Hatters Roll on Crews' Control

HATTERS ROLL ON CREWS’ CONTROL

Senior Tyler Crews sparks Hatboro-Horsham’s 3-1 road victory at Plymouth Whitemarsh

By Scott Samuel David Weiss (Plymouth Whitemarsh class of 2011)

NORRISTOWN(PA)- When Plymouth Whitemarsh opened their 2011-2012 boys bowling season at Hatboro-Horsham, the Hatters did not have senior Tyler Crews in their lineup, although the Hatters pulled a 3-1 victory against the Colonials; however, when Scott S.D. Weiss reported the game in an article, Weiss mentioned that the Hatters no longer had Crews, but Weiss did not recognize that Crews is a senior and was not available for that match.

In the Tuesday January 3, 2012, Suburban One American/Continental boys bowling match at Facenda Whitaker Lanes, the visiting Hatboro-Horsham Hatters took their bowling to the chin of the host Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials, 3-1 (987-934, 978-864, 871-947= 2,836- 2,745). While Crews had his presence felt substantially in the Hatters’ lineup, the Colonials were without their usual leadoff bowler in senior Alex Lesse, in which the leadoff role was filled by junior Joey Galleo.

The first game of this league match consisted of four Hatters 200+ scores, with the exception of Joe Chandler, who recorded 141 and was replaced by Connor Ferris in the eighth frame. Crews started the first set with a turkey, finishing the set with 201 pins. PW senior Andrew Rexroth recorded a turkey in frames two through four. Entering the sixth frame, the Hatters’ lane randomly shut off, but resumed in the next four minutes. Galleo churned a not head pin strike with the help of the six and three pins in the eighth frame for his fourth consecutive strike of the game, en route to 203. Joe Chandler of Hatboro-Horsham rung a hambone of five consecutive strikes in frames four through eight.

Moving on to the second set Crews was on cruise control during frames three through seven by delivering a hambone (until seven + two on the eighth). The senior four-hole Hatter also rolled four consecutive strikes to finish the set with 245. Galleo and sophomore Nathan Enslin each doubled on their first two frames, but senior Dave Duncan had PW’s only other game two double (during frames eight through nine). PW senior anchor Julius Selfinger concluded the second set with a six-minute pin resetting difficulty, in which he rolled eight + one for 172.

As the third set was underway, Rexroth bid the opening frame with a horrific welcome by guttering on the first roll and added seven. Galleo notched his turkey on the sixth frame through hopping pins creating a domino effect on one another (he stretched that turkey into four in a row), ultimately finishing the set with 193 and the match with 558. After strikes through the first five frames, the perfect game bid for Crews concluded in the sixth frame, scoring nine + open, standing with 147 after six frames. Mike Ruddock quietly recorded a turkey for Hatboro-Horsham behind Crews’ hambone. While Crews rode on incredible heights, PW received turkeys during frames seven to nine from Enslin and Duncan; moreover, Enslin finished nine-spare-eight for 205, and Duncan had six consecutive strikes before nine on his final roll (Duncan marked every frame in the third set). Crews recorded eight strikes in the third game en route to 236 and an impressive 682 series, although the Hatters dropped the set to PW, 871-947.

Plymouth Whitemarsh (10-10 SOA/C; 2-3 match record) will visit the Upper Moreland Bears at Thunderbird Willow Grove on Wednesday January 4,2012, at 3:00 PM. The Colonials have yet to sweep an opponent this season- the Colonials took three games each against visitors Pennridge (12/14/2011) and Abington (12/19/2011), two at North Penn in criteria loss (12/21/2011), and recorded two game victories in eight games against the Hatters (Hatboro Horsham won the 2011-2012 season series, 6-2).
