Council Rock North SOL National Conference Champions

Council Rock North (19-1, 13-0) earned the conference crown behind a magnificent performance by junior Aaron Morgan as the Indians bested Bensalem (16-5, 10-3) – 55-43.

Morgan – the Rock North point guard – scored 34 points for the Indians.

“Aaron was great tonight, but really we expect that of him,” said Council Rock North head coach Derek Wright. “He had a great mid-range game, and when we spread the offense in the second half, we made them guard him.

“He was able to take the ball to the basket and make clutch free throws in the final quarter,” added Wright. “He had an terrific overall game.”

The only other Indian in double figures was Charlie Anastasi with 11 points.

The lone scorer in twin digits for the Owls was Julian Hyden with 12 points.

Wright also gave his ‘bigs’ their props.

“John Raymon, Charlie Anastasi, and Arron Goodman didn’t score a lot of points, but they were terrific on the boards,” said Wright. “Bensalem is a very big and athletic team, and I don’t know that they got more than five offensive rebounds.

“To win back-to-back championships is very special,” added Wright. “And to be able to do it at Bensalem is very tough. This is the last time we will play in that gym, and I will miss it.

“We still have Neshaminy on Friday, and that is going to be a real good game,” added Wright. “They have a lot of talent, and if they score 91 points on us (see below) we are in a lot of trouble.”

Rams win a HUGE game

Pennridge (16-5, 10-3) will be playing for a piece of the Continental Conference championship after the Rams claimed a thrilling 57-53 double overtime victory over Central Bucks West (13-8, 8-5).

Pennridge will close the conference season at Quakertown (1-20, 0-13) on Friday night.

“It was a tremendous high school basketball game,” said Pennridge head coach Dean Behrens. “It was a one possession game for most of the night.

“We had our chances to win the game, and they had their chances,” added Behrens. “I can’t wait to look at the film of this one.”

Pennridge will now have an opportunity to something that a boys’ Ram basketball team has Never accomplished – win a championship.

“Right now we have to focus on Quakertown,” said Behrens of the struggling Panthers. “It will most likely be their Senior Night, and a win over us will surely make their entire season.”

Mike Guldin led the Ram offensive attack with a game-high 18 points, while Jared Schaffer scored 14 points and Andrew DeCew added 10 points for the winners.

Central Bucks West was led in scoring by Anthony Salvitti with 17 points, while Kevin Sweet (15) and Derek Dyer (11) each scored in double figures.

“Salvitti was tremendous,” said Behrens of the Buck point guard who fouled out near the end of regulation. “He seemed to do everything well for them.

“We haven’t beaten West since 2004,” added Behrens. “It was a good feeling.”

The Rams might have that championship feeling late Friday night.

Trojans eject Cardinal ‘monkey’

Wissahickon (12-8, 6-5) snapped a five game losing streak against Upper Dublin (11-11, 4-8) with a 58-47 conference win over the Flying Cardinals.

“It was just an outstanding performance by the entire team,” said Wissahickon head coach Kyle Wilson. “There was a long stretch in the first half that if Mike Sheier wasn’t hitting a shot, Anthony McKie was hitting one. If Kyle Garrett was hitting one, Jordan Reed was hitting one.

“This was absolutely one of the best games that we played all season,” added Wilson. “And to do it in a meaningful game against a close rival was special.

“We made the extra pass on offense and we had great shot selection,” continued Wilson. “We moved the ball on offense, and we moved our feet on defense.”

Scheier – who had five 3-point field goals – finished with a game-high 18 points. Garrett added 12 points for the Trojans, while McKie and Reed each tallied 11 points for the winners.

“We finish our conference schedule with Cheltenham on Friday,” said Wilson. “We beat them the first half of the season, and they are going to tough to beat again.

“I told the players after the game that we have to play our best basketball from now on,” added Wilson. “There are only good teams left to play.”
