Hatboro-Horsham's Kearney & Lundy to Play Collegiate Softball

On Thursday, May 18, 2023, Hatboro-Horsham seniors Tess Kearney & Amya Lundy were recognized for committing to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level.

Tess Kearney – West Chester University (Softball)
Major:
Graphic Design
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Jefferson University
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “I really like the school, the coaches and the team.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “I always knew I wanted to play in college, and once you get into high school, your travel coaches start talking to you about it. They helped me through the recruitment process. You email every school you can, and whatever school you’re most interested in and they’re most interested in you is how it works out.”
Coach Jen Tooley says: “Tess started off the year injured. In the preseason, she hurt her ankle, so the first 1 ½-2 weeks she was not even playing, but once we got her in the lineup, she was great. She hit over .500 and had the highest batting average on our team. She had over 100 career hits in three years since the seniors didn’t have a freshman season due to COVID.  She played centerfield, and she was a leader in the outfield. We had a freshman on either side of her. She’s a very quiet leader – she was one of our team captains, and she was the quiet one, but she didn’t need to speak because she leads by example.”
About Tess:
Favorite food:
Pasta
Favorite TV show: The Office
Favorite music: “Anything but country”

Amya Lundy – University of Maryland, Baltimore County (Softball)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges: UMBC, Binghamton, Delaware
Reasons for choosing UMBC:  “They offered me really early my junior year, so they made me feel wanted. They just won their fourth conference title in a row, so it just made me see – that’s the type of team they are.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “I’ve always wanted to play in college. I used to come and watch my sister play at Hatboro-Horsham, and I always would write on my goal sheets in fifth grade – I want to be a captain, I want to be on varsity freshman year, and I always knew.”
Coach Jen Tooley says:  “Both Amya and Tess would have been four-year starters, but their freshman year was the COVID year, and they didn’t have a season. Amya played third base and would fill in at shortstop for us as well depending on who was pitching. She was also a captain, and she’s intense and passionate for the game. She is a vocal leader as well as a demonstration leader. She’s a powerhouse, and any team we faced - they pitched around her. They did not want to see her hit. She’s very powerful and was our RBI leader. For her career, she had over 100 RBIs.”
About Amya:
