Julianna Martin, Senior, Pennsbury
Note from the coach:

“Julianna started her journey on the freshman team and has worked and worked her way to the varsity squad this year,” coach Traci Curtis said. “Julianna has so much to offer in the areas of character, maturity, coachability, and understanding her role on the team.  She is not always a starter at the right wing and has embraced the reasons why.  She is honest, compassionate, helpful, and a great teammate. She is a role model of grace, patience, and being a heartful athlete in every situation.”
About Julianna:
My best memory playing field hockey was when I was on the freshman team. I was distraught about not making the JV team as a freshman; however, the freshman team definitely worked out in my favor. I played every position and every second of every game that season. I scored the most goals on my team. Aside from being on the field, I felt like all of the girls on my team needed me as much as I needed them, allowing me to grow not only as a player, but a leader.
Part of the game I enjoy the most:  When either myself or a teammate scores a goal and we all hug and jog back to our side of the field together.
How did you get involved in field hockey? In sixth grade P.E., there was an entire unit dedicated to field hockey. I was only 11 at the time, but I knew that I definitely wanted to try out for the team the following year. My first season as a field hockey player was in seventh grade; however, I really fell in love with the sport in eighth grade (the season of the geese). It was special to be apart of such a big and loving team in middle school.
My role models are both my mom and my dad. They both are so incredibly selfless in everything they do. They always put everyone before themselves, whether it be regularly collecting food donations for a food pantry, or spoiling my sister and me throughout the year. They want me to be successful in everything that I do, but never put pressure on me to be something that I am not. I hope to grow up to be half as generous and kind as my parents.
Music on mobile device: I listen to a wide variety of music, but some of my favorites include Broadway musicals, pop, and Disney throwbacks.
Favorite food: Filet mignon
Favorite class: Spanish!
Future plans: I plan on attending college after high school, but entering undecided. I want to experience and learn about different majors before I commit to anything. I feel that I have not lived enough days to be able to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life!
Four people I’d invite to a dinner party: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michelle Obama, Jimmy Fallon, and Chrissy Teigan.

Nicole Joniak, Senior, Pennsbury
Note from the coach:

“Nicole is an extremely quiet, introverted senior who breaks her silence through skill on the field,” coach Traci Curtis said. “As a new coach, I didn’t really know where she played and she was placed on defense.  It turns out Nicole was a forward. Her defensive IQ was too amazing not to put her in the back and coaches were right.  Nicole stepped up to the challenge without batting an eye and has gone above and beyond expectations - she is a starting defender with a defensive save under belt and a pure strength that has earned her that spot. She shows up working harder every single day.   Her quiet leadership and modeling has been one of the most powerful forces on our team thus far.”
About Nicole:

Best memory playing field hockey:  Playing Tennent after a torrential down pour. We were energized, and I think it was some of the best hockey all of us have played.

Part of the game I enjoy the most: I love the teamwork aspect of the game. I love being able to work together with my teammates and become one unit on the field.

How did you get involved in hockey? Before middle school, I didn’t even know field hockey was a sport. However, my sixth grade gym teacher gave me a flyer for intramural after school, so I went and I fell in love with the sport. I then tried out in seventh grade and made the team.

My role model is: Carli Lloyd

Music on mobile device: I listen to a lot Kesha, Shawn Mendes, and Beyoncé

Favorite food: BBQ ribs and ice cream
Favorite class: any science class
Future plans: I want to major in chemistry and I’d love to play club field hockey in college.

Four people - dead or alive - I'd invite to a dinner party: Ellen DeGeneres, Abby Wambach, Gordon Ramsay, and Greta Thunberg

Anna Gillard, Senior Captain, Central Bucks South
Note from the coach:

Anna Gillard is a versatile, composed, intelligent player who sees the field and distributes the ball well, coach Pat Toner said. She has played varsity since her freshman year and has played whatever position she has been asked to play without complaint. Not only is Anna an excellent defender, she is a team leader on and off the field, constantly working hard to improve not only her game, but also that of her teammates. Her attitude is amazing and she is extremely coachable. Anna is an Academic All-State player and a member of NHS and will attend college and play club field hockey.”
