Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Wrightstown is proud to recognize the Players of the Week for each conference. Players are chosen based on the nomination of coaches.
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Week – Charles Snorweah, Pennsbury
The junior running back scored his team’s first three touchdowns with runs of 49, 44 and eight yards, spotting the Falcons a 21-0 halftime lead on their way to an impressive 43-12 win over Frankford on Saturday. Snorweah finished the day with 198 yards on just nine carries for an average of 22 yards a carry.
Coach Galen Snyder says: “It was a breakout game for him. This is his third year playing for us, and he’s only a junior. He did a lot of blocking the past few years, but he finally got a chance to see what he could do running the ball. We spread the ball around with our running backs. He’s never going to be in an ‘I’ where you’re carrying the ball 20 times a game. You have to be a complete back in our offense where he’s got to be able to block, run and go out and catch the ball. He’s our guy to do all those three things.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Week – Alex Nicolas, Neshaminy
The senior defensive lineman had a huge game in Neshaminy’s 39-0 win over Downingtown West that saw the Whippets manage just 130 yards of total offense. Nicolas had seven total tackles, including 1.5 for a loss. He also was credited with 1.5 sacks.
Coach Mark Schmidt says: “In a big game against a very skilled and experienced offense, Alex rose to the occasion Friday night against Downingtown West. Lining up at multiple positions, he was able to disrupt the inside run game and get to the quarterback in crucial situations. We are hoping he can rise to the occasion again Thursday against a very good Souderton offensive line.”
CONTINENTAL CONFERENCE
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Week – Marvin Todd, Central Bucks West
The senior running back had himself quite a debut in a West uniform, rushing for 190 yards and two touchdowns in the Bucks’ 19-12 win over William Tennent. Todd had a 30-yard TD run to put the Bucks on the scoreboard, and he sealed the win with a five-yard TD run.
Coach Brian Hensel says: “Marvin is the kind of kid who is extremely athletically talented but very unassuming about himself. He doesn’t look at anything he’s doing as above and beyond what his job is on the team, and he serves as an inspiration for others to want to work harder and be better. He’s a threat every single time he touches the ball.”
Sterling Limousine Two-Way Player of the Week – Jake Warren, Central Bucks East
The Patriots’ senior defensive back came off the bench to deliver an interception and was part of a defensive unit that limited the Eagles to just three first downs the rest of the game after they scored an early touchdown. Warren also had a pair of one-yard touchdown runs in East’s 27-7 win over Norristown.
Coach John Donnelly said: "Jake is a perfect example of hard work paying off, of the 'next guy' mentality, and of earning the right to play. He has a positive attitude and plays the game with a great deal of positive energy. He moved from wide receiver to running back and earned the nickname of 'Crazy Legs' in our second scrimmage. He was sitting behind several players on offense, but he is now the guy heading into Abington. He is more than reliable on both sides of the ball and is on virtually every special team. Jake's story has been a good one that I hope continues to get better."
AMERICAN CONFERENCE
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Week – Jequan Mitchell, Upper Merion
The senior running back turned in a monster performance in Upper Merion’s 34-14 win over Ocotorara, gaining 203 yards on the ground on 25 carries. He also had a pair of touchdowns, including a 23-yard TD run that gave the Vikings a lead they would not lose.
Coach Harold Smith says: “He’s a very hard worker. He’s been through a lot personally, but he never complains. He shows up for everything in the offseason. He’s really committed to the program. He’s a captain for us, and he’s a great leader. Against Octorara, he made some great moves. He had a 42-yard run where he made six people miss. He’s a very exciting runner.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Players of the Week – Khalil and Khalif Hopkins-Bey, Springfield (Montco)
The senior twins shut out Neumann-Goretti’s Jamal Custus in the Spartans 29-6 win on Saturday. The 6-6, 220-pound wide receiver, who on Sunday made a verbal commitment to accept a football scholarship to Syracuse, did not have any receptions. Khalif, who plays safety, had an interception, and Khalil, who plays corner, had numerous pass break-ups.
Coach Chris Shelly says: “Both are captains of our team and set the tempo for our team in terms of hitting and intensity. Khalif wears 20 to honor Brian Dawkins, and Khalil wears 21 to honor Deion Sanders.”
