Boys' SOL PIAA 3A Swimming Championships (3-14-18)

The North Penn boys’ team had a good first day at the PIAA Class 3A swimming championships on Wednesday. Check out all the SOL’s top finishers.

LEWISBURG North Penn got off to a fast start at the PIAA Class 3A boys swimming championships on Wednesday at Kinney Natatorium at Bucknell University.

North Penn’s 200-yard medley relay of Ryan Hartmann, Sean Faikish, Noah Jamieson and Ryley Fein finished second in 1:31.51 and the foursome of Hartmann, Nick Clark, Derek Friday and Aidan Daly took fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.65).

Faikish placed third in the 200 individual medley (1:49.11), Hartmann took third in the 100 butterfly (49.41) and Fein came back to take the eighth place medal in the 200 freestyle (1:41.26).

“The medley relay was great,” Faikish said. “That really set the tone for the day. I felt really comfortable. Putting four fast swims together, that makes one good relay.

“Noah, Ryan and Ryley, they’ve all had my back all year. This was the last time swimming with them all together so it was great to go out with a good swim and a medal.”

Also for the Knights, Daly took 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:40.97), Eric Degodny took 19th in the 200 individual medley (1:57.36), Jamieson was 17th in the 100 butterfly (51.11) and 22nd in the 50 freestyle (21.75), Evan Mancini was 30th in the 200 freestyle (1:46.34) and Max Bachman was 31st in the same event (1:47.20) and Evan Meiers was 18th in diving (259.30).

Andy Thomas of Hatboro-Horsham took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.89).

John Scully made the podium in the 50 freestyle with his seventh place finish (20.93) and Luke Emig made the consolation final in the 50 freestyle, finishing tenth (21.11).

Scully, Emig, Thomas and Stuart Sumner finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:22.59).

The Upper Dublin 200 medley relay of Jake DiMartile, Matthew Jensen, Alex Flynn and Joe Gewartowski took the fourth place medal (1:32.37).

Jensen and Flynn both earned medals in the 100 butterfly, with Jensen taking seventh (50.05) and Flynn eighth (50.26).

DiMartile came back to win the consolation heat of the 200 individual medley (1:52.95).

Also for Upper Dublin, Kyle Pro just missed the consolation final in the 200 freestyle, finishing 17th (1:43.43) while Kornel Pesti was 22nd in the same event (1:44.84) and Michael Burke took 15th in diving (360.85).

The Cardinals rounded out the day with a 14th place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.09) by Joe Gewartowski, Pro, Pesti and Nicholas Gewartowski.  

Junior Sam Henninger of Abington picked up the silver medal in diving (497.80). Last year he finished third at this meet and took fourth as a freshman.

“I’m definitely looking forward to next year,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll move up and get a fourth, third, second and then first place medals all in a row. I’m slowly making my way to the top.

“I’m very happy with how I dove.”

Matt Bonnell finished 12th in the 200 freestyle (1:41.34) for the Ghosts.

Souderton’s Wesley Ahart finished fourth in diving (455.10).

Also for the Indians, Storm Krader was tied for 22nd in the 100 butterfly (51.93) and Jake Kramer was tied for 27th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.22).

Krader, William Leyland, T.J. Yaglenski and Kramer finished ninth in the 200 medley relay (1:34.41) and Yaglenski, Krader, Reid Sinkinson and Kramer took 12th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.71).

Caleb Kelly, Niles Rankin, Nick Fiddler and Billy Gallagher joined forces to finish 11th in the 200 medley relay (1:35.54) for Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Gallagher, Kelly, Fiddler and Justin Ruggiero took ninth in the 200 freestyle relay for the Colonials (1:26.24).

Fiddler took 10th in the 100 butterfly (50.77).

Pennsbury’s Matt Humbert finished 12th in diving (367.20 points) and the Falcons’ 200 freestyle relay of Will Deitch, Ben Cusick, Dean Wadley and Matthew Babel finished 18th (1:28.17).

Jackson Green of Central Bucks East took 13th in the 50 freestyle (21.31).

For Central Bucks South, Dan Cohen finished 20th in diving (227.70).
