BASEBALL
Kutztown third baseman James Quigley (Bensalem) received honorable mention recognition on this year’s 2010 NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region team. He established career highs in his junior season in batting average (.370), home runs (6), RBIs (50) and runs scored (42). The third baseman delivered numerous clutch hits for the Golden Bears, including a two-run walk-off home run against East Stroudsburg to fuel a 6-4 victory. Over the first two games of the PSAC tournament, Quigley was 7-for-10. During the season, he had 17 multi-hit games. Kutztown secured a trip to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship in Cary (NC) with a 2-0 win over West Chester in the Atlantic Region championship game last Sunday.
West Chester’s Charlie Kelly (Council Rock South) received honorable mention recognition on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association 2010 Division II All-Atlantic Region Teams.
FIELD HOCKEY
LaSalle University’s Haley Froshour (Council Rock North) was named to the second team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women’s At-Large teams. Froshour earned honorable mention All-Atlantic 10 last fall after tallying a career-high eight assists as a defender. A starter in every game of her career, she anchored the Explorers’ defense that finished third in the league in goals against average. She also was second on the team with a pair of defensive saves. She earned academic all-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight season and graduated with a 3.97 GPA as a secondary education/Spanish major.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Lock Haven senior Allison Berger (Springfield) earned a spot on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) South All-Region team. She led the team in total points with 90, including 41 goals and 49 assists. She was second in the PSAC in points-per-game with 5.29, which is also seventh best in all of Division II. She is ranked sixth in the country in assists. She also received first team All-PSAC honors. Berger contributed a goal and an assist in Lock Haven’s 9-8 overtime loss to West Chester in the NCAA semifinal on Saturday. Jackie Hoover (Cheltenham) had a pair of goals for West Chester, and Gabrielle Stitz (Hatboro-Horsham) had one goal.
Junior midfielder Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) was named to the IWLCA Division II All-South Region second team and is East Stroudsburg’s first all-region selection in lacrosse since 2006. She was the Warriors’ second-leading scorer on a team that tied for the school record with 11 wins and made the PSAC Tournament for the second time in three years. She is a two-time first team All-PSAC East selection. She had 40 goals and 17 assists this season after a 47-goal, 12-assist campaign in 2009. She will enter her senior year with 102 career goals and 35 assists and has scored at least three goals in 20 of her 40 games for the Warriors.
SOFTBALL
Kutztown senior Kaitlin Arbogast (Wissahickon) was named to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region second team. The Wissahickon alum is the most decorated pitcher in the history of the Kutztown softball program. She was named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season. She finished her career as Kutztown’s all-time leader in strikeouts (1,026), complete games (100), shutouts (30), wins (99), games (166), saves (eight) and innings pitched (922). This season Arbogast finished with a 26-12 record and a 2.13 earned run average. She recorded 269 strikes. Arbogast fired off a pair of memorable efforts in the NCAA Tournament. With the Golden Bears needing to win a pair of games to stay alive in the tournament, Arbogast pitched consecutive shutouts against Fairmont State and Shepherd. She struck out a season-high 13 batters against Fairmont State. Overall, Arbogast finished with double digit strikeouts seven times this season.
IUP junior Erin Holloway (Souderton) was named to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region first team. She also was named to the national Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region first team for the 2010 season. Holloway set school records this season with 28 wins, 10 shutouts and 325 strikeouts, tied the mark for appearances with 39 and finished second with 34 complete games. She leads the PSAC and ranks fifth in the nation in total strikeouts while also ranking eighth nationally in wins and 12th in shutouts. The junior righthander also ranks second in the conference in wins and opponent’s batting average (.195), third in innings pitched (247 1/3) and fifth in ERA at 1.92. In addition to setting the single season strikeout record this year, Holloway also holds the second spot with 208 in 2008 and fourth position with 166 in 2009. In the IUP career record book. Holloway ranks first with 757 strikeouts and is second with 21 shutouts, third with 99 appearances, 51 wins and 579 1/3 innings, fourth with 74 complete games and sixth with an ERA of 2.34.
West Chester’s Brooke Muth (Pennsbury) was named to the 2010 NFCA Division II Atlantic Region second team as a utility player/pitcher. The Pennsbury alum was 16-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 35 appearances. She also hit .257 in 40 at bats.
TRACK & FIELD
Temple sophomore Tim Malloy (Neshaminy) qualified to compete in high jump in the NCAA East Regional which will be held May 27-29 in Greensboro, NC.
