Rebecca Erb – Post University (Softball)
Major: Undeclared but considering early childhood education or sports management
Final list of colleges: Post, Temple, Drexel, Shepherd, Villanova
Reasons for choosing Post: “Christina Udris (Neshaminy) and I went on our visit together, and we verballed at the same time. I loved the coach, and I loved my visit. It’s a small school, and I didn’t want to go to a big school.
“Post plays Philadelphia University and Holy Family, and my parents will be able to see games around here. I did want to go out of state, so that’s another reason I chose Post.”
What was the progression that led to a softball scholarship? “There was a lot of pressure. I was getting nervous about what school I was going to go to. I started e-mailing colleges and colleges started e-mailing me the summer going into my junior year.
“I started getting a lot of e-mails and texts from Post since August before my senior year. I went on a visit, and I absolutely loved it. I’m excited to play Division II softball at that kind of level.”
Coach Frank McSherry says:   “She had an unfortunate (season-ending) injury - it’s a shame it happened her senior year. She’s a kid that played third base and was really tough defensively. She has really good reflexes and a really, really strong arm.  She’s a terrific defensive player.
“This year she was our power hitter. Last year she took a little bit of a backseat to Kirby (Groves) and Lauren (Rossi), but she can hit the heck out of the ball. She was having such a good year. She was batting over .400. She’s the kind of kid that consistently puts the ball in play and hits with power. You want her in the three spot, so she can get as many at-bats as possible. She’s just a sweetheart of a kid.”

Kait Schilling – California University of Pennsylvania (Softball)
Major: Elementary Education
Final list of colleges: Millersville, McDaniel College (Md.), Gwynedd-Mercy
Reasons for choosing California: “The campus is beautiful. I loved it – I would go there without playing softball. It was so nice.
“The coach is really good, and he reminds me a lot of (coach Frank) McSherry because he knows exactly what he wants, and he knows what he’s talking about. The team is really good. They play hard.”
When did you start thinking about playing softball at the collegiate level? “Ever since I watched it on TV – Florida State and all those schools. That’s where I always wanted to go, but then I realized how hard Division One would be.
“It was so stressful sending all the e-mails out to all the coaches, but I’m so excited. I can’t believe it’s happening. I remember when I came here as a freshman, and I can’t believe I’m leaving already.”
Coach Frank McSherry said: “Kait has been great. She has been with us for four years. She came in freshman year and had a bit of an attitude, which was good. The seniors would try and tease her a little, and she would have none of it. Right then and there, we knew we had a gamer.
“She paid her dues the first couple of years playing behind kids, but she took over her junior year and had some great games.  It just seems she pitches her best games in the biggest games.  She’s another kid who’s a sweetheart.”
