MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Alex Kane (Central Bucks East) led the field on the 5K course at the Dukes Invitational, hosted by Cumberland Community College on Saturday. Kane posted a time of 17:27.18, breaking the course record with an average of 5:36 a mile. It was his second top three finish in two collegiate meets this season. Junior Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) posted a fourth place finish with a time of 18:42.47. The Nittany Lions finished second as a team.

Shippensburg’s Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 27:23 at Kutztown’s Division II Challenge on Saturday. Shippensburg finished third overall.

La Salle’s Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished 12th overall and clocked a 19:06.12 at the Friends Big 5 Invitational on Friday at the Belmont Plateau. The Explorers finished first in the overall team standings, scoring 29 points.

Penn State junior Chris Campbell (Council Rock North) was the Lions’ number four finisher, taking ninth in the team standings with a time of 26:50 at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday. Freshman Conner Quinn (Hatboro-Horsham), who ran unattached, finished ninth in the overall standings with a time of 26:35. The Nittany Lions finished second in the team scoring with 39 points behind only Bucknell, which finished with 33 points.

Bloomsburg’s James Wilson (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 29:44 at the Division II Challenge Meet at Kutztown on Saturday. Bloomsburg finished 10th as a team.

East Stroudsburg freshman Dan Davis (North Penn) finished 28th with a time of 26:34.5 at the Kutztown Division II Challenge on Saturday. The Warriors finished fifth out of 13 schools.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Liz Wedekind (Pennsbury)
finished fifth overall in Elizabethtown’s Blue Jay Alumni Challenge on Saturday, posting a time of 16:22.26.

Kutztown junior Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) crossed the finish line in a time of 24:40.8 at the Division II Challenge hosted by Kutztown on Saturday morning. Kutztown finished in ninth place as a team. Junior Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 26:03.

Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 26:05 at the Division II Challenge Meet at Kutztown on Saturday. Running their first ever 6K races were Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) and Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon), posting times of 24:24.29 and 26:15 respectively. Bloomsburg finished sixth as a team.

Millersville’s Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) crossed the finish line with a time of 25:03.7 in the Division II Challenge on Saturday at Kutztown.

Penn State Abington senior Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) finished in seventh place with a time of 24:05.88 at the Dukes Invitational, hosted by Cumberland Community College on Saturday. The Nittany Lions finished second as a team.

La Salle’s Anne Areias (William Tennent) finished 17th overall at the Friends Big 5 Invitational on Friday afternoon at Belmont Plateau, posting a time of 14:54.15. As a team, the Explorers finished third.

FIELD HOCKEY
Lehigh freshman Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8. Glatt scored her first two career goals, including the only goal in Lehigh’s 1-0 win at Towson. Glatt began the week by scoring late in the first half of her team’s game against the University of Pennsylvania. She followed that by scoring the first and only goal at Towson at the 7:01 mark. Lehigh went on to pitch its first shutout since 2011 while beating the Tigers for the second straight season.
Glatt scored a goal in her third straight game in Lehigh’s 4-0 win over Georgetown on Friday. Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) was credited with the assist and also scored a goal in the contest.

Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) and Courtney Heverly (Quakertown) both contributed assists in Bloomsburg’s 4-0 win over Bellarmine University on Saturday.

Becky Ely (Council Rock North) converted a penalty stroke in Messiah College’s 3-0 win over Juniata College on Wednesday.

Casey McGowan (Central Bucks South) scored a goal in sixth-ranked IUP’s 3-2 loss to Limestone last Sunday.

Junior back Blaire Wilkie (North Penn) scored a goal in Scranton’s 4-0 win over Albright on Saturday.

Junior back Maddy Harding (Central Bucks South) scored a goal on a penalty corner in Villanova University’s 4-2 win over St. Louis on Saturday. In Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Kent State, junior back Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) was credited with her third assist of the season.

Senior Kacie McCreesh (Pennridge) scored her second career goal in Quinnipiac’s 3-1 loss to Lafayette on Friday.

Goalkeeper Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) was credited with two saves in third-ranked Princeton’s 2-1 overtime win over Michigan on Friday.

Junior goalie Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) recorded a career high 11 saves for her third win of the season in The College of New Jersey’s 4-1 road win at Juniata College on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Cabrini, Krause, Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) and a third goalie split time in the shutout.

Sophomore Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) scored her team’s only goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 loss to Alvernia. In Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Delaware Valley, senior Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) sparked the offense with two goals and an assist.

Rachel Valentine (Souderton) scored a goal in Lock Haven’s 5-0 win over Siena on Sunday.

Freshman Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) had two defensive saves from her center back position in Widener’s 3-2 loss to Wilkes on Saturday.

Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) helped set up a penalty corner that resulted in a goal in No. 13 Penn State’s 4-3 win over No. 3 Princeton on Sunday. The win snapped the defending NCAA national champions 17-match winning streak. In Penn State’s 3-0 win over Lock Haven on Wednesday, Purvis assisted on a goal.

FOOTBALL
Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South)
shared the team lead with eight tackles in Monmouth University’s 28-25 loss to No. 19 Lehigh on Saturday.

Junior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) finished with 27 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown in Lycoming College’s 34-18 win over Wilkes on Saturday.

Junior wide receiver Josh Williams (Central Bucks South) had two receptions for a team high 78 yards in Ursinus College’s 41-23 win over Gettysburg on Saturday. Sophomore kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) kicked a 26-yard field goal. Freshman running back Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a 13-yard touchdown run and finished with 13 carries for 58 yards.

Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) hauled in a team high nine passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in Shippensburg’s 58-38 loss to Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) delivered a sack that caused a fumble in No. 23/25 West Chester’s 56-41 win over Gannon on Saturday.

Rasheed Johnson (Norristown) led Millersville’s defense with seven tackles in the Marauders’ 49-7 loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday.

Freshman quarterback Bruce Campbell (Pennsbury) saw his first career action in the fourth quarter of East Stroudsburg’s 70-7 win over Seton Hill on Saturday. Sophomore Brandon Mercer (North Penn) is averaging 36.0 yards on four kick returns this season (four returns, 144 yards). He had returns of 30 and 35 yards at Seton Hill and 36 and 33 yards vs. AIC.

MEN’S GOLF
Temple senior Matthew Crescenzo (Cheltenham) was tied for 10th with a one-under 139 at The Dock Gimmler on Saturday. The Owls finished in a tie for fifth in the 14-team event.

La Salle’s Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) finished nine over par with a three round total of 222 (73-71-78) to tie for 27th in the standings of the Rutgers Invitational this weekend. The Explorers tied for seventh out of 17 teams. Teammate Greg Goodreds (Hatboro-Horsham) tied for 34th, carding a 223 (72-74-77).

WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot 79 and 77 to tie for sixth place out of 63 golfers at the New York University Invitational Golf Tournament held at the par 72 Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y., this weekend. The Middlebury team placed second out of 11 teams in the tournament. Last weekend, Glatt finished fourth overall at the eight-team St. Lawrence Invitational, finishing with a 156 after a 76 on day one. Middlebury finished third overall.

MEN’S SOCCER
Freshman forward Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) contributed an assist in Ursinus College’s 3-0 win over Rosemont on Saturday.

Matt Robinson (North Penn) and Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) contributed assists on the game-winning goal in La Salle’s 2-1 win over St. Peter’s on Saturday.

Junior Troy Czapor (Council Rock South) connected on his second goal of the season in Widener’s 7-0 win over D’Youville on Saturday.

Kyle MacDonald (Pennsbury) sent the Penn State faithful into a frenzy after knotting the game with his first career collegiate goal in the 77th minute in the Nittany Lions’ 1-1 tie with No. 5 Cal in front of an announced crowd of 3,032 in University Park.

Christian Benner (Souderton) scored on a scramble in the box in West Chester’s 3-0 win over Gannon on Saturday.

Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored on a penalty kick and teammate Matt Cannon (Council Rock North) both contributed a goal in Bloomsburg University’s 3-2 loss to Seton Hill on Friday. In Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to visiting NYIT, Miller contributed an assist on the Huskies’ lone goal.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Taylor Gerstenfield (William Tennent)
contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 4-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday.
Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) scored her team’s only goal in Wilkes University’s 1-1 tie with Lebanon Valley on Friday. In last Sunday’s 3-1 win over Mount St. Mary, Roberts also scored a goal. 

Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 64th minute of Temple’s 2-0 win over Binghamton on Friday. `

Junior Molly Phillips (Pennsbury) struck a shot from the right corner of the box that the Ursinus goalie was unable to control, and her teammate touched the ball into the net to propel Gettysburg to a 1-0 win over Ursinus. It was the second assist of the year for Phillips. In Thursday’s 1-0 win at Catholic University, Phillips scored the game’s only goal.

Cara Deola (Council Rock South) and Lexi Brown (Pennsbury) both scored goals in West Chester’s 4-2 loss to Mercyhurst on Friday. Carly Yost (North Penn) set up Brown’s goal with a crossing pass. In last Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Kutztown, Deola scored a goal.

Sophomore Megan Kelley (North Penn) scored her second goal of the season in Millersville’s 2-0 win over Kutztown on Tuesday. The Marauders are 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2000.

Junior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) drove home a rebounded ball from 20 yards out to give Holy Family a 2-0 lead in its 6-0 win over Concordia College on Saturday.

Sophomore midfielder Cindy Wade (Abington) put Penn State Abington on the scoreboard with her third goal of the season in the Nittany Lions’ 7-0 win over Gallaudet University on Saturday. Freshman Kayla Nolan (Abington) scored a pair of goals while freshman Molly Wyman (Abington) and Jacqueline Alexander (Council Rock North) each added a goal. In last Sunday’s 6-1 win over Washington Adventist University, Alexander, Brigitta Good (Abington) and Megan Murphy (William Tennent) each scored single goals while Nolan added an assist.

Freshman keeper Meghan Kaminski (Central Bucks South) made her collegiate debut in the second half of No. 13 Penn State’s 6-0 win over Bucknell on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL
Cornell senior Samantha Creamer (Neshaminy) was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Honora Hegarty (Abington)
earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at first singles in Penn State Abington’s 6-3 win over Cairn University on Tuesday. Carly Powell (Central Bucks West) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. Powell was part of a first doubles team that earned an 8-3 while, and Hegerty was part of the second doubles team that also notched an 8-3 win.

Rachel Fein (Wissahickon), Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) and Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins at first, second and sixth singles in Gwynedd Mercy’s 9-0 win over Baptist Bible on Saturday. At fourth singles, Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) earned a 6-2, 6-1 win. Fein was part of the Griffins’ first doubles team that earned an 8-0 win while Michener and Kriebel teamed to earn an 8-0 win at second doubles. Caffarello was part of the third doubles 8-0 win. In Friday’s 9-0 win over Cairn, Fein (6-0, 6-0), Michener (6-2, 6-2), Kriebel (6-4, 6-2) and Caffarello (6-1, 6-0) earned wins. All four were part of doubles teams that earned 8-0 wins. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 6-3 win over Division II University of the Sciences, Michener (8-5), Kriebel (6-1) and Caffarello (8-3) earned wins at second, fourth and sixth singles respectively.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Kutztown sophomore Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) opened her sophomore campaign with four breakout matches. For her performances she was named the KU Bookstore Athlete of the Week. In Kutztown’s season-opening win against Philadelphia, she notched a career high 16 kills on 24 total attacks. She also added six blocks. She increased her blocking output to nine blocks against Caldwell in KU’s next match. She registered 15 kills with just two attack errors. Following an eight-kill performance against So. New Hampshire, Stringer registered 15 kills in a 3-0 win against Davis & Elkins. For the week, she notched double-digit kills in three of her four matches and leads the team with 54 kills and 19 total blocks. She leads the PSAC in hitting percentage, total kills and total blocks.
Stringer had five kills in Kutztown’s 3-0 win over West Virginia on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-2 win over Shepherd, Stringer had 14 kills and eight blocks.

Sophomore setter Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) served for nine consecutive points in the first set of Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Thursday. Koenig finished with 28 of Cabrini’s 29 assists on the night. Junior Dana Wisniewski Plymouth Whitemarsh) was key to the team’s third set victory, serving for eight consecutive points to give Cabrini a 12-2 lead. 

Sophomore Leah Brown (William Tennent) led Penn State Abington with 12 assists and eight digs in the Nittany Lions’ 3-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday. Freshman setter Sam Nelson (Central Bucks West) had 42 assists in the Nittany Lions 3-2 loss to Wesley. In Thursday’s 3-1 win over Valley Forge Christian College, Nelson had 10 assists.

Freshman middle hitter Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) contributed 11 kills in Eastern University’s 3-1 win over Richard Stockton on Saturday.

UConn junior captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named tournament MVP of the 2013 Georgia Tech Courtyard Classic on Saturday. In the Huskies 3-0 loss to Georgia Tech, Maugle, who eclipsed 10 kills in each match of the tournament, had 11 kills and nine digs. In UConn’s 3-0 win over St. John’s, Maugle contributed 11 kills and five digs. In UConn’s 3-2 win over Troy, Maugle set new career bests in kills, tallying 19. Maugle, who hits .349 in the match, had 13 digs as well, posting her third double-double of the season.

Senior Michelle Carrieri (Central Bucks South) had four kills in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 loss to Cabrini on Thrusday night.

Senior middle blocker Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) recorded five kills on a .444 hitting percentage in Moravian’s 3-0 win over Ursinus College.

Freshman libero Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) was in double figures for digs for the ninth time in 11 contests this season, picking up 11 digs in UMBC’s sweep of Coppin State on Saturday. In UMBC’s 3-0 win over St. Francis (Pa), Griffith led the Retriever backline with 15 digs. In Tuesday’s sweep of Towson, Griffith had a team high eight digs. Last weekend, Griffith earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Radisson Cross Keys Greyhound Challenge at Loyola.
