BASEBALL
Joe Crossin (Pennsbury) earned the win in Bloomsburg’s 3-2 win over ninth-ranked Kutztown on Sunday, allowing six hits, walking six and fanning nine. Keith Meyer (Council Rock South) contributed a single in the seventh when the Huskies plated the go-ahead run. Bloomsburg dropped the first game of the doubleheader 13-0.
Tony Donofry (Council Rock North) hit a solo home run in Bloomsburg’s 7-3 loss to ninth-ranked Kutztown in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Huskies dropped the second game 10-3. On Tuesday, Donofry delivered a walk-off double to propel Bloomsburg to a 7-6 win over Lock Haven in game two of a doubleheader. The Huskies lost the first game 7-3.
Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) pounded out three hits, scored a pair of runs and drove in four runs in LaSalle’s 12-5 win over Temple on Sunday. Teammate Eric Kammler (Pennridge) contributed an RBI single. On Saturday, Chris Umstead (Pennridge) hit a solo home run as part of a four-run second in LaSalle’s 6-5 loss to Temple. Umstead finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.  Kevin Christy (North Penn) worked 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits, walking five, striking out five and allowing five earned runs. On Friday, LaSalle earned an 11-10 win over Temple with Gyles delivering the game winner with a two-out RBI single in the 12th inning. Gyles hit for the cycle and was 5-for-7 with two runs scored and seven RBIs. The five hits are the most since 2007 and the seven RBIs are the most since 1999. Gyles and Umstead both contributed home runs. Gyles has a team-high 31 RBIs. In Wednesday’s 11-6 loss to Penn, Gyles and Adam Kammler (Pennridge) each contributed a hit. Kammler scored three runs.
Junior Mike Knipe (Pennridge) hit a two-run, walk-off home run in Chestnut Hill’s  5-4 win over Felician College on Saturday. Teammate Alex Latchum (Central Bucks South) contributed an RBI single. The Griffins dropped the second game 9-1. On Wednesday, Eric Blood (Pennridge) contributed a pair of hits, two RBIs and a run scored in Chestnut Hill’s 8-5 win over Philadelphia University. Knipe added a run-scoring triple.
Robbie Zinsmeister (North Penn) contributed an RBI single in a six-run sixth inning in IUP’s 9-8 win over California.  He also scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. IUP won the first game 9-0. The Crimson Hawks are 15-5, tied with California for first place in the PSAC West.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Temple junior forward Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) earned first team All-Philadelphia Big 5 honors. He is the first Temple player since 1971 to average a double-double. The 6-9 forward averaged 11.5 points and 10.7 rebounds for the season. He also earned first team All-Atlantic 10 Conference and first team all-District honors.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Sophomore Nate Meyer (Abington) contributed an assist in Widener’s 13-3 win over Misericordia on Saturday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Freshman Lauren McDermott (North Penn) scored three goals in LaSalle’s 10-9 come-from-behind win over UMass on Sunday. The win gives the Explorers nine wins, which ties the 2005 squad for the most in a season. With the win, LaSalle captured the No. 2 seed in next weekend’s Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Explorers will have a rematch with UMass on Friday. Last Friday, McDermott had a pair of goals in LaSalle’s 13-11 overtime win over Temple.
Junior Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) scored a career-high six goals and nearly led East Stroudsburg to an upset of No. 9 Dowling, but the Warriors came up just short, falling 13-10 on Saturday. She added an assist for a career-high seven points and had her 19th career hat trick. On Friday, Mangiaruga and teammate Lindsey Moyer (Pennridge) both had two goals and an assist in ESU’s 9-4 win over Millersville. Freshman Ali Green (North Penn) converted a free position into a goal as well. Millersville goalie Courtney Haggerty (Hatboro-Horsham) had 12 saves. In Monday’s 16-12 win over Kutztown, Mangiaruga had three goals and an assist while Moyer scored a pair of goals.
Senior Gayle Kuntzmann (Hatboro-Horsham) scored an unassisted goal 44 seconds into Shippensburg’s 11-5 loss to No. 5 Mercyhurst on Saturday. She also had two ground balls and three draw controls. In Shippensburg’s 11-7 loss to West Chester last Monday, freshman Roxanne Brown (Pennridge) and Kuntzmann both contributed a goal. Kuntzmann also had four caused turnovers, four ground balls and three draw controls.
Allison Berger (Springfield) scored a game-high five goals, including the game-tying and game-winning goals, in Lock Haven’s dramatic 11-10 overtime win over second-ranked C.W. Post on Saturday. The Lady Eagles, ranked third in the latest poll, improved to 13-0 overall. On Friday, Berger tied her season-high with seven assists in Lock Haven’s 23-2 win over Edinboro. In Monday’s 19-4 win over IUP, Berger scored four goals and handed out a pair of assists.
On Tuesday, Berger was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Player of the Week. In two games – both wins, she led Lock Haven with four goals and a team-high 11 assists. She is Lock Haven’s assist leader and ranks among the top in the PSAC with 33 assists on the season.
Morgan Mangiaruga (North Penn) scored a goal in Millersville’s 20-6 loss to Bloomsburg on Monday.
SOFTBALL
Senior Nicole Koren (William Tennent) had the game-winning RBI in Virginia’s 1-0 win over North Carolina State on Sunday when she delivered a two-out RBI single to center. The win gave Virginia the series win over the Wolfpack. The Cavaliers have won the series with Maryland, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State this season and currently are in second place behind Georgia Tech.
Meredith Morris (Central Bucks South) was two-for-four, which included a two-run home run, in Lock Haven’s 9-6 win over West Chester on Friday. The Lady Eagles swept the twin bill with a 5-2 win over West Chester, which was ranked 22nd in last week’s national poll.
Brooke Muth (Pennsbury) threw a complete game in West Chester’s 5-1 win over East Stroudsburg on Wednesday. In game two – a 7-4 West Chester win in eight innings, Muth allowed just three hits in five innings of relief while earning the win. Megan Harbaugh (Hatboro-Horsham) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. She also had an RBI single in the sixth.
Courtney Zingle (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed three hits and two runs scored while teammate Beth Everist (North Penn) added three hits, three runs scored and an RBI in Mount St. Mary’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Sacred Heart on Saturday (11-6, 5-4). Zingle moved into seventh place for runs scored in a single season with 30. Everist moved into ninth place for RBIs in a single season at the Mount with 26. Amanda Sadowl (Hatboro-Horsham) is in ninth place for appearances in a season with 26 and 10th in innings pitched (135) and 10th in career games pitched (47).
Kaitlin Arbogast (Wissahickon) notched the win in Kutztown’s 7-3 win over Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday. The Golden Bears won game two 8-0. For the season, Arbogast is 23-8 with 228 strikeouts in 217.1 innings of work. She boasts a 1.95 ERA for the Golden Bears, who are 37-14 overall.
Pam DelPizzo (Central Bucks South) earned the win on the mound in Elon’s 5-2 win over Campbell on Thursday. She improved to 3-3 on the season with the complete-game win. DelPizzo allowed a pair of runs on seven hits and two walks. She struck out a season-high seven batters. Elon won the opener 8-6.
Freshman Deanna Dungee (North Penn) hit an RBI triple in Alvernia’s 6-3 win over Penn State-Berks on Thursday. The freshman pitcher allowed no runs through four innings in Alvernia’s 16-3 rout of Gwynedd Mercy on April 8.
Erin Holloway (Souderton) recorded her 20th win of the season and ninth shutout in IUP’s 11-0 win over Mansfield on Saturday. Dee Eppinger (North Penn) contributed an RBI. In IUP’s 11-3 win in game two, Holloway also picked up the win to improve to 21-4 on the season. She had 14 strikeouts and allowed three runs on four hits in six innings of work. On Tuesday, Holloway broke the IUP strikeout record by fanning 17 in the Crimson Hawks’ doubleheader split with defending national champion Lock Haven. In game one – a 2-1 loss, Holloway struck out nine. In IUP’s 9-0 win, she struck out seven.
Erin Holloway, who broke her own IUP single-season strikeout mark, was named the PSAC Central Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the regular season. Holloway won three of four decisions and had an ERA of 0.88 in a doubleheader sweep of Mansfield and a split with Lock Haven that clinched second place in the PSAC Central for IUP. She struck out 43 batters in 24 innings of work during the week, including 26 in only 11 innings vs. the Mountaineers. She had two shutouts. The junior righthander has 252 strikeouts this season and broke Laura Krapsho's 14-year-old record for wins with 21 against only four losses. She has 24 completed games in as many starts with nine shutouts and a 1.15 ERA while also contributing a pair of saves. Holloway leads the PSAC in strikeouts and batting average against at .158 and is third in wins, ERA and innings pitched with 176 1/3. She ranks first in IUP history with 684 career strikeouts, third in wins with 44, tied for fourth with 64 complete games, tied for second with 20 shutouts and fifth in innings pitched with 508 1/3 and ERA at 2.13.
Sophomore Samantha Schoell (North Penn) delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning of Temple's 2-1 win over Villanova on Thursday. The Owls won the second game by a 3-2 score.
Junior Moira Johnson (Council Rock South) hit a three-run home run in Shippensburg’s 10-9 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Senior Lisamarie Ramagli (Neshaminy) contributed an RBI single. East Stroudsburg’s Rachel Gieringer (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed a hit and RBI. The Red Raiders swept the doubleheader with a 10-2 win over the Warriors in game two of the twinbill with Ramagli delivering a two-run home run. She finished the game a near-perfect 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Johnson was 1-for-3 in the game two. Gieringer once again had an RBI single.  The game was the final of Ramagli’s career. As a senior, she led the Red Raiders with 28 RBIs and scored 19 runs while drawing 13 walks. She finished her career with 20 home runs, one short of the old school record.  On Friday, Ramagli contributed three hits and three RBIs in Shippensburg’s 7-6 win over Millersville in the second game of a double header. Johnson contributed a single. The Red Raiders dropped the first game 6-3.
MEN’S TENNIS
In the College of New Jersey’s 9-0 win over Drew University on Wednesday, Dan Lee (Abington) earned a pair of wins to extend his overall winning streak to 18 straight, which includes both singles and doubles matches.
Carson Richter (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of Chestnut Hill’s second doubles team that earned an 8-0 win in the Griffins’ 9-0 win over Post University on Sunday. On Tuesday, Richter was part of the number two doubles team that earned an 8-0 win in Chestnut Hill’s 9-0 win over Bloomfield College.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Katie Hasyn (North Penn) won her first singles match 6-2, 6-0 in Bloomsburg’s 5-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. She was also part of the second doubles team that earned an 8-2 win. On Saturday, Hasyn earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles in Bloomsburg’s 5-2 win over Charleston. She also was part of the second doubles team that earned a 9-7 win.
Hasyn was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending April 11. Hasyn went a combined 4-0 for the week.
Claire Afrassiabian (Norristown) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles in West Chester’s 5-4 loss to East Stroudsburg last Tuesday.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
East Stroudsburg’s Alfred McHanley (Cheltenham) finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 42’ 6 1/4” at the Fifth Annual All-American Meet on Sunday.
Widener senior James Green (North Penn) took third in the javelin throw at 56.07 meters at the Widener Invitational on Saturday.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
East Stroudsburg’s Kayla Littrell (William Tennent) finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in the Fifth Annual All-American Meet on Sunday.
Widener senior Nikita Halteman (North Penn) won the shot put at 12.18 meters and the hammer throw at 40.90 meters at Saturday’s Widener Invitational. She also was second in the discus throw at 37.24.
Lock Haven’s Vanita Moses (Neshaminy) was second in the hammer throw with a mark of 161-11 at the Bucknell University Team Challenge on Saturday.
