The selection committee that put together the brackets for the 2010 Class AA Flyers Cup Tournament got it right.
The top four seeds - #1 Council Rock South - #2 Council Rock North - #3 Downingtown East – and #4 Pennsbury all have advanced to the Class AA Final Four.
The semifinal games will be Monday night at Hatfield Ice World. Rock South will have a 7 p.m. face off with Pennsbury while Rock North will drop the puck at 9 p.m. against Downingtown East.
The winners of these two semifinal games will face off for the 2010 Flyers Cup Class AA trophy in a game to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday – again at Hatfield Ice World.
“I think the final four teams says a lot about the strength of our league,” said Council Rock North head coach Eric Tye in reference to the Suburban High School Hockey League. “We have three teams in the final four, and I don’t think there was anyone surprised by that.”
“We haven’t had to play anyone outside of our league during our Flyers Cup play,” said Council Rock South head coach Joe Houk. “To beat these teams for a third time is hard. They know what you are all about.”
The only thing that would stand in the way of an entire SHSHL Flyers Cup Final is unbeaten Downingtown East.
But if that selection committee is as accurate as it has been to date – look for a Council Rock South and Council Rock North Flyers Cup Final.
Right?

“Pennsbury is a very deep team, and there isn’t really one player to focus on,” added Houk. “They like to pound you, and you have to be prepared for that.”
Council Rock goaltender Sean Boyd says - “Our goal is to win back-to-back Flyers Cup championship,” said Boyd as the Hawks bested North Penn in last year’s Class AA Flyers Cup title game. “We had a good practice, and we know what we have to do to shut them down.
“The last game we played with Pennsbury was a great game,” added Boyd in reference to the 1-1 tie in the second regular SHSHL contest between the two teams. “I expect to see a lot of shots.”
Pennsbury Head Coach John Bria says – “We have confidence that we can play with Council Rock South,” Bria said. “I think we can stay with them if we play good, sound, defense in our own zone. We can’t make turnovers in our end.
“(Rock South) can put the puck in the net, and they have been doing that all year,” added Bria. “We are going to have to take advantage of any mistakes that they make.”
Pennsbury goaltender Corey Chapin says – “We feel that we can beat Council Rock South,” said Chapin. “We played great in that 1-1 game, but we feel that we can get more shots on the goalie. If we do that, we can get the win.”
