MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Sophomore Tyler Jones (Central Bucks West) led LaSalle to a strong showing at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Friday. The men’s team finished ninth out 42 teams in the team standings with 299 points. Jones finished 26th overall out of 386 runners with a time of 24:13 in the 8K race.
Shippensburg junior Sean Stetler (Central Bucks South) placed 98th with a time of 24:56 – a 38-second improvement on his personal 8K best – in the Paul Short Invitational. Shippensburg, which is ranked third in the Atlantic Region and No. 21 in Division II, finished in 22nd place on the 8K gold course.
Sophomore Owen Ward (Harry S. Truman) led Chestnut Hill with a time of 28:20 and finished 100th overall in the Paul Short Invitational on Friday. The men’s team finished 27th out of 29 teams in the 8K race.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Philadelphia University sophomore Sarah Simonetti (Pennridge) was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Week for the third straight week. Simonetti helped her Lady Rams to the team title at the Philadelphia Metro Championships last weekend with a time of 19:26.68. At the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, Simonetti finished third with a time of 22:24 for a Philly U squad that finished third overall.
Bloomsburg senior Andrea Kellock (North Penn) finished in 15th place at the 36th annual Brooks Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Friday. The Huskies finished second.
FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) scored her fifth goal of the season in Rider’s 3-0 win over Sacred Heart University in the NEC opener for both teams on Sunday. The win was the 10th of the season for Rider without any losses. Schneider was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row for games played Sept. 21-27. Schneider extended her goal-scoring streak to three games by connecting for a goal five minutes before halftime in Rider’s 3-0 win over West Chester on Sept. 25. One week earlier, she scored a goal in Rider’s road wins over Appalachian State and Radford. Against Radford on Sept. 20, the freshman forward scored on a rebound 4:59 into the second overtime to break a scoreless tie and preserve Rider’s undefeated start. At Appalachian State on Sept. 19, Schneider scored the fourth goal of the game as the Broncs rolled to a 6-0 win.
Casey Hughes (Souderton) scored a goal in Lock Haven's 4-0 win over Quinnipiac University in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams on Friday. The win was the 25th straight in conference play for Lock Haven, which is 9-3 on the season.
Gwynedd-Mercy College sophomore Dottie O’Neil (Bensalem) earned her second straight CSAC Field Hockey Player of the Week award. O’Neil scored hat tricks in two games, helping her team to a 3-0 CSAC record for the week ending Sept. 28. She had two goals in Gwynedd’s 8-0 win at Marywood University. She then scored three goals in back-to-back wins over Immaculata University (6-0) and Rosemont College (12-0). For the season, she leads the team in goals (11), assists (5), points (27) and game-winning goals (2). Gwynedd is 6-3 overall (4-0 CSAC).
Junior Katie O’Donnell (Wissahickon) scored a goal in Maryland’s 3-0 road win over American University on Tuesday. The number one ranked Terps defeated number three Virginia 3-1 on Sunday to improve to 12-0 on the season.
Junior forward Brittany Kocis (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in East Stroudsburg’s 5-0 win over C.W. Post on Sunday. Junior Jennifer Mullen (Hatboro-Horsham) played the final minutes in goal for the Warriors, who improved to 11-2 on the season.
Senior Breanne Tobin (Pennridge) scored a pair of goals to lead Bloomsburg to a 5-2 win over Kutztown on Saturday. The win avenged the Huskies (11-1, 5-1 PSAC East) only loss of the year. Tobin scored a goal in Bloomsburg’s 5-1 win over Shippensburg on Tuesday.
FOOTBALL
Junior outside linebacker Matt Freed (Souderton), a first team Daktronics Division II and third team Associated Press Little All-American last year, is fourth in the PSAC with 10.2 tackles per game. He has 51 tackles and three sacks. Freed has reached double figures in tackles in 12 of his 16 career starts. He tied for sixth in Division II with 11.5 tackles per game last year and recorded 126 tackles, 11.0 TFL, 4.0 sacks and 4 interceptions. He was a three-time PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week and had 13 or more tackles in six of the Warriors’ 11 games.
Mattan Hoffman (Neshaminy) caught two passes for 31 yards in The College of New Jersey’s 28-7 loss to Kean University on Friday. It was the first loss of the season for TCNJ (3-1).
GOLF
Millersville redshirt freshman Matt Dudas (North Penn) tied for fourth for the best finish of his young career at the WJU Invitational at Moundsville Country Club in Moundsville, W.Va. Dudas opened with a four-over-par 72 and closed with a 75 to finish two shots behind teammate Nick Magenta, who captured the individual title.

Freshman Jeff Pio (William Tennent) scored a goal in LaSalle’s 4-1 win over Marist on Saturday. Ryan Richter (William Tennent) contributed an assist.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Freshman Jenna Gould (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her first collegiate goal in Millersville’s tough 3-2 loss to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday. Sophomore Devon Miniscalso (Council Rock South) scored her ninth goal of the season for ESU.
Freshman Ashley McKenna (Central Bucks South) scored a goal in East Stroudsburg’s 8-0 win over Lake Erie College on Saturday. ESU improved to 8-4-1.
Samantha Fox (William Tennent) scored a pair of goals and Kelsey Stoka (Neshaminy) added a single goal while teammate Kelly Modes (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 6-0 win over Charleston on Saturday. The Huskies are 4-5-2 (3-3-1 in PSAC East).
Senior forward Gayle Kuntzmann (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a pair of goals in Shippensburg’s 4-0 win over Shepherd on Wednesday. Kuntzmann has six goals on the season.
Rutgers junior Ashley Jones (Neshaminy) has started all 13 games for a Rutgers University squad that is 9-1-3. She has scored a team-high eight goals and also has contributed three assists for a team-high 19 points. Junior Kelsey Dumont (Council Rock North) has seen action in 12 games and scored one goal.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Junior Sarah Doherty (William Tennent) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at number five singles in Chestnut Hill’s 9-0 win over Caldwell College on Tuesday. It was the first win of the season for Chestnut Hill.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore setter Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) had six kills, eight digs and five assists while teammate Nicole Corrado (Souderton) had four kills and one block in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 loss to Post University on Friday. Tohanczyn had 18 assists in Chestnut Hill’s 3-2 loss to the University of the Sciences on Tuesday. Corrado had three kills.
