in the 800. In Wednesday’s Dickinson University Twilight Meet, Domonic Raguz (Central Bucks South) finished fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.46.
Ursinus senior Charles Wacker (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished first in the 1500 at Saturday’s Grizzly Invitational, posting a time of 4:19.97. In the 5K, David Slade (Abington) finished second at 17:15.81. In the 110 hurdles, Joseph Murray (William Tennent) was third with a time of 20.22.

James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was part of Bloomsburg’s 4x800 relay team that finished fifth at the Bison Open at Bucknell with a time of 8:19.63.
East Stroudsburg senior Keith Parker-Washington (Upper Moreland) finished first in the 100m dash with a time of 10.90 at the 9th Annual All-American Meet at East Stroudsburg. He also was part of the winning 4x100 relay (42.32) and second place 4x400 relay (3:22.51). Corey Smith (Central Bucks West) finished third in the pole vault (14-5 ½) while teammate Eric Conard (Souderton) was fifth (12-6).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Queens University freshman Ella Fox (Pennridge) was named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 13. Fox won the javelin throw at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational with a distance of 41.56 meters, setting a Queens program record. Her performance was also an NCAA qualifying mark.
Fox took second place in the javelin with a throw of 129’10” (39.55m) at the inaugural Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday in Hickory, N.C. On Saturday, she finished fifth in the shot put. Queens captured the SAC title, finishing with 208 points to edge Wingate (199).
Gwynedd Mercy’s Zakiyyah Richardson (Pennsbury) tied her season best time in the trials for the 100 meter dash with a 12.34 performance at Wednesday’s Gwynedd Mercy Midweek Twilight Invitational. She went on to finish first in the finals and was part of the 4x100 relay that finished first with a time of 49.33.
Ursinus freshman Chloe Johnson-Hyde (North Penn) finished first in the 100m dash at the Grizzly Invitational Saturday with a time of 13.48. Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) was third at 13.68. In the 200, Amber Steigerwalt (Central Bucks South) was second at 27.49. In the 1500, Samantha Innes (Hatboro-Horsham) finished third with a time of 5:40.34. In the pole vault, Elizabeth Cooley (Quakertown) was first at 8-6.
Shippensburg sophomore Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) – just a few weeks removed from the completion of her swimming season and making her collegiate track debut in the outdoor season – posted a time of 2:19.65 in the 800 meters at the Bison Open at Bucknell University to slot 10th in the PSAC rankings. Senior Monique Clemons (Wissahickon) posted a conference qualifying time at 400 meters with a time of 1:00.09. She was part of Shippensburg’s second place 4x400 relay that posted a time of 3:52.71.In Wednesday’s Dickinson University Twilight meet, Meier finished sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.70.
Widener freshman Alex Cucciarre (Souderton) placed second in the javelin at the 2014 Widener Invitational with a throw of 161-05.
Bloomsburg’s Taylor Harkins (North Penn) threw the shot put 12.33 meters (40’5.5”) at the Bucknell Team Challenge on Saturday to break the school record of 40’3” set in 1990. Improving her PSAC qualifying mark was Alexis Rankin (Hatboro-Horsham) in the 400 meters with a time of 59.48. Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) ran a personal best in the 3000 meters (10:58.71).
Alexis Bell (Norristown) was part of East Stroudsburg’s first place 4x400 relay team that set a meet record at the 9th Annual All-American Meet on Saturday, posting a time of 3:56.59. Bell finished fifth in the 200 meters (25.91). Freshman Kelley Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished second and turned in a PSAC qualifying time in the 400m hurdles (1:06.47). She was fourth in the 100m hurdles (16.01) and took sixth in the high jump (5-0 ¼). Mary-Kate Killoran (William Tennent) finished seventh in the 3000m run (11:20.28). Janee Williams (Abington) was ninth in the 400m hurdles (1:16.19).
