BASEBALL

Freshman Andy Noga (Cheltenham) threw the final three innings in East Stroudsburg’s 2-1 loss in 12 innings to Shippensburg on Sunday. He allowed one base runner in the first two frames before Shippensburg put together three two-out hits – including a pair of infield singles – to plate the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning. Shippensburg won the second game 10-5 as ESU fell to 22-17, 6-10. Mark Angelo (Quakertown) was 4-for-7 and was hit by two pitches to lead the Warriors at the plate in the doubleheader.
On Saturday, East Stroudsburg split a pair with Shippensburg, winning the first game 8-3 and falling in the second 4-3. Angelo contributed an RBI double in the win. Noga retired all seven batters he faced when he entered the game in the fifth. On Thursday, Angelo was 2-for-3 with a double in East Stroudsburg’s 9-4 non-conference win over Philadelphia University.
Senior Jamie Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) hit a grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning to give Temple a dramatic 8-7 win over Massachusetts in the opening game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Abercrombie, who singled, doubled, homered and drove in four runs, now has 197 career hits, good for fourth all-time at Temple. He needs three more to become the fourth Owl, and first since Rob Cucinotta in 2003, to reach the 200-hit plateau. Earlier in the week, Abercrombie had three hits in Temple’s 14-10 loss to Villanova on Tuesday.
Sophomore Mike Knipe (Pennridge) was chosen Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week. Knipe broke out of an early-season slump to lead Chestnut Hill (10-14, 5-4) to a 5-2 week, which included a 3-2 mark against CACC opponents. He opened the week with two hits and three RBIs in the first game against Penn State-Berks. He then hit safely over the final five games of the week, all versus conference opponents. He batted .409 (9-for-22) for the week with four walks, connecting on a home run and driving in seven runs. Knipe is batting .290 (20-for-69) with a home run and nine RBIs this season. He also stole seven bases last week, bringing his season total to 12.
Keith Mayer (Council Rock South) retired Lock Haven in order in the ninth inning to earn the save in Bloomsburg’s 6-5 win over Lock Haven in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday. Tony Donofry (Council Rock North) and Anthony Forman (Council Rock South) both contributed RBI singles. Lock Haven won the nightcap 9-8. Donofry was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Forman was 1-for-3. Bloomsburg dropped a pair to Mansfield on Sunday, 6-4 and 6-3. Donofry had two hits, including a double, and an RBI in the 6-4 loss.
Junior Derek Moyer (Souderton) had five hits and four RBIs in DeSales University’s 10-9 win over Montclair State University in a non-conference game on Tuesday. He had a solo home run, his fourth of the year, in the bottom of the fifth inning to put DeSales on top 9-6.
Eighteenth-ranked West Chester swept a pair from 14th-ranked Kutztown on Sunday, winning the first 13-8 and the second 8-3. Blair Dameron (Pennridge) was 4-for-5 in the second game with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and one RBI.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Ryan Washington (Wissahickon) finished sixth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in rebounding with 8.5 per game and third in blocks with 65.
MEN'S LACROSSE
Freshman Johnny Casey (Abington) scored a pair of goals in Widener's 11-2 win over Manhattanville on Saturday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Chelsea Rosiek (Wissahickon) contributed two goals and three assists to help lead Temple to a 12-6 win over Richmond on Sunday. The win was the first of the season for the Owls (1-10, 1-3 A-10). Rosiek had one goal and one assist in Temple’s 9-4 loss to George Washington on Friday.
Sam Alexander (Upper Moreland) scored a pair of goals and teammate Brieann Wolfe (Pennridge) had a pair of assists in Bloomsburg’s 17-8 win over Millersville on Sunday. Millersville goalie Courtney Haggerty (Hatboro-Horsham) stopped a season-high 18 shots but had 43 shots fired at her. Jackie Geiger (North Penn) scored a pair of goals for Millersville, and teammate Laura DeLuca (North Penn) led Millersville with nine ground balls. Geiger had a pair of goals in Millersville’s 16-13 loss to Shippensburg on Wednesday.
Alexander and Wolfe each scored a goal in Bloomsburg’s 13-9 win over East Stroudsburg on Wednesday. Alexander also had an assist. Sophomore Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) scored three goals for ESU while Christina Mongiori (Pennsbury) had a single goal.
Lindsey Moyer (Pennridge) and Jamie Wesztergom (Springfield) both scored three goals in East Stroudsburg’s 22-11 win over Kutztown on Sunday. Mongiori and Molly McLenigan (Plymouth Whitemarsh) each had two goals. Mongiori also had two assists.  Wesztergom had team-highs with eight ground balls and six draw controls.
SOFTBALL
Courtney Smyth (Abington) notched the win on the mound in Kean’s 2-1 win over TCNJ on Tuesday. It was her third win of the season.
East Stroudsburg swept a pair from IUP on Saturday, winning the first game 2-1 and the second 1-0. IUP starter Erin Holloway (Souderton) threw two complete games and held the ESU offense in check in game one until the Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. In the second game, ESU plated a run in the third when freshman Rachel Gieringer (Hatboro-Horsham) delivered a two-out RBI single. Gieringer led the Warriors' offense with three of their 11 hits.
Gieringer had a pair of hits in East Stroudsburg’s sweep of Millersville in a doubleheader on Tuesday (4-3, 5-3).
Senior Steph Denlinger (Souderton) continued her tear through the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division with two homers in Kutztown’s doubleheader sweep of West Chester on Tuesday (3-1, 3-1). Denlinger totaled four RBIs in the doubleheader. Denlinger, who had four home runs in two days, has 16 home runs this season and 72 in her career. She already owns the Division II record for career home runs and moved up to eighth place on the all-time collegiate record books as the Division I record for home runs is 90. The Golden Bears have won 21 of their last 22 games.
In game one, Denlinger hit a two-run home run in the third inning and a solo blast in the fifth to lead the Golden Bears to the 3-1 win. She finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kaitlin Arbogast (Wissahickon) pitched all seven innings to earn the win. She allowed one unearned run on five hits and no walks. She struck out seven to earn her 16th win of the season. Sara Golden (Souderton) and Heather Hannum (Hatboro-Horsham) also had singles for KU. In the second game, Denlinger had an RBI single in the ninth in KU’s 3-1 win.
MEN’S TENNIS
Carson Richter (Plymouth Whitemarsh) notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at fourth singles in Chestnut Hill College’s 7-2 loss to Philadelphia University.
Lee Wexler (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles in Bloomsburg's 8-1 win over West Chester on Saturday. He also teamed with Alan Hummel to earn an 8-2 win at second doubles.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Katie Hasyn (North Penn) earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at first singles in Bloomsburg's 9-0 win over Adelphi University on Sunday. Hasyn teams with Kristen Bonito to notch an 8-3 win at second doubles. In Bloomsburg's 8-1 win over West Chester on Saturday, earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles and was part of a second doubles team that earned an 8-0 win.
Jackie Jaffe (Council Rock North) and Kaeley McCabe teamed at No. 2 doubles to earn an 8-0 victory in Millersville's 9-0 PSAC Eastern Division victory at Cheyney on Saturday.
Freshman Candice Kashani (Pennsbury) defeated Jamie Latham 6-0, 6-0 at third singles in Gettysburg’s 9-0 victory over McDaniel College on Tuesday. Kashani teamed with Kelly Eurich to earn an 8-3 win in doubles. Freshman Liz Heisler (Wissahickon) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth singles. Gettysburg is 5-4, 1-2 CC.
Gettysburg freshman Candice Kashani (Pennsbury) notched a 6-1, 6-4 win in her first match at second singles in Saturday's 8-1 win over Bryn Mawr College. She also was part of a second doubles team that notched an 8-2 win.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
North Penn junior James Green (North Penn) was named to the 2008-09 Middle Atlantic Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll.
Millersville's Jorrell Nugent (Abington) finished fifth with a jump of 6.45 meteres in Saturday's PSAC Challenge. Keith Ogden (Cheltenham) was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed fourth. Millersville finished fifth overall in the meet.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
In running her first 800 meters of the season in Saturday’s Penn Invite, junior Anna Aagenes (Central Bucks West) won the race with a time of 1:22.49. A week earlier, Aagenes easily won the 1500 meters at the Maryland Invite with a time of 4:32.54, which was more than six seconds faster than her closest competitor. Penn finished second in the 14-team invitational.
Millersville senior Kristen Morby (Central Bucks West) set a school record in the pole vault, clearing 10' 6 1/2" to break a tie at 10-6 in Saturday's PSAC East Challenge on Saturday. She finished second in the event. Katherine Doyle (Central Bucks West) was part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished fourth. She also was part of the 4x400m relay squad that finished second. The women's squad finished third overall.
Bloomsburg's Julianne Spitzer (Central Bucks West) broke her own school mark in the pole vault with a jump of 8'6.25" (2.60) at Saturday's PSAC East Challenge.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore Michael Semeraro (Pennsbury) had seven kills and hit .500 in East Stroudsburg’s 3-0 win over NJIT on Tuesday.
