CR North Duo Announce College Choices

On Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, Council Rock North seniors Aaron Morgan and Arron Goodman were recognized at a special news conference for signing letters of intent to play basketball at the collegiate level.

“They’re doing something historic here in terms of our basketball history,” coach Derek Wright said. “We’ve had a real rich basketball history, but I think they’re only the fourth and fifth players to get full scholarships to play college basketball. In our 56-year history, that says a lot.
“They’ve had a great passion for the game ever since I’ve known them and have worked really hard to get to where they are. I think they also realize they have a lot of work ahead of them, but it’s really good to see good things happen to good people.”

Aaron Morgan – UMBC (Basketball)
Major:
Undecided
Final list of colleges:  UMBC, Fairfield, Vermont
Reasons for choosing UMBC:  “It was local, it was close to home, and my mom can come see me play. I’ll have the opportunity to start right away in a good program that’s going upwards, so everything was there. I liked the campus, I liked the coaches and I liked the area. I was looking for a place I felt comfortable at, and right when I came in, it was like family. That’s what I looking for and also a chance to start right away, play for a good program and a good coach, and I found it.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “When schools started calling me at the beginning of my junior year, that’s when I knew if I kept working maybe I could get there. It all paid off, so I’m glad I did it.”
What was the recruiting process like?  “You have college coaches calling a lot, and to get back to them is kind of hard because you’re managing your time and you have to do it on their time as well, but it’s worth it.”
Coach Derek Wright says:  “Aaron’s our leader. He has really brought great passion for the game and a great competitive nature, and he really stepped up last year in big moments in our playoff games. I think that’s where he made his name in the area and in the region. We’ve put a lot of leadership responsibility on him that when he came in as a freshman he probably thought he could never do, and we’re still demanding a lot out of him. He’s our engine – he drives us, and everybody knows it. That’s how it should be as a point guard. As we always say, he guards the ball more than anybody and has the ball in his hands more than anybody. The way he plays is usually how we go.”

He Got Game
Favorite music:  Big Sean

Arron Goodman – Philadelphia University (Basketball)
Major:  Business
Final list of colleges:  Philadelphia University, Stonehill, St. Francis, Sienna, Holy Cross, Jacksonville
Reasons for choosing Philly U:  “The chance to get playing time right away, and I felt comfortable with the team.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “I played varsity as a freshman, and I didn’t really think about it then. After my freshman year, I started thinking about college, and I thought if I played varsity as a freshman I would have a chance to play college basketball.”
What was the recruiting process like for you?  “It wasn’t really that tough actually. I decided Philly U was the best fit. I visited and met with the coaches – (Herb Magee) is a hall of fame coach. It was a pretty easy decision. It was clear I would have a chance to play my freshman year, and I’m playing for a great coach.”
Coach Derek Wright says:  “Arron is another player who just has a great passion to play. He’s been our leading scorer the last two years and is already a thousand-point scorer, which is incredible for him to do that in three years. We’re looking for him to take on a bigger responsibility defensively this year with some of our size gone, but I think he picked a school that’s a really good fit for him, and I think he’s really going to succeed there.”
About Arron:
Favorite movie:
More Than a Game
Favorite music: Young Bead
Favorite food:  Vodka rigatoni without peas and a Shirley Temple on the side
