Bergey’s Inc.
SOL SHSHL Player of the Week

This recognition is sponsored by Bergey’s Inc. Athletes are chosen based on nomination of coaches, and the recipient must be a positive presence on the ice and a credit to the game. Consideration also is given to the student-athlete’s standing in the school and community.

Patrick Smith – Senior at Central Bucks West High School
A two-year captain, Smith not only provides positive leadership for a West squad that has taken tremendous strides this season, he also is a force on attack and has a team-high 16 points after 11 games. His nine assists lead the Bucks, and he also has seven goals. An excellent student, Smith will attend the University of Pittsburgh.

Note from the coach:
“Patrick has been playing for CB West since he was a freshman,” coach Dave Baun said. “He’s seen us go from worst to first, and much of our recent success has been thanks to him. He’s the first guy on the ice for practice and one of the hardest workers while he’s there. Few players I’ve coached have paid as much attention to detail or worked harder to get better. Patrick has been our team captain for the last two years, and he has really come into his own this season. You can see his confidence grow every game.
“Patrick is quiet by nature, and you’ll never hear him criticize a teammate. Instead, his leadership style is one set by his own example. Off the ice, you’ll not find a nicer kid. He’s an excellent student and a credit to our team and our high school. We hope to make this a memorable season for Patrick and all our graduating seniors.”

About Patrick:
Best memory playing high school hockey:
Beating CB East in our Thanksgiving Eve game in a shootout.
Part of the game I enjoy most: Playmaking and scoring goals.
How did you get involved in hockey? A friend leaving soccer practice said he had hockey practice. When I got home, I asked if I could start to play too. At the time, I was five, and now that friend’s dad is my high school coach.
My role models are:  My parents because they work so hard to support my family and be successful.
Music on iPod: Anything but country.
Favorite food:  Steak and Mashed Potatoes
Favorite class:  Macroeconomics
Future plans:  Attend the University of Pittsburgh majoring in finance and economics as well as continue to play hockey.
Four people I’d invite to a dinner party:  Patrick Kane, Claude Giroux, Seth Rogan, John Maynard Keynes.
