Council Rock South (6-6, 3-3) catapulted to a 21-6 first period lead and held off a comeback by Pennsbury (4-8, 2-4) to defeat the Falcons 45-40.

The Suburban One League National Conference game was played at Council Rock South.

“That first period was rough – extremely rough,” said Pennsbury head coach Bill Coleman. “The turnovers in the first quarter killed us, and it seemed like they converted on every one of those turnovers.

“But I have to give my kids credit, though, they made a game of it by the end,” added Coleman as the Falcons closed to within three points in the fourth quarter. “But the clock just ran out.”

Council Rock South had a huge effort turned in by Justin Thomas. Thomas scored a game-high 18 points and matched that total with 18 rebounds.

Pat Silverthorn also scored in twin digits for the Golden Hawks with 10 points while Mike DiPaolo had 11 steals to go along with five points.

Kieran Bolger has led Pennsbury in scoring for most of its games this season. However, Rock South held the talented Falcon guard to just five points.

“They did a great job of taking Kieran out of a lot of our sets,” said Coleman. “But we were still able to compete without a great contribution from him, and that was a good sign.”

Neshaminy Clips Holy Ghost Prep

Neshaminy (9-1) catapulted out to a 16-6 first period lead and held off Holy Ghost Prep (8-6) to win a 52-45 contest.

The non-league game was played at Neshaminy.

“We were very patient in the first period and getting good looks at the basket,” said Neshaminy head coach Jerry Devine. “But in the second period we got a little sloppy defensively, and we had too many one pass possessions on offense.

“We attacked the basket much better in the second half,” continued Devine. “Dwight Williams carried us on his back in the third quarter and scored 11 (of his 15) points.”

Tyler Katz led the Skins in scoring with 17 points, while Ryan Arcidiacono scored 12 points for the winners.

“Holy Ghost is very well coached and is a quality basketball team,” said Devine. “This was a nice win for us.”
