On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Wissahickon senior Deanna Bianchini was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to play volleyball at the collegiate level.
Deanna Bianchini – Chestnut Hill College (Volleyball)
Major: Biology
Final list of colleges: Chestnut Hill, University of the Sciences
Reasons for choosing Chestnut Hill: “It just had everything I wanted in a school. It has a beautiful campus, it’s small, the professors are really close with their students, it’s close to home, and it has a really good volleyball program.”
What was the progression that led you to be playing collegiate volleyball? “I always wanted to play. The moment that I saw Misty May and Kerri Walsh win their first United States gold medal, I knew I wanted to play volleyball.
“I played club volleyball, I played middle school CYO and then in high school when they started (the program). I’m short, so it was hard to get recognized, but I worked hard. This is exciting.”
Coach Mary Copelli says: “Deanna will be an asset to her college team. She was a member of Wissahickon’s volleyball team since its inception. She is a very talented and knowledgeable player. Good luck to her!”
