BASEBALL
University of Rhode Island freshman Mike Bradstreet (North Penn) compiled a 4-2 record this year with a 4.97 ERA. His 23 appearances were second on the team. He fanned 30 in 41.2 innings of work. URI finished the year 31-26 (17-10 Atlantic 10).
LaSalle sophomore Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) closed out the season with a .343 batting average (71-for-207) with 35 runs scored and 47 RBIs. He had 21 doubles, three triples and two home runs and boasted a slugging percentage of .502. Teammate Chris Umstead (Pennridge) hit .301 (31-for-103) with 15 runs scored. Adam Kammler (Pennridge) batted .271 (16-of-59) while Eric Kammler (Pennridge) hit .234 (25-for-105). Kevin Christy (North Penn) was 2-7 on the mound.
SOFTBALL
Mount St. Mary’s junior Beth Everist (North Penn) hit .325 (40-for-123) with 20 runs scored for the season just completed. She was second on the team in RBIs (32), and contributed eight doubles and eight home runs. Teammate Courtney Zingle (Hatboro-Horsham) hit .288 (44-for-103) with 36 runs scored. She had five doubles and three home runs. On the mound, Amanda Sadowl (Hatboro-Horsham) was 14-11 with a 3.28 ERA. She struck out 73 in 177.1 innings of work.
Senior Nicole Koren (William Tennent) was a major contributor in the University of Virginia’s historic season that saw the Cavaliers make their NCAA Tournament debut last Friday when they faced Louisville in the Knoxville Regional. Koren entered the tournament hitting .308. Her 12 home runs led the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers defeated Louisville 1-0 on Friday with Koren contributing a double in the sixth inning. The Cavaliers saw their season end on Saturday after they fell to 15th-ranked Tennessee 11-2 as well as 7-4 to Louisville. Virginia’s 13 wins in the ACC set a school record.
