The Golden Hawks found their offense on Tuesday, receiving contributions from everyone who saw action as they rolled to the big win.
“This was important because we haven’t been shooting well,” coach Monica Stolic said. “We didn’t shoot well against Pennsbury. We didn’t shoot well again Rock North.
“We went back to basic fundamentals at practice, and I think the kids got a little confidence.”
Alex Wheatley once again led the way, contributing another routinely excellent performance with 21 points and 13 rebounds in just three quarters of action. Alexis Hofstaedter added 13 points and six assists, and Taylor Dillon contributed eight points. Brooke Beidler added six points to the balanced Rock South attack.
The Golden Hawks improved to 5-2 in league play (8-4 overall) while the Owls dropped to 1-6 in the league (3-8 overall)

Gabby Schumacher was back in the lineup after missing the last game because of illness, and she made her presence felt, scoring a team-high 17 points. Alex Borkowski added a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Erin Martin had 12 points, three steals and three rebounds while Alyssa Butcher had eight points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Colonials sprinted to a 19-4 lead at the end of one quarter and upped that lead to 35-15 by halftime but then had to fight off a furious second-half comeback by the Eagles.
“We had a really explosive first half,” coach Becky Duffy said. “The girls played great offensively. They played very well as a team.
“We also played really good defense in the first half and kept our focus.”
The Eagles outscored the Colonials 19-14 in the third quarter and 30-24 in the second half.
“In the second half, Norristown got hot and started hitting open shots,” Duffy said. “I was proud of the fact that we did the little things to keep us in the game.
“Shots weren’t falling, but we never gave up and we still executed.”
The Colonials are 4-2 after one trip around the league (7-5 overall) while Norristown fell to 2-4 (7-7 overall)

The Vikings needed another heroic comeback to eke out a win. This time they rallied from a four-point deficit with six minutes remaining. Kristina O’Sullivan converted a layup with 20 seconds remaining to put the Vikings on top 34-33. O’Sullivan was fouled after coming up with a steal on the defensive end. She buried both foul shots to give the Vikings their final margin of victory.
For good measure, O’Sullivan came up with a steal with time winding down to seal the win. She finished with a game-high 15 points.
“They made some shots, and they hung around,” said coach Tom Schurtz. “Give them credit. They played really hard.”
The Vikings led 12-10 at the end of one quarter only to see the Golden Bears rally to go into halftime with a 21-18 lead before the Vikings staged their late-game comeback.
“We’re a streaky shooting team,” Schurtz said. “We had a number of games where we were shooting the ball well. We’re on a streak right now where we’re not, and that’s just the way it is.
“The girls played tough down the stretch and found a way to win a game we did not do well execution-wise on the offensive end. They made a lot of shots with a hand in their face.”
The Vikings – who start two freshmen, one sophomore and two juniors – lost another starter to pneumonia.
While the Vikings improved to 2-4 in league play (6-8 overall), the Golden Bears dropped to 0-6 in the league (1-11 overall)
Cheltenham 51, Wissahickon 35
The Lady Panthers sprinted to a 20-8 lead and never looked back on their way to their seventh win in as many conference games. Shayla Peoples also was in double figures with 10 points while Christina Coleman added nine points.
The Trojans were led by the 14-point effort of Dominique Earland. Rachel Stone added nine points.
While the Trojans fell to 2-4 in the league (5-7 overall), the Lady Panthers improved to 7-0 in the SOL (10-3 overall).
