Bergey's Inc. SOL SHSHL Player of the Week: Sean Lloyd

Bergey’s Inc.
SOL SHSHL Player of the Week

This recognition is sponsored by Bergey’s Inc. Athletes are chosen based on nomination of coaches, and the recipient must be a positive presence on the ice and a credit to the game. Consideration also is given to the student-athlete’s standing in the school and community.

Sean Lloyd – Junior at Upper Moreland High School
The junior center is one of the most productive players in the league, contributing 29 goals and 21 assists for 50 points in just nine games this season. In addition to being a member of the SHSHL ‘A’ champion Golden Bears, Lloyd, who is the consummate team player, also plays for a Comcast squad.

Note from the coach:
“Sean sees the ice – it’s unbelievable the way he sees the ice,” coach Michael Angelo said. “He’s a very tall player, so his strides – he can just power by you because he’s got such a long stride. Between seeing the ice, his long strides and his incredible hand-eye coordination - he does things with the puck and the stick, and it’s like, ‘Wow, he’s only a junior,’ and he’s done this pretty much since I’ve seen him as a youngster.
“He’s not one of those players that sits on the bench and is all about me. He is everything a team player is. He shares his insights with the other players. It’s never about him. It’s more about the team.
“After we suffered a loss the other night, the players had a closed-door meeting. He was one of the first ones to come out and thank the coaches for what we meant to him and the team.  It just took me aback.
“When you have a player like Sean, to put it plain and simple – it’s like a quarterback in football. He’s your franchise player, and you can build around him. When you have that one key component, now you can add pieces to the puzzle and start building outward, and that’s what we did. He was a key component.”
