Plymouth Meeting – Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-2) routed visiting George Washington (9-5) by a crushing 34-point margin – 80-46.
The post game meeting in the Colonial locker room was held behind closed doors. And not a sound of celebration was to be heard.
“My job is to be in a bad mood,” smiled Plymouth Whitemarsh head coach Jim Donofrio. “I see things during the game – little things like securing the basketball – and we have to be better at that.
“I want us to play a certain way, and we have been going through this season redefining ourselves,” added Donofrio. “We lost some great players last year in C.J. Aiken and Whis Grant, but we still have a very talented group of players.”Included in that brilliant collection is senior Jaylen Bond. Bond – the dominating 6-foot, 7-inch Colonial captain – scored 28 almost effortless points against GW. Bond also collected a dozen rebounds and had six blocked shots.
Also impressive for the defending PIAA Quad-A State Champion Colonialswas senior guard Stephon Baker who sliced and diced his way to 20 points.
“Coach does a great job of keeping us focused,” said Stephon Baker in reference to Donofrio’s post game meeting. “He always wants us to be prepared, and we would worry if he didn’t have something to say to us after a game.”
Next on the agenda for Plymouth Whitemarsh is a Tuesday (1/18/11) meeting with rival Norristown (11-1) – at Norristown. And on the line is first place in the Suburban One League American Conference as both clubs will enter the game unbeaten in conference play.
“These two schools have a fifty-year rivalry – and it has to be the best one in our area,” said Donofrio. “Norristown is a good team, and we are going to have to go their place focused – we can’t be too cool.
“This is a great time during the year to play this game,” added Donofrio. “Are we going to mature in the way we play? Or, are we going to be too emotional?”
“Both teams always really get up for this game,” said Bond. “We have to come out hard. Norristown likes to play the game fast, and so do we. It should be a good game.”
And win or lose, the PW locker room door will be closed after the game.

Rock North Preps For SOL National Showdown
Council Rock North (11-1) readied for its confrontation with Neshaminy (11-1) on Tuesday (1/18/11) with a 59-47 non-league win over host Glen Mills (7-2).
A Neshaminy win would tie them with the Indians for first place in the SOL National Conference.
“That seems to be the game that everyone is looking forward to,” said Council Rock North head coach Derek Wright. “We had a couple of nice wins over Bensalem and Glen Mills to get us ready.”
In the victory over Glen Mills, guard Aaron Morgan scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth period. Morgan was six of seven on the free throw line in the final eight minutes.
“We got a decent lead, and Aaron did a good job of making free throws in the final period,” said Wright. “He made them when they counted most.
“Playing Glen Mills – on a Saturday afternoon in front of their entire school – was quite a challenge for our players,” added Wright. “But I felt that we responded very well.”
Arron Goodman scored 13 points and had seven rebounds for Rock North, while Charlie Anastasi had 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
“Playing Neshaminy at their place is going to be another challenge for our players,” said Wright. “But we are looking forward to meeting that challenge.”
It should be a good one.

Around the Suburban One League
Central Bucks West (8-4) defeated winless Upper Perkiomen (0-14) by a 56-16 margin. That’s right – 16 points.
The Bucks – who led 44-8 at intermission – were led in scoring by Derek Dyer with 15 points. Kevin Sweet scored in twin digits for West with 14 points.
Central Bucks East (6-5) moved over .500 for the season with a 51-35 non-league victory over Spring-Ford (9-6).
The Patriots – who have now won four straight games – were led in scoring by Matt Stauffer with 16 points. Ryan O’Neil – who collected eight rebounds for East – scored in double digits with 11 points.
Central Buck South (2-11) put up an excellent fight against unbeaten Upper Darby (13-0) as the Titans dropped a 50-42 contest.
CB South – which led the Royals 10-3 at the close of the first quarter - was led in scoring by Steve Schneider who scored a team-high 16 points. James Delgato scored in double figures for the Titans with 11 points.
Pennsbury (4-8) also put up a good fight against unbeaten Church Farm (11-0) as the Falcons dropped a 76-62 verdict to the Churchmen.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Kieran Bolger who scored a game-high 24 points. Kris Hassell added nine points for Pennsbury while Zach Sibel scored eight points.
Quakertown (1-11) lost its tenth straight game as the Panthers were defeated by Easton – 68-48 – in a non-league game.
The Panthers had two players score in double figures. Steffon Spieker led Q-town with 15 points, while Corey Jorgensen scored in twin digits with 12 points.
