National Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week

Kelsey Hiltebeitel – Senior center defensive back from William Tennent High School

Notable Accomplishment:
A four-year varsity player, Hiltebeitel – who plays for the Viper club team - has been a three-year starter for the Panthers. She played a key role in Tennent’s 1-0 overtime upset of a Council Rock North squad that went on to capture the National Conference title. A first team all-league defender the past two years, Hiltebeitel has anchored a defense that led the Panthers to a 6-0-1 mark in their last seven games and a second place finish in the conference standings.

Note from the Coach:
Kelsey is looking to play Division One field hockey, and she has the stick work, motivation and definitely the speed to make an impact anywhere she decides to play,” coach Kate Wyatt said. “Kelsey isn’t afraid to take the ball up the field from defense to help with ball movement and field usage. She gives 100 percent all the time.”

About Kelsey:
Part of the game I enjoy most: Setting up for defensive corners and the adrenalin rush as I watch the ball get hit out. Also, knowing that the rest of the defense is there to back me up. It’s the most exciting part.
Best memory playing hockey: Beating Council Rock North in overtime this year and going to district playoffs as a higher seed this year.
My role model is: My mom. Since I was little, she pushed me to do my best, and throughout high school, she has never let me give up on anything I’ve tried to succeed at.
Music that gets me pumped before a game: Unlike most people who listen to hip hop, I’m more of a country music kind of girl. I love it, and it gets me ready and focused.

Continental Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week
Maddie Wagenfeld – Junior goalie from Hatboro-Horsham High School.
Notable accomplishment:
A two-year starter in goal for the Hatters, Wagenfeld routinely has turned in double-digit save efforts this season. During the week ending Oct. 16 that saw the Hatters go 1-1-1, the junior goalie turned away 45 shots, averaging 15 saves a game. During the offseason, Wagenfeld plays for the Mystx. She has been the goalie for squads that won indoor championships in 2007-09. In 2009, her team captured first place in pool play at the AAU National Hockey Festival.

Note from the Coach:
“Maddie has been an invaluable asset to the Hatters’ hockey team,” said coach Melissa Shanley. “Her attitude allows her to make amazing plays on the field. For example, she had 29 saves in just one game. By continually practicing on the field and on her personal time, she is able to produce such results, and it was an honor to be able to coach her this year.”

About Maddie:
Part of the game I enjoy most: I would have to say I enjoy one-on-one diving saves the most because I love the aggression and adrenalin rush of running out to take on a forward. The feeling of sliding through on a forward is the most amazing out of mind moment for a goalkeeper. It’s not just the save that makes it enjoyable. Once it is over the feeling of getting up and holding your head high with pride, knowing that I just made a great save for my team, gives me a great feeling of accomplishment.
Best memory playing field hockey: Participating in Play for the Cure games because they mean a lot to me – to fight for the cure and contribute to the study of breast cancer.
My role models are: Steve Wagner (GoalKeeping 1-on-1), my personal GK trainer who I have been working with for four years, and Jeff Harding, my Mystx coach of the past four years. They have both taught me a lot about the game mentally and physically.
Music that gets me pumped before games: Mike Posner (Cooler Than Me), Kayna West (Power), B.O.B. (Magic), Far East Movement (Like a G6), Cali Swag District (Teach Me How to Dougie), Drake & Nicki Minaj (Up All Night), 3OH!3 (Streets of Gold), etc.

217 Photography American Conference Player of the Week

Amanda McAteer – Sophomore midfielder from Upper Merion High School

Notable Accomplishment:
McAteer has played every minute of every game for the Vikings and has contributed three goals and seven assists. In the Vikings’ 5-0 win over Upper Moreland, McAteer scored two goals and also had an assist. She also dominated play in Upper Merion’s overtime period against Baldwin and contributed an assist on the game-winning goal in the Vikings’ 2-1 win.

Note from the Coach:
“Amanda is the workhorse on our team,” coach Angie Yanocha said. “Her speed is her greatest strength. She is only a sophomore, but the kids really see her as a role model based on her level of intensity and determination on the field. As her coach, I appreciate her love for the game and her ‘never give up’ spirit on the field. Overall, she is just a great player to coach.”

About Amanda:
Part of the game I enjoy most: Shooting and scoring
Best memory playing field hockey: Hockey camp at East Stroudsburg my freshman year
My role model is: Family friend, Michelle.
Music that gets me pumped before a game: Animal by Neon Trees
Vanilla or chocolate: Chocolate
