Horsham junior midfielder Cortnee Daley has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Louisville.Hatboro-Horsham junior midfielder Cortnee Daley has committed to Louisville
Daley was a Second Team Suburban One Continental pick last year, helping the Hatters finish 13-5 and reach the second round of the District 1 playoffs. She plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix.
Daley, an Honors student who also is captain of the Hatboro-Horsham field hockey team, plans to focus her studies on Business or Sports Administration.
Louisville, in its fourth season of existence, finished the 2010 campaign with an overall record of 11-6 and 4-4 in the Big East.
Daley developed a strong relationship with the Louisville coaching staff while at Maximum Exposure. Maximum Exposure is an Under Armour sponsored camp that gives some of the best talent in the country a place to compete and get exposed to college coaches.
“The girls were so kind and nice, they made me feel welcomed,” she said. “I got to see how the city was involved, everyone loves the sports team.
“I saw a billboard for the lacrosse team and it kind of shocked me. It was incredible how much the community supports Louisville athletics.”
Daley is the second Hatter to commit to play college lacrosse. Senior defender Hannah Vogel has signed a letter of intent to play Division II lacrosse at Millersville.
Daley will join a strong contingent of Philly players at Louisville, coached by Kellie Young. Owen J. Roberts senior Emily Kolsevich has signed with Louisville and four members on the Cardinals roster are from Philly.
One is former Gwynedd Mercy Academy star Bergan Foley, who has scored more than 200 in her career. The other Philly grads at Louisville are junor attack Brooke Campbell (Conestoga), freshman midfielder Colleen O’Malley (Great Valley) and freshman defender Kelsey Garraty (Ridley).
Daley is excited to start the season under new head coach Duncan Swezey Sr.
“Our goal for the season is to set the standards higher for our program,” Daley said. “We really want to show people that we are a great lacrosse program. We want to beat (defending champion) North Penn. We have a lot of starters coming back so we definitely want to go deeper in the playoffs.”
