Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews – St. Joseph’s University (Basketball)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  St. Joseph’s, Dayton, Rice, Long Island

Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s:  “I liked the fact that it was close to home. I also liked the size – it was bigger than I thought. The coaches and the kids – it was diverse, and I liked the kids. They were nice, and it seemed like a family, just like Cheltenham.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “I really started getting serious about basketball in fifth or sixth grade because before that it was softball and swimming. Basketball was one of the things I was the best at it, and since my sister swam, we decided – not another swimmer, so we decided I’d take basketball, and hopefully, I’d be good at that.

“I have always just played, and I’ve always said, ‘I’m going to just play and see what happens. Hopefully, everything will take care of itself,’ which it did. It wasn’t until last year when colleges started contacting me that I realized – this is serious. It could happen.

“It was stressful because it happened all of a sudden. After one or two AAU tournaments, colleges started e-mailing and calling. It’s a lot to handle, but it’s really exciting to know where I’m going and my parents will be able to come see me play. It’s exciting to know I’m going to be playing at the next level.”

Cheltenham coach Bob Schaefer says:  “I think St. Joe’s is a real good match for her. I think she’s going to immediately be an impact player and see some time. She won’t be a freshman that comes on the team and watches for a year or two. I think she will get involved.
“She’s already shown the ability to hit the 15-18 foot jump against anybody, which is a major league move. Even in college there are a lot of kids who don’t shoot that great a (pull-up) jump shot. Her jump shot is as good as anybody we’ve ever had or better. She’s also got the speed. She’ll be doing a lot of work on strength, I’m sure, but she’s a great kid who listens and tries to do what you tell her to do. She’s just an all-around great kid.”
