On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Central Bucks West seniors Ernie Sanchez & Dominic Berretta were recognized for committing to play collegiate baseball.
Dominic Berretta – DeSales University (Baseball)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: DeSales, Kutztown
Reasons for choosing DeSales: “I kind of knew DeSales was the one. I had a friend from my summer team that went there, and my coach knew their coach pretty well. I really liked the campus and the location and how far it is from my house.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “Just before freshman year, I kind of knew I wanted to play in college because my brother also played in college, and I followed in his footsteps.”
Coach Thomas Spratt: “I’m super proud of Dom Berretta because he grew so much within a year. When I first started coaching Dom – fall to summer, I’ve never seen anyone improve so much in baseball IQ, in skills of the game and strength. He worked really hard in the weight room – he was in the weight room every single day, he was never late for a lift. He’s just a hard worker. He was battling for a starting spot, and by the time the season came around, he was a different player than he was in the fall. I’ve never seen someone grow within one school year and then start getting looks from schools like he did, which is amazing. He’s going to have a great career at DeSales. It’s a really good fit for him.”

Favorite TV show: The Walking Dead
Favorite music: Early 2000’s rock/pop
Ernie Sanchez – Bentley University (Baseball)
Major: Undecided Business
Final list of colleges: Bentley, Lafayette, St. Joe’s, Holy Family, Lehigh
Reasons for choosing Bentley: “It’s a really good school. I loved the field – it’s amazing, and I really liked the coaches and players.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “It’s been my dream probably since about sixth grade to play in college, so ever since then I’ve been competing to get a spot.”
Coach Thomas Spratt: “Ernie is one of the best natural hitters that I’ve seen. He’s very versatile – he can pitch, he plays multiple positions, he has a high IQ of the game, he understands baserunning, and he does the little things right, which really helps him. He’s a phenomenal player, and he worked really hard to get to Bentley, which was his goal from the start. His parents were supportive of him going to Bentley, so it means a lot more because he worked so hard to get there. He had offers and looks from other schools. Bentley is a very tough school to get into, and I’m super proud of him. Ernie’s a great kid, and I think he’s going to have a great career there.”
