Cross & Purvis Named to All-ESPN Rise Team

Five Philly girls – Radnor’s Kelyn Freedman and Allie Martin, Springfield-Delco’s Shannon Burns, Hatboro-Horsham’s Lauren Purvis and Upper Dublin’s Amy Cross – have been named to the All-ESPN Rise Champion Showcase team.
The girls, along with four other Philly girls, competed in the invitational event Sunday and Monday at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The event drew 80 of the top scholastic seniors in the country to an All-Star showcase that featured round robin play and championship play for four teams. The event was sponsored by US Lacrosse.
Freedman, a midfielder headed to Georgetown, was named MVP for Team Liberty and was instrumental in helping her team win the championship. The honor caps a season in which Freedman won every conceivable honor possible – a second straight Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association title, MaxPreps National Player of the Year, Phillylacrosse.com Player of the Year, US Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American, National Tournament Seniors MVP and Vail Shootout MVP.
Burns, a midfield headed to Delaware, stood out for Team Pride with a goal and an assist in two games. According to ESPN Rise, she showed great awareness and decision-making ability and displayed tight stick skills throughout the tournament.
Cross, a midfielder headed to Syracuse, stood out for runner-up Team Liberty,
Martin, a midfielder headed to Penn, was a key playmaker for Team freedom.
Purvis, a midfielder headed to Penn State, was the Team Pride MVP. Purvis was recognized for moving the ball well to her teammates and sparking the fast break.
