Jackie Hibbs – University at Albany (Field Hockey)

Major:  Communications with a minor in Business

Reasons for choosing Albany:  “The coaches, and academically, it’s a great school. The girls on the team were really nice, and they’re good at field hockey.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey?  “Just through my club team, I realized my freshman year going into my sophomore year that I could do it, but I knew all along I wanted to play in college from the time I was in middle school.”

Coach Lucy Gil says:  “Not only was Jackie our go-to player, people would make sure they passed to her because she could get by the next defender. She has amazingly deceiving stick skills. She would make the defenders go to one side, and she would use the other side. Her ability to get the ball into the circle, take a shot so that all someone had to do was tip it in – that’s where she got all her assists with her ability to get it into the circle. She shattered the school record in assists.
“Personality-wise, Jackie is such a character. She just added comic relief and just knew how to break the tension whenever we needed to and when to get really tough on the girls when we needed that too. She was an awesome captain. She not only led by example but really pushed the girls.
“Both Emily and Jackie Hibbs have worked so hard, and they are extremely deserving. They were awesome captains, and they led our team to work really, really hard. They also do club teams year round, and it shows. That’s what makes the biggest difference.”
