Widener sophomore Ryan Gallagher (Neshaminy) turned in a time of 28:35.8 in Saturday’s Harry Grooves Spiked Shoe Invitational.
Chestnut Hill junior Owen Ward (Harry S. Truman) finished 29th in the 10th Annual Wilmington University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday with a time of 33:28.59.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
West Chester sophomore Kristina Koutsouros (Cheltenham) finished fifth in Saturday’s Lock Haven College Invitational with a time of 22:34.43. Teammate Kim McManus (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished 44th with a time of 25:56.29. West Chester finished fourth in the meet.
Lock Haven freshman Laura Histand (Neshaminy) finished 10th in Saturday’s Lock Haven College Invitational with a time of 23:43.97. Teammate Nicole Wasniewski (Souderton) finished 31st with a time of 24:54.38. Lock Haven finished second behind Penn State Club in the meet.
FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her first varsity goal in Penn State’s 3-1 win over Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. Junior Jessica Longstreth (Council Rock North) converted a penalty stroke into a goal for the Nittany Lions, who evened their record at 2-2.
Megan Purcell (Pennridge) had five saves in goal in Widener’s 2-1 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. She has allowed just one goal in 140 minutes of action this season.
Sophomore Rebecca Chylack (Souderton) was credited with an assist in LaSalle’s 4-2 loss to Towson on Thursday.
Senior forward Brittany Kocis (Central Bucks East) contributed an assist in East Stroudsburg’s 4-0 win over No. 10 Adelphi on Sunday afternoon. Senior Jennifer Mullen (Hatboro-Horsham) played the final 4:30 in goal for ESU. The fifth-ranked Warriors improved to 3-0.
Sophomore Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored her first goal of the season in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 overtime loss to Delaware Valley College on Thursday.
Sophomore Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) contributed a goal and two assists in Lebanon Valley’s 7-3 win over Mary Washington on Saturday. On Thursday, Vasey had an assist in Lebanon Valley’s 5-0 win over #15 Johns Hopkins. Sixth ranked Lebanon Valley is 3-0 on the season.
Senior Katie O’Donnell (Wissahickon) scored a pair of goals in Maryland’s 8-1 win over Rutgers on Sunday. The 2nd ranked Terps are 5-0.
Sophomore Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) scored a pair of goals in Rider’s 8-3 win over the University of Pennsylvania.
FOOTBALL
Nick Gounaris (Pennsbury) made six tackles – including a sack - in Lock Haven’s 35-21 loss to Millersville on Saturday. Millersville’s Brandon Gunn (Wissahickon) rushed for five yards on two carries. Pat Cantrell (Pennsbury) had two unassisted tackles for Millersville, and teammate Jamie Thomas (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had one unassisted tackle and assisted on another.
Temple sophomore kicker Brandon McManus (North Penn) has been named one of three national “Stars of the Week” by the Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award, sponsored by the Palm Beach Sports Commission. In Temple’s 31-24 win over Villanova on Sept. 3, McManus made a career-high four field goals, including the game-winning 43-yarder with just three seconds remaining. He also added a PAT. He leads the Owls in scoring with 13 points. His 53-yard field goal was his career long and the second longest in school history. Don Bitterlich (William Tennent) holds the school record with a 56-yarder versus Akron in the 1975 season. McManus also earned Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week honors as well as OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week accolades.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Kelly McKay (Pennridge) and Michelle Wiater (Pennridge) were two of 21 Chestnut Hill College student-athletes to earn Academic Achievement Awards from the Division II Athletics Directors Association for the 2009-10 scholastic year. In order to be considered for nomination, a student-athlete must be at least a junior academically while carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and participating in an intercollegiate sport. McKay is a communications major and carries a 3.64 GPA while Wiater, who is undeclared, has a 3.75 GPA.

Freshman Francis Miller (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Bloomsburg’s 3-2 win over the University of D.C. on Sunday afternoon. On Wednesday, Tom Natter (Abington) contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 2-1 overtime loss to Caldwell.
Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) recorded six saves in Shippensburg’s 1-0 loss in double overtime to West Virginia Wesleyan. On Thursday, Foran was forced to make just two saves in recording his first career shutout in Shippensburg’s 1-0 win over Goldey-Beacom.
Lock Haven’s Ricky Domico (Neshaminy) scored the first goal of Saturday’s game against 18th ranked Millersville, but the Maurauders came back to earn a 4-2 win over Lock Haven.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
George Washington freshman defender Melanie Keer (Central Bucks South) was named Co-Rookie of the Week by the Atlantic-10 Conference after helping the Colonials post two shutouts. In GW’s 1-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s, Keer started the overtime period as a forward and pushed the ball up the field. She was able to get a pass off to Cara Cadigan, who scored the game winner. Keer led the Colonials’ back line, allowing the opposition just nine shots – including five on goal - in two matches en route to a pair of 1-0 victories.
Sophomore goalie Gabby Pakhtigian (North Penn) made a season-high seven saves in LaSalle’s 1-1 double overtime tie with host Loyola (MD) on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Senior Kelsey Stoka (Neshaminy) scored Bloomsburg’s lone goal in the Huskies 1-1 tie with Chestnut Hill College on Thursday.
Senior Steph Ferretti (Council Rock North) scored a first-half goal to lead Temple to a 1-0 win over East Tennessee State in the ETSU Soccer Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn., on Friday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Carson Richter (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-5 win in Chestnut Hill College’s 5-4 win over Adelphi University on Saturday.
Dan Lee (Abington) was part of a winning doubles team for The College of New Jersey, which dropped only one of 18 matches at the Stevens Doubles Tournament on Saturday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Regina Doherty was part of the third doubles team that notched an 8-0 win in Chestnut Hill’s 5-4 loss to Adelphi University on Saturday. Doherty’s third doubles team won by default in Friday’s 9-0 win over Malloy.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior outside hitter Alyson Stark (Council Rock South) had 17 kills in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 win over Saint Rose on Friday afternoon in its first match of this weekend’s tournament at American International College. Stark had 18 kills vs. American International. Stark moved into ESU’s career top 10 in kills and had her first two matches with double-figure kills this year, giving her 40 matches with 10 or more kills in her career.
Moravian College freshman right side hitter Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) had nine kills and four blocks in her collegiate debut against DeSales University on Wednesday. The Greyhounds rallied from a one-set deficit to earn a 3-1 win (26-28, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23).
