Falcon coach Joe Kiefer calls this match “our Army-Navy game.”
In the first match of the contest, the Redskins’ Kevin O’Connor appeared heading for a loss by a major decision when he rallied to pin. Neshaminy then reeled off two more wins to take a 15-0 lead.
Pennsbury came back to make it 24-21. Josh DiSanto’s pin at 125 and Jeff Lieb’s fall at 130 made it 36-21.
Then it was hold-your-breath time as Neshaminy won the final three bouts. Joe Simcox majored at 135, Colby Lederer pinned at 140 and Brendan Hastings decisioned at 145.
Had Hastings tech falled, the match would have been tied and come down to first points scored.
“It was an exciting high school wrestling match, back and forth,” said Kiefer. “I knew it would be tough. I figured 8-6 or 7-7 in bouts and bonus points would make the difference.”
Kiefer praised freshman 112-pounder Julian Rana, who won his first varsity match with a 46-second pin. DiSanto also ran his undefeated streak to 18, and Anthony DiEmidio majored at 119 for his 11th win against no losses.
Council Rock North 39, Abington 33
The Ghosts gave Rock North a scare when they blasted out to a 24-0 lead, running the table from 171 through heavyweight. But the Indians had the hand in the lower and middleweights.
“It was a good match,” said Abington coach John Gillespie.
Council Rock South 40, William Tennent 35
Tennent hung in with a slightly depleted South team.
“I’m real happy,” said Tennent coach Joe Rigous. “We wrestled really well. It was an exciting match.”

Pennridge 52, North Penn 12
With Pennridge holding a slim 9-6 lead, C.J. Moyer’s 18-second pin at 119 pumped up the Rams.
“It really got everybody going,” said coach Dan Goetter.
Feeding on the frenzy, Bryan Ross went out at 125 and turned a 1-1 tie at the end of two into a 9-1 decision.
Andrew Haughey also rallied for a win at 130. Down by three points heading into the final period, he came back to win it in overtime.
“That sealed it up for us,” said Goetter. “After that we went on a tear.”
Goetter was particularly pleased with the way his wrestlers performed overall.
“They wrestled to their potential,” he said. “I knew they could wrestle like that. They wrestled with heart.”
North Penn coach Rob Shettsline, on the other hand, was disappointed with his team. The Knights won just two bouts. Nick Gill and Tyler Romano both recorded pins.
“They did not wrestle well,” said Shettsline. “It was very disgusting.”
Souderton 38, Central Bucks South 36
According to coach Stan Smith, the Indians did everything they could do to lose this match. The Indians had to forfeit three matches and bump everybody from 112 to 140 up a weight. Souderton found itself down 24-0 before coming back. Greg Kabajian’s pin at 130 decided the match.
Central Bucks East 38, Hatboro-Horsham 25
The Patriots tripped up Hatboro for the second straight year. After forfeiting two weight classes, East won eight of 12 bouts. Freshman Francesco Fabozzi (125), Nick Dau (145) and Tim Mysza (285) all recorded pins for the Patriots.
“I thought it would be a total tossup,” said East coach Dave Scarpill. “The key to the match was that none of our kids who lost got pinned.”
American Conference
Upper Moreland 61, Plymouth Whitemarsh 12
Coach Dave Bolich was hard pressed to single out any of his wrestlers.
“Our guys stepped up,” he said. “Technically they did what they needed to do.”
The Golden Bears won 10 bouts and received two forfeits. PW was missing one of its best wrestlers Lucas Wisniewski from the lineup. The only two Colonials to win were Justin and John Michael Staudenmayer (125 and 171, respectively), who both pinned.
Winners for the Golden Bears were Chris Flemming (103 by fall), Tom Lloyd (112-eight second pin), Anthony Dill (130 by major), Anthony DeLaurentis (135 by decision), Artem Imnadze (152 by decision), Paul Scott (160 by pin), John Bolich (189 by pin), Zach Ebben (215 by decision) and Sebastian Medina (285 by pin).
“It was nice for the kids to see the rewards of their efforts after grinding it out against all the tough competition we’ve faced,” said Bolich.
Upper Dublin 72, Upper Merion 6
The highlight of the match for Upper Dublin was Devon Dhoble’s decision over one of the Viking’s best grapplers at 189. Upper Merion’s lone win came from Nick Vuotto.
