(For weeks ending Oct. 23 & 30, 2010)

This weekly award is sponsored by Pete Malone and 217 Photography. Winners are chosen based on nomination of coaches.

National Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week

Taylor Frey – Senior sweeper and captain from Council Rock South High School

Notable Accomplishment:
A senior captain, Frey is the only player on her team to start every game since she was a sophomore. Frey is the flier on defensive corners and was successful in breaking down other team’s corners. She has two defensive saves this season and was a consistent force on defense all season. She played a major role in her team’s late-season turnaround that saw the Golden Hawks win their final three regular season games and earn a berth in the District One Tournament.

Note from the Coach:
“Taylor is extremely hard working and an excellent role model for our younger players,” coach Lisa Belz said. “Her work ethic, perseverance and positive attitude are just a few qualities that make her stand out.”

About Taylor:
Best memory playing field hockey: This year when we beat Tennent and everyone came running on the field.
Part of the game I enjoy most: When we get a corner and have that greater opportunity to score
My role model is: Eugene Cussons (from Escape to Chimp Eden…he runs an animal sanctuary)
Music that gets me pumped before games: Any type of hip-hop music. The song ‘Stand Up and Get Crunk’ is my favorite
Chocolate or vanilla: Vanilla!

Continental Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week

Sara Kutz – Senior defensive back from Central Bucks East High School

Notable Accomplishment:
Kutz has been a key member of a defensive unit that led the Patriots to key late-season wins over Souderton (2-0) and Council Rock North (2-0). She also played a major role in East’s 2-0 shutout of CB South in a second round district playoff game.

Note from the Coach:
“Sara is a relentless, athletic and speedy defender, who is dedicated to the team,” coach Marie Meehan said. “She has a positive attitude and is a good communicator.”

About Sara:
Best memory playing field hockey:  Beating undefeated CB South in our third district playoff game this year.
Part of the game I enjoy most:  Winning in sudden death overtime.
My role models are:  My parents
Music that gets me pumped before a game:  "Teach Me How to Dougie"
Chocolate or vanilla:  Chocolate

American Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week
Jackie Hibbs – Sophomore right midfielder from Wissahickon High School
Notable Accomplishment:
Hibbs scored four goals and also handed out two assists in the final week of the regular season. She also had a pair of assists in the Trojans’ second round district win over William Tennent. Hibbs has been a key to the Trojans’ transition and is second on the team in scoring with 13 goals and 15 assists.

Note from the Coach:
“Jackie has really been playing well all year, but recently she has been getting fed the ball a lot because teams are always double teaming Lauren Becker,” coach Lucy Gil said. “She has really great skills, and she is not afraid to take on defenders. I think sometimes because she’s so young she doesn’t know she’s not supposed to be able to do some of the things she does. She is playing really well and carries the ball down the right side beautifully.”

About Jackie:
Best memory playing field hockey: Winning the gold at the National Hockey Festival last year. I played with a team that I had never met before and still had the time of my life.
Part of game I enjoy most: There isn’t a specific part that I enjoy most. I love the game as a whole, especially when it is competitive.
My role model is: Katie O’Donnell because she is a graduate of Wissahickon where I attend and look how far she has gone – literally traveling the world!
Music that gets me pumped before games: Kelly Marolla (a.k.a. SHARKY) and I singing ‘No Hands’ by Waka Flocka
Vanilla or chocolate: Vanilla
