Hatters Capture Continental Doubles Title

Hatboro-Horsham’s Dylan Ashbach (12th) and Rohan Varma (11th) completed a Hatters (6-4 overall, 4-3 SOL) sweep of the singles and doubles SOL Continental Conference titles today by defeating Brad Johnson and Dale Johnson (9th graders) of Central Bucks West in a dramatic three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).  The three-hour match featured amazing points, epic games, and match points defended by both pairs.  In the end HH's Ashbach and Varma edged the dynamic West freshmen to capture Hatboro-Horsham's second tournament title of the 2014 season (Ashbach previously won the singles title).  The Hatters and Bucks teams will be joined by the Pennridge pair Chandot Phan and Jessie Herb - who defeated Sean Kimball and Christian Cedarland from CB East in the consolation match 6-4, 6-3 - at District Doubles next Friday, May 9.

For Dylan Ashbach and Rohan Varma, Hatboro-Horsham's 1 and 2, the doubles title is another accomplishment in a season characterized by comebacks and camaraderie. The teammates were pushed to the brink by the Johnson twins (Dale and Brad), and both teams earned each other's respect and admiration.  The seeding meeting for the District tournament is Tuesday evening at PW.
