CB East Announces 2022 Hall of Fame Class

The CB East Hall of Fame Committee is excited to announce the inductees for the Class of 2022. These individuals will be announced on Friday night, October 14th, at halftime of the CB East-Abington football game. A luncheon and formal ceremony will take place at noon on Saturday, October 15th in the CB East Cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.

Tom Kane – Swim Coach

Tom Kane took over the girls’ swim team in the Bicentennial year of 1976. For 46 years he enjoyed helping his swimmers and divers become the best they could be. Under his stead, Kane’s teams swam to a record of 414-136-7.  They won 12 straight SOL Division titles from 1993 to 2004. That streak included 2 wins over North Penn. Over the years his athletes earned 17 ALL-State honors, including Susan Leatham who won the 1986 100 fly State Championship.  Eight East relays earned All-State honors. Eighteen individuals and 8 relays achieved NISCA All-American. His swimmers and divers won 15 District One individual and relay titles. One of Kane’s favorite moments was when Hannah Whitman won swimmer of the Meet at Districts by virtue of her wins in the 200 IM and 100 Breast. His favorite meets were SOL Champs where he watched his girls drop time and make Districts. He tried to keep practice enjoyable by establishing traditions such as Reindeer Relays, Turkey Relays, and “The Word of the Day”. Kane coached at Fanny Chapman from 1971 to 1985, CBAC from 1972 to ’77, taught English at C.B. East where he served as served as Dept. Chair. As he often told his swimmers, “Don’t wait for your ship to come in; swim out to meet it.” MACFAC

Keith Matt (1993) – Golf

Keith Matt stood out on the golf links from 1989 to 1992. He was Captain in 1992 and earned 4 varsity letters. His teams set a State record by winning 88 straight matches. Keith graduated with the second lowest scoring average in East history, 37.8 for 9 holes. He was All Suburban One First Team in 1991 and 1992, and Second team as a sophomore. Keith was a silver medalist at SOL Champs in 1991. In that same year he competed at States, finished with an 8th place medal and Earned first team All-State Honors. In 1992 he garnered a 4th place medal at Districts and qualified for States. He also was selected to represent Pennsylvania in the 1992 National High Scholl Championships in Arizona. He earned a scholarship to Florida Atlantic University, where he was freshman golfer of the year. He finished his college career playing 3 years at Penn State.

Ashley Jones Milone (1999) – Swimming & Soccer

Ashley Jones Milone excelled in Swimming, Soccer and X-Country. She earned 4 letters in swimming, and qualified for Districts and States each year. She led C. B. East to 4 SOL Division titles on teams that went 46-12. Her best events were the 200 and 100 yd. freestyles. Ashley earned ten first team All-SOL awards, and was a 5-time individual champion in the 100 and 200 free. In her senior year, Ashley placed 4th in 200 free and 2nd in the 100 free at Districts, and placed  4th in the 100 free as a sophomore Ashley ranks 3rd All-time at East with her 200 free time, 1:56.61. Overall, Ashley earned All- District One honors in 10 events. Ashley was also an Honorable Mention ALL-State recipient. Ashley earned first team All-SOL in 1997, ’98 & ’99 as a defensive stopper on the soccer field. She captained both swimming and soccer as a senior. She ran X-C in 9th grade and was 2nd team all SOL.  Ashley earned a swimming scholarship to Bloomsburg where she was a three-time NCAA D2 All-American.

Brett Millar (2009) – Track and Field

Brett Millar was one of the best track and field athletes in East history. He also made key contributions to East’s success on the football field. Brett specialized in the javelin event for East Track. He was undefeated in all dual and high school invitational events his senior year. He scored over 100 points for the track team in each of his 3 seasons. 1n 2009, he took second at the Penn Relays and the State Championships. Brett won the District One Championships with a record toss of 219 feet, and placed 3rd at Nike Nationals. In addition, threw the shot put and discus and anchored East’s 4 x 100 relay.  He was named to the prestigious National Federation Track and Field Honor Roll. Brett lettered 3 times in football, playing wide receiver, wingback, defensive back and long snapper. He set a school record with a 102-yard interception touchdown return. After East, Brett competed for both P. S. U. and Pitt in his specialty, the javelin.

Ed Walsh – Swim Coach

Ed Walsh coached the East Boys Swimming team for 37 years. His teams won five SOL Championships and were 275-187-2 during his tenure. Ed thoroughly enjoyed the disparate cast of swimmers and divers during his long career. His goal was always to help his athletes become better people as they passed through the program. His swimmers garnered 13 individual District One Championships and one relay title. He coached Kevin McCann to the 100 yd. Butterfly State Title in 1998. Eight of his swimmers and five relays earned All-State honors. Ed’s swimmers produced 12 individual NISCA All-American swims. Five relay teams also earned All-American status. Coach Walsh produced numerous Bux-Mont and SOL Champions. He also coached CBAC from 1969 to 1987. The aquatic facility at the Bucks Club is named in his honor. Ed served his country in Viet Nam and taught Phys. Ed at Lower Merion, Holicong and Tamanend. He also coached Boys Volleyball in the 1980 and 90s.  His athletes will remember his always sunny disposition which he expressed often by saying, “I’m Just Peachy.”
