J.T. Crits – La Salle University (Baseball)
Major: Digital Arts and Multimedia Design
Final List of Colleges: La Salle, George Mason, Temple
Reasons for Choosing LaSalle: "La Salle turned out to be the best fit for me as a baseball player and a student. I am confident that I will be able to perform well in the A10 conference. I will also enjoy being near the city. My brother attends LaSalle and loves it."
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate baseball? "Ever since I was in little league, I had thoughts about making it to the next level. As a freshman in high school, I made the varsity team and got a taste of what it was going to be like for the next four years. Coach Gunby helped me become the player I am today because of his knowledge of the game both physically and mentally. In the summer of my sophomore and junior years, I played with the Philly Bandits, coached by Dave Amaro. While playing for the Bandits, I was able to play against high level competition with great coaching. I was also able to get my name out there. Both of my coaches were very instrumental in my college search and decision to play baseball at LaSalle University."
Coach Shannon Gunby says: "JT’s resume speaks for itself. He was named the Top Rated first basemen in Southeastern PA by the Philadelphia Inquirer this past season, 1st Team All-Conference (second consecutive year) and selected to the Carpenter Cup Team (second consecutive year).
He has been a starter since his ninth grade year and has worked very hard to become the player he is. His defense was a strong suit for him when he first arrived in our program and that has continued. He had two errors in 122 chances last season. Offensively, JT knew that he needed to improve to reach his dream of playing Division I baseball. He attacked improving his hitting like he does everything else in life, with passion and commitment. This past year he hit .482 and went on a tear midway through the season where he had an extra base hit in six straight games.
I think that he will be a great fit for Coach Lake at LaSalle not only as a baseball player but also as a student. He is one of the most diverse players I have coached. He is extremely musically talented, excels in the classroom and was our varsity quarterback the past two seasons."
