Jenny Guidera can do it all. The Central Bucks East senior excels in cross country and track. She recently finished 11th and medaled at the PIAA Class AAA State Championship. She also ran a lifetime best of 17:59 at the SOL championships, placing second and propelling the Patriots to a Continental Conference title. “As a freshman, she ran about 20:02 at Lehigh, and as a senior, she ran 17:59,” coach Matt Catinella said. “A lot of that is talent, and a lot of that is she’s very disciplined and takes her training very seriously. It’s rare to see a high school kid as she focused is with her training. She’s extremely coachable.”
This past fall Guidera’s mother suffered a serious head injury in an accident and remains in rehab, but through it all, the senior harrier never missed a cross country practice and continued to excel. “Running was almost like a crutch for me at that time,” she said. “It was very helpful in just keeping my mind clear and keeping me doing what I love to do.”
Guidera is a National Honor Society student who is enrolled in AP classes. A gifted musician, she picked up a guitar for the first time four years ago. Since that time, Guidera has added songwriting to her long list of passions. She has performed in various venues in Doylestown through CB Cares, and she performs weekly at local nursing homes through an organization she formed last year called Music for the Soul.
Guidera, who plans to run at the collegiate level, is undecided on a major but is considering neuro-science or possibly economics. Her college list is headed by Princeton, Yale, Columbia and Brown.

Michael McGuire was a captain of North Penn’s soccer team that advanced to the second round of the district tournament this fall. Several games into the season, coach Paul Duddy elected to move McGuire from outside midfielder to central midfielder. “He was playing well, and I felt we needed to get him more involved in the mix,” the Knights’ coach said. “We put him in the middle of the field, and he just did very well. Besides being a great defensive player, he scored some real important goals, some game winners for us throughout the year. He’s definitely a leader on the field.”
McGuire, according to his coach, is made of all the right stuff. “He’s a great kid from a great family,” Duddy said. “It’s almost old-fashioned, but you tell him something, and it’s ‘Whatever you want coach, that’s what I’ll do.’ He’s kind of a throwback to a certain degree.”
As much as he enjoys soccer, McGuire is equally passionate about his academic pursuits. “I am kind of nerdy when it comes to school,” he said. “I take my grades very, very seriously.” McGuire – a member of his church’s congregational council - is a member of the National Honor Society and has a course load that includes three AP classes.
McGuire hopes to play soccer at either the club or intramural level next year, and he is considering either a communications or business major with an interest in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.
