Hatboro's Crookham Signs With ODU

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, Hatboro-Horsham senior Conner Crookham was recognized at a news conference for signing a letter of intent to play baseball at Old Dominion University

Conner Crookham – Old Dominion University (Baseball)

Major:  Finance

Final list of colleges:  ODU, Binghamton University

Reasons for choosing ODU:  “The conference ODU is in is good, and it’s competitive, and they have what I wanted to major in. It has nicer weather than Binghamton – it’s a lot warmer.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate baseball?  “I have wanted to play in college my whole life, but I just got serious about it this summer. That’s when everything started coming together for me.
“It was tough. You have to keep up with all the coach’s e-mails and everything. I’m relieved that it’s over.”

Coach Pete Moore says:  “He’s a four-year guy for us. His freshman year he played shortstop about a half a year for us. His sophomore year he played third base for us every day, and last year he played shortstop. He’s always been a tremendous defensive shortstop. I remember the first time I really noticed him was at our baseball camp. He was there as an eighth grader, and he was fielding ground balls left and right – just his actions were so smooth. I turned to a couple of the other guys and said, ‘Am I crazy or could this guy step in for me right away and play shortstop?’ They said, ‘Absolutely.’ There’s no doubt about it, from day one he had the defense, and he has worked on his hitting, and he has become a very good hitter as well.
“ODU is losing four of their infielders, so he’s going to have an opportunity to play infield. They also like him as a pitcher, so they’ll give him a chance to be a two-way guy where he throws in relief, but primarily, he’ll play shortstop.”
