Eliana Gilette – Lock Haven University (Field Hockey)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges:  Lock Haven, Millersville

Reasons for choosing Lock Haven:  “It was a late thing, and I didn’t know which school I wanted to go to, but I decided Lock Haven because education-wise, they have what I wanted. I just decided a week ago. It was really late in the process, but I knew I wanted to go there.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey?  “I just started thinking about playing in college last year when I started playing indoor.  I really wanted to do it.
“The (Lock Haven) head coach called and wanted me to come for a visit. I went there about three weeks ago, and it all happened really fast.”

Coach Stacie Staufenberg says:  “(What made Ellie so good was) her dedication and her love of field hockey. Those two things are critical, and she has both. I think she loves this game more than she likes to breathe.
“In the cage, she scrambles, she has quick feet and she never gives up. She scrambles and she always has her eye on the ball. She kept the numbers down and helped us get to the first round of districts. She had a huge save percentage, and she came up with huge saves when we needed them, and that’s what a good goalie does for you.
“Ellie was a leader and also with all the time all the time she dedicated to our youth program to develop new goalies and bring that enthusiasm to the high school level, so she was part of the whole team that we’re trying to build here.
