MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Widener junior Jason Caporale (Neshaminy) posted a time of 21:21.37 at the Main Line Invitational at Haverford on Thursday.

Shippensburg freshman Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) finished 16th overall with a time of 12:44 at the Dickinson Short Invitational on Saturday. Shippensburg finished first as a team.

Gwynedd Mercy freshman Matt French (Bensalem) posted a time of 22:51 at the Main Line Invitational on Thursday.

Penn State Abington sophomore Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) was chosen as the Co-NEAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22. It is the second consecutive week he has received this honor. Kane won his second straight event after taking first place at the Nittany Lions’ own Penn State Abington Invitational, finishing the eight-kilometer course in 29:26. Kane led the field of 55 participants throughout the entire race and finished the hilly terrain two minutes and 11 seconds ahead of the second place runner. The Nittany Lions placed third overall out of six teams on the day.
Kane led the men’s squad in the 8K race at the SUNYIT Invitational on Saturday, crossing the line fifth out of 164 runners with a time of 27:08 and shaving 2:18 from last week’s race at Lorimer Park.

East Stroudsburg sophomore Dan Davis (North Penn) finished 11th with a time of 26:11.80 at the Don Cathcart Invitational at Salisbury University on Saturday.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Elizabethtown’s Ashley Underkofler (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 17:12.9 in the 4K at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational on Saturday. The Blue Jay women finished in a tie for ninth out of 19 teams in the team standings.

Millersville’s Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) finished 23rd overall with a time of 15:44.6 at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational on Saturday. The Marauders finished fifth out of 19 teams in the short race.

Penn State Abington senior Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) finished 49th with a time of 23:34 at the SUNYIT Invitational, shaving 2:18 off her time of last year.

Bloomsburg’s Katie Dodds (Upper Dublin) finished 15th at the Husky Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 20:32. Bloomsburg finished second to Bucknell in the team standings.

Gwynedd Mercy freshman Hannah Geiger (Council Rock South) posted a time of 20:18 at the Main Line Invitational at Haverford College on Thursday.

La Salle’s Anne Areias (William Tennent) finished 24th with a time of 17:59.49 at the Main Line Invitational on Thursday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrini senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was named to the Spring 2013 President’s List, an honor given to student-athletes who earned a grade point average over 3.9. The women’s basketball team was given the college’s Academic Achievement Award for Athletics for the greatest improvement in GPA for one academic year. Sandone was one of four seniors who accompanied coach Kate Pearson to receive the honor from Cabrini Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. David Dunbar.

FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) took a team-high three shots, all on penalty corners, in Widener’s 2-0 loss to Stevenson on Saturday.

Junior back Maddy Harding (Central Bucks South) gave Villanova a 1-0 lead by scoring on a tip-in from the top of the circle in the Wildcats’ 7-3 loss to No. 3 Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. It was the first time the Huskies have fallen behind in a game this season.

Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) received honorable mention Rookie of the Week recognition from the Patriot League for the week ending Sept. 22. The freshman forward scored a goal in six straight games, after tallying goals in losses to Bucknell and Albany last weekend.
Glatt scored a career-high two goals to extend her point streak to eight, but it wasn’t enough as Lehigh fell to La Salle 4-2 on Sunday. Glatt has scored a goal in seven of her last eight games and owns a team-leading eight goals and 17 points for the season. In Lehigh’s 4-1 loss to Lafayette on Saturday, Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) scored a goal 23 seconds into the second half. Glatt was credited with the assist. The goal marked Lehigh’s first against Lafayette since the 2007 season, spanning seven games. In last Sunday’s 4-1 loss to #11 Albany, Glatt scored a goal for a sixth straight game.

Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) scored her second goal in as many games in No. 8 Bloomsburg’s 5-0 win over ninth-ranked Kutztown on Tuesday night.

Jennalise Taylor (Pennsbury) contributed an assist in Quinnipiac’s 5-1 win over Holy Cross, representing the fourth straight game she has contributed a point. Teammate Kacie McCreesh (Pennridge) also had an assist. In last Sunday’s 5-0 win over Saint Joseph’s, Taylor scored a goal.

Junior forward Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks South) scored a goal that turned out to be the game winner in Yale’s 3-2 win over Vermont last Sunday, connecting with 6:45 remaining in regulation to break a 2-2 deadlock.

Colleen Kempf (Central Bucks South) recorded a goal and assist in La Salle’s 4-2 win over Lehigh on Sunday. In Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Penn, Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) drained her team-leading sixth goal of the season. In last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Liberty, Shoemaker contributed an assist.

The College of New Jersey junior Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22. The Rock North grad posted back-to-back shutouts for TCNJ’s hockey team that was ranked 12th nationally with a 5-1 record.
Krause registered her fourth shutout of the season in #11 TCNJ’s 1-0 win over #3 Salisbury on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Kean, Krause did not face a shot while posting a shutout.

FOOTBALL
Junior offensive guard JD Dzurko (North Penn) was named the Offensive MVP by the Blue Hen Touchdown Club for the University of Delaware's home opener against Jacksonville University. The 6-3, 290-pound junior guard anchored an offensive line that helped Delaware pile up 51 points and 611 total yards, including 337 on the ground. The 51 points in the Blue Hens' 51-35 win was the most on opening day for Delaware since 1993. The 611 yards was the 17th highest in Delaware history and most since 2000. The 373 yards rushing was the most since 201. Three runners gained over 80 yards for the first time since 1995. Dzurko is a history education major.

Linebacker Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South) led the defense with six tackles, including two for a loss and a sack, in Monmouth’s 38-14 win over Columbia on Saturday.

Sophomore wide receiver Gerard Wendowski (North Penn) had four catches for 71 yards, both career highs, in East Stroudsburg’s 40-6 win over Cheyney on Saturday.

Lycoming junior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) earned honorable mention recognition from USA College Football for the week ending Sept. 23. Needhammer rushed for a career high 182 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lycoming to a 52-14 win against Misericordia on Sept. 21. He rushed just 16 times to rack up the 182 yards, averaging 11.4 yards per carry while only playing the first half. He scored on touchdown runs of 21, 23 and 36 yards, giving him four on the season and 19 on his career. Needhammer also outrushed the nation’s leading rusher in the game as the Warriors’ defense held Jeff Puckett to 43 yards.
Needhammer reached 100 rushing yards for the third straight game, finishing with 108 yards on 26 carries in Lycoming’s 16-14 upset of No. 24 Widener on Saturday.

Freshman running back Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) rushed for 57 yards on nine carries in Ursinus College’s 40-21 win over McDaniel on Saturday. Sophomore kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) connected on a 36-yard field goal that put the Bears on top 17-7, and he also converted 4-of-5 extra points. Junior wide receiver Josh Williams (Central Bucks South) hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass. Williams finished the game with six receptions for 75 yards. Defensively, Kevin James (Hatboro-Horsham) tied for the team lead in tackles with six with one solo and five assisted, including one-half sack.

Senior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) broke the school record for career sacks in Shippensburg’s 48-10 win over Millersville. The Souderton grad recorded 2.5 sacks for the second consecutive week, bringing his season total to 5.0 and his career total to 24.5. He surpassed Ed Brown (1979-82), who held the previous school record at 24. Metz’s 44 career tackles for loss places him fourth in school history, 8.5 behind Cody Fleming (2009-12). Junior wide receiver Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) caught SU’s first two touchdowns of the day, marking the first multi-touchdown performance in his career. He had three receptions for 35 yards in the game.

MEN’S GOLF
St. Joseph's University's TJ Summers (Central Bucks West) had his first career hole-in-one on the final hole of the day on the par 3, 195-yard 12th hole during the final round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational last Tuesday. Summers led the squad, tying for 27th after carding a one-under-par 71 on the final day at Bull's Bridge Golf Club (par 72/6,992 yards). Summers posted a three-round score of 80-76-71=227. As a team, St Joe's shot 309-311-308=928 over the course of two days. Summers is a sophomore majoring in food marketing.

Temple junior Matt Teesdale (Hatboro-Horsham) tied for 14th overall among the 96 golfers in the Hartford Hawk Invitational, shooting a seven-over 223. Teammate Alec Kissell (Plymouth Whitemarsh) shot a 243. On the first day of the tournament, Teesdale was two-over on his second round with three holes to play before catching lightening in a bottle and finishing with a birdie, double eagle and eagle for a four-under 68 to tie Rutgers’ Doug Walters for the low round on the day.

La Salle junior Greg Goodreds (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a 73-74=147 (+5) to lead the Explorers during day one of the George Mason Intercollegiate on Saturday at Laurel Hills Golf Course in Lorton, Va. Goodreds started out on fire and was five-under through seven holes. His consistent 73-74 showing was good for 18th place in the 65-player field. Senior Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) had a 72-79=151 (+9) to tie for 30th with a round to go. The Explorers carded a two-round score of 298-304=602 (+34) and stand in seventh place with 18 holes to play.

WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury College junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) captured fourth place individually out of 50 golfers at the Middlebury Invitational Golf Tournament on Sept. 28 and 29 at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the Middlebury College campus. Glatt led her team with scores of 81-80 and the Middlebury team came in second place out of nine teams participating.

MEN’S SOCCER
Marco Paparo (Abington)
scored a pair of goals in Penn State Abington’s 6-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday. Senior goalkeeper Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) recorded his first shutout of the season. In Penn State Abington’s 13-1 win over Valley Forge Christian College last Sunday, Paparo scored a goal.

Junior Ryan Roedel (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 win over Stevenson on Tuesday.

Sophomore Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) scored a goal in La Salle’s 3-1 win over Stetson on Saturday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Penn State Abington junior Mallory Mugnier (Abington) was named the NEAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22 after a record-breaking performance. The junior midfielder scored four goals in the Nittany Lions’ 7-0 nonconference win over Notre Dame (Md.), which set the Abington record for most goals scored in a game. She also had an assist in the victory, giving her nine points on the milestone day.
Mugnier scored a goal in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 win over SUNY Cobleskill. Teammate Cindy Wade (Abington) also contributed a goal.
Freshman defender Katie Miller (North Penn) scored her first collegiate goal in Kutztown University’s 3-1 win over IUP on Saturday afternoon.

Cara Deola (Council Rock South) scored the lone goal of the game in West Chester’s 1-0 win over No. 15 East Stroudsburg in PSAC action on Saturday.

Megan Kelley (North Penn) provided an assist on No. 9 Millersville’s only goal in the Marauders’ 3-1 loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday.

Sophomore Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) netted the game winner, her second in the last three games, in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 win over DeSales on Monday.

Jamie Vaniver (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins on Thursday.

Freshman Marykate Bateman (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her first collegiate goal in La Salle’s 3-1 win over Stetson on Thursday.

Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) scored an unassisted goal off a 20-yard shot in Wilkes University’s 1-1 tie with Susquehanna on Wednesday.

Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) scored on a right-footed shot into the upper right corner of the net in the 64th minutes to put Elizabethtown on the scoreboard in its 1-0 upset victory over nationally ranked No. 7 Misericordia on Wednesday.

Ashley Schoellkopf (Pennridge) teamed with keeper Mara Hricik to make five saves in IUP’s 3-1 loss to Kutztown.

Freshman midfielder Jeannie Jasinski (Pennridge) scored a goal in Ursinus College’s 2-1 loss to McDaniel on Saturday. In the Bears’ 4-0 win over Bryn Mawr, freshman forward Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) contributed a goal and an assist.

MEN’S TENNIS
Steven Ly (Bensalem)
earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at second singles in Penn State Abington’s 9-0 win over Cabrini on Wednesday and also teamed with Kevin Wilkinwon to earn an 8-2 win at first doubles. In Friday’s 6-3 win over Eastern, Ly earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at second singles.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cabrini’s Katie Kennedy (Wissahickon) was named to the Spring 2013 Dean’s List, an honor given to student-athletes who earned a grade point average between 3.5-3.89.

Lindsey Tennis (Quakertown) was part of a doubles team that earned an 8-6 win in a match against East Stroudsburg in day two action at the Bloomsburg Invitational on Sunday.

East Stroudsburg junior Allison Bean (Neshaminy) was 1-2 in singles action at the Bloomsburg Fall Invitational.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) was selected the CSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22. Fein became the all-time program leader in wins, highlighting a 4-0 singles and 3-1 doubles record to give her 128 total wins. All of her singles wins came in straight sets. Included in her wins was a 3-1 win over La Salle’s Caitlin Coelho (6-4, 6-3). In the Griffins’ championship rematch with Marywood, Fein earned a 6-1, 7-6 (12-10) win.
Fein and sophomore Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) were dual winners in Gwynedd Mercy’s 7-2 win over Richard Stockton on Wednesday. Fein as part of the number one team while Caffarello was the number three doubles team that swept all three matches. In Thursday’s 7-2 loss to Philadelphia University, Caffarello was part of Gwynedd-Mercy’s only doubles team win.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) led her team at the net with five blocks and 10 kills in Kutztown’s 3-2 loss to Edinboro at Gannon University on Saturday. In Kutztown’s 3-1 win over Mercyhurst on Friday, Stringer had nine kills and five blocks. In the Golden Bears’ 3-2 win over Slippery Rock, Stringer led the team and posted her third straight match with double-digit kills with 15. She also was active on the defensive line and tallied a team-high five blocks. Stringer hit for a .387 percentage with just three errors.

Senior Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) had six kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 win over Hollins University on Saturday.

Cabrini’s Kristy Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the Spring 2013 Dean’s List, an honor given to student-athletes who earned a grade point average between 3.5-3.89.

Abbie Keating (Neshaminy) recorded 10 digs in Cairn University’s 3-0 win over Lancaster Bible College on Friday. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Baptist Bible College, Keating had seven kills.

Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) had three blocks in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday. In Thursday’s 3-0 loss to Widener, Harvey led the offense with nine kills and two blocks.

Sophomore Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) had five digs and 31 assists in Cabrini’s 3-1 win over Cairn University on Saturday.

UMBC freshman Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) was selected the America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22. Griffith paced the Retriever back row at the Gold and Blue Players Challenge last weekend as UMBC defeated Liberty and Georgetown in back-to-back matches. For the weekend, the rookie scooped up 53 digs in three contests, including 26 in the five-set victory over the Hoyas. For the year, Griffith is averaging 4.06 digs per set to rank fourth in the America East. In addition, she places in the league’s top 20 for service aces (15th) and assists (18th).
Griffith was credited with 13 digs in UMBC’s 3-1 win over Stony Brook on Friday’s America East opener. In Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to American, Griffith led the UMBC back line with 18 digs.

Junior middle hitter Kate Schalck (William Tennent) had 12 kills in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 loss to Rowan on Saturday at the York College Invitational. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-0 loss to FDU-Florham later in the day, freshman setter Heather Kobrzynski (Central Bucks South) had 11 assists. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to York, Sam Nelson (Central Bucks West) was credited with eight assists. In a 3-0 loss to #17 Stevenson, Kobrzynski and Schalck led the offense with four kills each. In Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Bryn Mawr, Nelson recorded 36 assists.

Steph Elechko (North Penn) had seven kills in No. 15 Eastern University’s 3-0 win over No. 19 Christopher Newport University in the CNU Invitational on Saturday. In Eastern’s 3-1 win over No. 17 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she teamed with Katrina Pisch for 12 kills. In Friday’s 3-0 win over Scranton in the CNU Invitational, Elechko had a pair of aces. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over DeSales, Elechko had 11 kills.

Senior middle blocker Mara Berzins (Pennridge) had three solo blocks in Ursinus College’s 3-2 loss to McDaniel on Saturday. In the Bears’ 3-1 win over Immaculata on Tuesday, Berzins had three solo blocks.

Freshman Abby Mummert (Central Bucks South) contributed five kills in Shippensburg’s 3-1 loss to California on Saturday.

Senior Michelle Carrieri (Central Bucks South) had 16 digs and six aces while Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) added a career high five blocks in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-2 loss to Arcadia on Saturday.
