IUP saw its softball season come to an end on Saturday when the Crimson Hawks fell to Midwestern State 3-0 at the Division II World Series in Salem, Va. Senior Erin Holloway (Souderton) finished her career at IUP as the school’s all-time leader in every pitching category and third in PSAC history in strikeouts with 1,004, complete games with 105 and innings pitched with 804 2/3, fifth with 78 wins and sixth with 32 shutouts. Holloway allowed six hits and one earned run, struck out three and walked two in the loss to Midwestern State, which improved to 53-13 and is ranked No. 5 in the country by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Holloway finished the season with a record of 27-5, one win shy of her single-season record set in 2010. In Thursday’s 9-4 loss to North Georgia, IUP took an early 3-0 lead, but North Georgia scored nine unanswered runs. Holloway reached a career milestone when she fanned Sarah Johnson in the fifth inning, giving her 1,000 in her career, the third pitcher in PSAC history to reach that total. Holloway finished with eight strikeouts in the game but walked five. Teammate Dee Eppinger (North Penn) singled and scored a run in the top of the first inning.
Erin Holloway (Souderton) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America first team. Previously this offseason, Holloway was chosen the PSAC Central and Atlantic Region pitcher of the year and MVP of the PSAC tournament when IUP won the conference title for the first time in school history. She joins Marissa Dugan as the only softball players in school history named a first team All-American by the NFCA.
