STERLING LIMOUSINE AND TRANSPORTATION
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sterling Limo Player of the Week
Sean Smith, Central Bucks South – The senior wide receiver/defensive back was an impact player on both sides of the football in Central Bucks South’s 34-24 road win at Spring-Ford. Smith had 10 receptions for 209 yards and a school record four touchdowns. Defensively, he had an interception and was third on the team with six tackles. He also had one punt return of 25 yards.
Coach Tom Hetrick says: “We choose a game captain every week, and he was chosen our game captain. It was mostly because – through the course of camp – we have a few guys that are going to have to be involved on both sides of the ball pretty heavily. He’s one of a couple of guys that have shown they have no desire to ever come off the football field, and they want more than anything to be out there making plays.
“He’s greedy when it comes to wanting to make plays, and I like that. I want him to want the ball. We need to put the ball in the hands of playmakers. (Quarterback) Josh Consoletti had a great game, but Sean Smith was on fire. He was running great routes. He has an uncanny ability to target a football when it’s in the air and adjust his body. He lit it up. He set a school record in touchdown receptions. Even the pick was an unbelievable football play, so overall, it was an outstanding performance on both sides of the ball. He laid it all out there Friday night, and he’s a great kid too.”
Sterling Limo Offensive Players of the Week
Khaloni Eaton, North Penn – The sophomore running back turned in a dazzling performance in his varsity debut, finishing with 283 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 18 carries in North Penn’s 55-34 win over Neshaminy. Eaton had TD runs of 10 and 65 yards.
Coach Dick Beck says: “We thought he had a lot of ability. We wanted to play him as a ninth grader, but it didn’t work out last year. It’s not easy to learn all the plays. I thought ability-wise he could do it. He did a nice job during camp picking everything up. The thing I liked about his running style – it’s downhill. He doesn’t get greedy, he doesn’t try to bounce every ball, he’s got great balance, and he runs very hard. We don’t want him to read his press clippings. We want him to want to get better. I think there’s nowhere to go but up. He had a great game, but I think there’s more in him.”
Anthony Giordano & Will Silverman, Central Bucks East – The junior duo of quarterback Anthony Giordano and wide receiver Will Silverman were all but unstoppable in Central Bucks East’s 27-13 win over Quakertown. Giordano, who was 15-for-20, threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns. The 350 yards is second best in school history and six yards shy of the school record. Silverman had six receptions for 217 yards (a school record) and three touchdowns.
Coach John Donnelly says: “Will and Gio had a record-setting night, but there is so much more about them that is exciting. With those two, it is the intangibles they possess that really get us fired up. They both work extremely hard on their craft. They both demand a great deal from themselves. They are their own hardest critics. They possess so much ability, but when you couple that with grit and determination, that is a deadly combination.”
Brody McAndrew & Ian Sheehan, Neshaminy – The senior duo of quarterback Brody McAndrew and wide receiver Ian Sheehan singlehandedly kept Neshaminy in its game against North Penn. Brody – despite pressure – threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns in Neshaminy’s 55-34 loss. Sheehan was on the receiving end of six passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns for the Redskins, who trailed by just a touchdown in the fourth quarter
Coach Steve Wilmot says: “"Brody McAndrew and Ian Sheehan did what we expected them to do last Friday night. We knew Brody could throw the ball well, and also suspected that Ian would be at the receiving end for many long receptions and touchdowns. Together they combined for six receptions for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Ian has terrific athletic ability and catches the ball well. We expect the chemistry between the two to continue all year."
Jahaire Johnson, Upper Moreland – The junior wide receiver caught six passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns – including a 97-yard TD reception - in Upper Moreland’s 21-0 win over New Hope-Solebury.
Coach CJ Szydlik says: “Jahaire is a very good football player, and he made three or four plays on the ball himself that made all that happen. He’s just one of those players that you’re going to need another guy or two over there to make sure. Whenever he was by himself or with one other person, he’s going to make the play. I think his basketball background plays a lot into it. He’s a unique kid that’s got some serious skills. The 97-yard touchdown was about a 30-yard pass, and he takes it the other 60.”
Josh Consoletti, Central Bucks South – The senior quarterback completed 17-of-23 passes for 269 yards and five touchdowns in Central Bucks South’s 34-24 win over Spring-Ford. He also had 85 rushing yards, accounting for 354 yards of total offense.
Coach Tom Hetrick says: "Josh played with a great deal of confidence against Spring-Ford. We challenged him to play loose and be dynamic and he certainly rose to the occasion. He did a great job of extending plays and giving his receivers a chance to find space. He also did a fantastic job of making things happen for himself when he left the pocket."
Sterling Limo Defensive Players of the Week
Jacob Horton, Souderton – The junior linebacker was a force on defense in Souderton’s 31-18 win over Pottsgrove that saw the Indians open up a 24-0 lead. Horton finished with 10 tackles – six for a loss, three hurries and a fumble recovery.
Coach Ed Gallagher says: “Jacob Horton has been playing very well thus far for us at linebacker. He is reacting quickly and tackling very well. He hit six home runs in the spring as a sophomore on the 6A state championship baseball team, so we are thrilled to have such an excellent athlete and leader back to anchor the middle of our defense as a junior.”
Shane Hartzell, Pennridge – The junior linebacker was the catalyst for a stellar defensive effort that saw the Rams allow just 100 yards of total offense in their 13-0 shutout win over Delaware Valley. Hartzell led the Rams with 10 tackles – three for a loss - and one sack.
Coach Cody Muller says: “One of the things about Shane – he’s actually a captain as a junior. He’s a tremendous leader on and off the field for our team. What he did leading up to that game was prepare himself for the kind of game that he had. I think we saw it as the week went on what his impact was going to be, and the whole team as well as the crowd got to see that impact. Shane is a very hard worker. He makes the big play when you need it.”
Christian Pierce, Plymouth Whitemarsh – The senior linebacker had a huge defensive game in PW’s 42-20 win over William Tennent, leading the Colonials with 10 tackles and an interception. He also had a pair of touchdown receptions in a game that saw PW open up a 42-12 lead before the Panthers scored a late TD.
Coach Dan Chang says: “Christian Pierce was great for us Friday night on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he was all over the field with 10 tackles and an interception. He is not only very physical but also very fast. Offensively he added two touchdown catches and had some great down field blocks.”
Sterling Limo Special Teams Players of the Week
Kenny Grandy, North Penn – The senior wide receiver tied a national record with a 99-yard kickoff return in North Penn’s 55-34 win over Neshaminy. Grandy also caught four passes for 106 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown pass.
Coach Dick Beck says: “During his sophomore year he transferred to LC and then transferred back to North Penn within three months, so by the time he transferred back, he was ineligible for the playoffs, but he was on the team. Last year he could play in the regular season. We were looking forward to getting him eligible for the whole year this year. He’s not big, but he’s fast, runs good patterns and has good hands. The kickoff return was one of those - he saw the seam and he just went. He broke the seam, and once he did that he just outran everybody to the end zone. He had a (69-yard) touchdown catch on a play action. It was a good pass. He ran a very, very good pattern and was very patient with it. It was something we worked on. The way he ran the pattern was important. Plus he also made a couple of big-time catches on third down for us.”
TJ Harris, Cheltenham – The senior standout returned a punt for a touchdown and also ran an interception back 99 yards for a touchdown. Harris also caught a touchdown pass in Cheltenham’s 36-13 win over Council Rock South. His 99-yard interception return was a game-changer and came with Rock South driving on the Panthers’ eight-yard line on the Golden Hawks’ first possession of the game.
Coach Ryan Nase says: “TJ scored a touchdown in three different ways, which is a great example of his versatility and ability as well as his willingness to do a number of different things to help the team.”
Will Leyland, Souderton – The senior placekicker was 4-for-4 on PATs, kicked a 44-yard field goal and had four touchbacks in Souderton’s 31-18 over Pottsgrove.
Coach Ed Gallagher says: “Will is another multiple-sport athlete (also competes in water polo and swimming) who works very hard at his craft. He has greatly improved as a punter (although we didn't have to punt on Friday), and he has a very strong leg. He had four touchbacks on six kickoffs, and was perfect on extra points. Although he was only 1-for-3 on field goals, all three attempts were from outside 40 yards. That should give an indication of our faith in his abilities.”
Sterling Limo SOL honor roll:
Richard Bardone, Bensalem – The senior quarterback rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown and threw for 82 more in Bensalem’s 16-13 win over Frankford.
Kolby Barrow, North Penn – The senior quarterback was solid in his debut, throwing for 147 yards and one touchdown. He ran for 41 more in North Penn’s 55-34 win over Neshaminy.
Andrew Cassidy, Central Bucks East – Cassidy led the defensive charge in Central Bucks East’s 27-13 win over Quakertown, finishing with seven tackles, one forced fumble, two hurries and one pass deflection.
Nick Choi, Plymouth Whitemarsh – The senior placekicker was 6-for-6 on PATs and also had a pair of touchbacks in PW’s 42-20 win over William Tennent.
Brian Dresnin, Plymouth Whitemarsh – The senior fullback was a workhorse for PW in its 42-20 win over William Tennent, finishing with 192 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.
Jack Fallon, Central Bucks West – The senior running back had 128 yards – which included a 64-yard touchdown – on 16 carries in Central Bucks West’s 31-17 win over Hatboro-Horsham.
Byron Hopkins, Upper Moreland – The sophomore quarterback was impressive in his varsity debut, throwing for 265 yards and three touchdowns in Upper Moreland’s 21-0 win over New Hope-Solebury.
Chris James, Neshaminy – The junior running back had 130 yards and one touchdown in Neshaminy’s 55-34 loss to North Penn.
Michael Simgley, Central Bucks East – The senior placekicker was 3-for-3 on PATs and 2-for-2 on field goals in Central Bucks East’s 27-13 win over Quakertown, connecting on field goals of 37 and 24 yards.
Nolan Verespy, John Derkits, Trey Evangelisto, Cam McQueen, Darren Miller, Cory Keim, North Penn – The offensive line paved the way for North Penn to amass 549 yards of total offense – 402 on the ground - in the Knights’ 55-34 win over Neshaminy.
