STATE COLLEGE, PA – Seventeen minutes constitutes a period in the Pennsylvania Cup championship.

Barring overtime, a regulation game of three periods is 51 minutes long. Central Bucks South needed only 10 minutes and 37 seconds, barely one-fifth of the game, to overcome Bishop Canevin 7-3 and capture its second Pennsylvania Cup win in three years on Saturday.

In that 10:37 of the second period, the Titans scored five goals and blew the Class AA title game against the Crusaders wide open, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 lead. It was no contest after that.

"We just ramped it up and cleaned up some things," said Tom Coyne, coaching his final high school match. "That's the way to take the wind out of their sails.

"We just had to stop running around so much in our own zone. Protect the house, get your skates up ice and let the puck come to you. They (Canevin) were working hard to get the high slot. Once we stopped that and stopped looping in our own zone, the fast break has been pretty good to us."

It was that fast break that got things started for South. Matt Stoll took a pass from Thomas Liberta and broke in on Canevin goalie Neko Borghini and beat him at the 4:35 mark to tie the score at 2-2 to open the second period.

The Titans scored again 27 seconds later. Then they added goals at 12:07, 14:07 and 14:12.

That burst pretty much finished off the Crusaders. Each team scored in the third period to bring in the final score.

That goal explosion was no surprise to South captain and defenseman Connor Matsinger.

"We were just doing what we usually do," he said. "South hockey, getting pucks on the net, trying to keep it simple and it paid off. It's not easy to stay on the gas pedal but the boys found a way to do it."

Titan goalie Kevin Dorozinsky had a unique view of those five goals. He was all the way at the other end of the ice.

What was that 10:37 like?

"A break," Dorozinsky said with a laugh. "A time to rest.

"It was awesome. It was fun to watch."

Stoll scored three of his four goals in that span. Did he ever contemplate scoring four goals in a championship game?

"I didn't," he said. "Once I got one, I don't even know. They just kept coming and coming."

And how about the goal that ignited the fire?

"I'm lucky it went in," Stoll said. "He (Liberta) slid me the puck and I just saw one small spot and I put it in."

For Coyne, it was the completion of his high school coaching career. In it, he has won the two Pennsylvania Cups, beating Canevin both times.

"It feels good," Coyne said. "It's a relief.

"I feel really great. I feel great for the kids.

"I've been with Mats (Matsinger) and (Jared) Conroy and Bert (Liberta) since they were freshmen and Damon (DeLaurentis) and those guys since sophomore year. They're an extension of your family."

Matsinger expressed how the entire team felt.

"It's a great feeling especially with Coyne going out like this," he said. "Just being able to get a win, it was awesome."

Canevin came out roaring in the first period. The Crusaders got on the board first when Daniel Tkac scored an unassisted goal against Dorozinsky at the 6:45 mark.

That lead lasted all of 29 seconds. Stoll notched his first goal of the game off assists from Jackson Koblick and Matsinger.

However, with Conroy off for holding, the Crusaders retook the lead. Lukas Krukovski scored on the power play at 13:09.

Then came the explosion.

Stoll scored the first, fourth and fifth goals. Joe DeLaurentis and Jason Bechtel tallied the others in the period.

Canevin got another power play goal in the third. With Damon DeLaurentis in the box for hooking, Jacob Kuzma cut the South lead to 6-3.

But Stoll came right back. He nailed his fourth goal at 10:59 to finish up the rout.

Stoll caught up with his brother Alex with this win.

"My family's been part of this club for a while," Stoll said. "Now we both have two rings (Flyers Cup and Pennsylvania Cup).

Even the officials on the ice paid homage to Coyne in his final game. All four officials -- referees Kevin Emore and Blaine Forkell and linesmen John Patenaude and Kevin Vena -- were officials from the Suburban High School Hockey League, in which CB South plays.
