KickNWear Boys' Soccer Athletes of the Week (Week 5)

KickNWear SOL Boys’ Soccer Players of the Week

(For week ending Oct. 8, 2010)

This weekly award is sponsored by KickNWear – a complete soccer store located in Lansdale. Winners are chosen based on nomination of coaches.

National Conference KickNWear Player of the Week

Justin Massaro – Senior forward from William Tennent.

Notable Accomplishment:
Although, William Tennent lost two tough matches at the beginning of last week versus upper tier league opponents, Justin Massaro didn’t let them go down without a fight. He generated much of Tennent’s offense against both Council Rock North and South, with the latter only defeating the Vikings 2-1. Massaro then led the team to a 3-0 win over Bensalem to finish off the week. Throughout these three games, he consistently put himself in dangerous positions and was able to beat many defenders off the dribble.

Note from the Coach:
“Justin has been an extraordinary leader this year,” says his coach, Luke Gibson. “He and the other captains have set high expectations, and he has worked and forced his teammates to work to meet them each day. His ability to not just score goals, but timely goals, makes him a Division One prospect.”

Continental Conference KickNWear Player of the Week

Cody Zickler – Senior forward from Pennridge.

Notable Accomplishment:
Zickler is an extremely gifted athlete that possesses the intangibles that all great players need. His speed and strength with the ball make him difficult to defend and his technical ability to beat defenders one-on-one is near the top of the difficult Continental Conference. Zickler helped lead his team to a three-win week during which Pennridge took down CB South, North Penn, and CB East, taking the Rams to the top of their conference. He scored a sensational goal (far post, upper corner) against North Penn from 20 yards out against an all-league goalie that sealed the Rams’ victory.

Note from the Coach:
According to head coach, Peter Valimont: “He is a leader on the field and off, and it has been a pleasure to watch him mature and develop over the past three years!”

American Conference KickNWear Player of the Week

David Goldberg – Junior forward from Cheltenham.

Notable Accomplishment:
David Goldberg is Cheltenham’s most dangerous offensive weapon and demonstrated this to be true last Saturday night against Hatboro-Horsham. In this game, he broke a 2-2 tie with an unbelievable bicycle kick from the penalty dot that struck one post and snuck inside the other. This halted all of the Hatters’ momentum and enabled the Panthers to eventually win 4-2. Goldberg also assisted the game-winning goal against Upper Dublin in overtime to start off the week. And with the Panthers also beating Upper Merion last week, Goldberg’s flashy goal allowed Cheltenham to complete a very impressive 3-0 week.

Note from the Coach:
“Although he hasn’t scored as much as he may have liked, he’s been very productive offensively nonetheless,” offers Goldberg’s head coach, Nick Zegestowsky. “I’ve seen countless games in my life and David’s bicycle kick has to be the best goal I’ve ever witnessed.”

About David:
Favorite professional soccer player: Lionel Messi
Best soccer memory: Scoring the game winner off of a bicycle kick against Hatboro- Horsham.
Part of the game I enjoy most: I like the physical aspect the most, but also hanging out with the team.

Musical artist that gets me pumped before games: Eminem
Chocolate or vanilla: Chocolate
