National Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week
Alex Kuzma – Sophomore left wing from Council Rock North High School
Notable Accomplishment:
Ewing started varsity as a freshman but saw her season come to an end when she tore her ACL during warm-ups at last year’s Neshaminy game. The sophomore forward had surgery in November and was back playing hockey in June. Kuzma, who competes with the Mystx club program, has scored nine goals for the Indians, which includes a three-goal and one-assist performance in Rock North’s win over Bensalem last week.
Note from the Coach:
“She has come back stronger than ever,” coach Heather Whalin said. “She listens so well. She played on the right before, but we moved her to the left, and since day one, she has just really listened. Her off-the-ball movement is fun to watch because she gets it. She knows where she needs to cut before the ball gets to the position. She’s one of our corner strikers and has definitely been doing what we’ve asked of her, and she’s very explosive.”
About Alex:
Part of the game I enjoy most: I love inside and outside passing and offensive corners.
Most memorable moment playing field hockey: My first varsity goals as a freshman. It was so unexpected and exciting!
My role model is: Mike Richards, the captain and center for the Philadelphia Flyers. He is one of the highest goal scorers on the team and a great leader
Music that gets me pumped before games: Council Rock North’s warm-up playlist. It has all the best songs!
Vanilla or chocolate: Definitely chocolate
Continental Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week
Maggie Gonsweiski is a senior midfielder for Central Bucks East High School
Notable Accomplishment:
Gonsweiski is a three-year varsity player who has been in the starting lineup the last two years. She plays right defensive midfield for an East squad that last week handed North Penn its first loss of the season. A steady performer, the senior captain, according to her coach, shows strong leadership with focus points at practice and during games.
Quote from the Coach:
“Maggie leads on the field, modeling intensity and desire,” coach Marie Meehan said. “She has a great work ethic, giving all she has any time she hits the field – whether practices or games. She designed our team quote this year that the team ended up voting on – from the movie Friday Night Lights – ‘Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.’ Maggie wants this team to play for one another – together, with focus and heart.”
About Maggie:
Part of the game I enjoy most: I enjoy working offensive balls into the circle and watching connecting passes lead to a goal!
Most memorable moment playing field hockey: East was coming in as the underdog my junior year to play Souderton for a spot in districts. It was freezing cold and pouring rain, but we won in overtime, and it made everything worthwhile. We were all thrilled!
My role models are: Both of my parents for supporting and helping me with everything that I do.
Music that gets me pumped before games: Teach Me How to Dougie; Super Mash Bros

American Conference 217 Photography Player of the Week
Lauren Becker – Junior midfielder from Wissahickon High School
Notable Accomplishment:
A three-year varsity starter who earned all-league and all-state honors last year, Becker leads the Trojans offensively with 14 goals and nine assists. Last week she had the hat trick in the Trojans’ win over archrival Upper Dublin, and she also had a pair of goals against Cheltenham later that week. Becker competes for the U19 Mystx Storm squad that captured the title in the ‘A’ Pool at the National Hockey Festival last year.
Note from the Coach:
“Lauren is an exceptional ball handler,” coach Lucy Gil said of her corner striker. “She is our go-to player. Her speed while dribbling the ball is amazing, and her moves are very deceptive. She has really matured this year and has become a leader on and off the field. She is well liked by her teammates because she is kind and giving. She is extremely coachable.”
About Lauren:
Part of the game I enjoy most: Having the chance to travel and make friends from all over the country all while playing a sport I love.
Best hockey memory: Winning a gold medal at the AAU Junior Olympic games at the University of Iowa
Music that gets me pumped before games: When Jackie Hibbs screams ‘No Hands’ by Waka Flocka Flame
My field hockey role model is: Katie O’Donnell
Vanilla or chocolate: Vanilla
