KickNWear SOL Girls’ Soccer Players of the Week*

(For week ending Sept. 25, 2010)

This weekly award is sponsored by KickNWear – a complete soccer store located in Lansdale. Winners are chosen based on nomination of coaches.

National Conference KickNWear Player of the Week

Caitlin Hannagan – Junior forward from Council Rock North High School

Notable Accomplishment:
Last week Hannagan produced two goals and an assist in CR North’s win over Harry S. Truman and a goal in its win over Pennsbury. After a breakout season last year when she tallied double-digit goals and assists, she has started the year right where she left off. Hannagan has been a big part of the team since her freshman year, and this year she is even more of a scoring threat than ever.

Note from the Coach:
“Even when she is having an off day, you never know when she will score.  Caitlin is a technically sound player, and a hard worker. She is constantly trying to improve and is very coachable.  It is her hard work that makes her a threat at any point of the game,” says CR North coach Roman Escobar.

About Caitlin:
Favorite professional soccer player: David Beckham
Best soccer memory: Winning the US Regionals with the PA Strikers in Maine
Part of the game I enjoy most:Beating someone one-on-one
My role models are: My parents, of course!
Musical artist that gets me pumped before games: Bass Hunter
Chocolate or vanilla: No brainer - Chocolate!!

Continental Conference KickNWear Player of the Week

Alex Ruth – Senior center midfielder from North Penn High School

Notable Accomplishment:
Ruth has been a study in consistency in the midfield for the Maidens this season. The senior captain is a cornerstone of both the Maidens’ offense and defense and brings stability to a lineup that features some new faces.

Note from the Coach:
“Alex is a leader, and other girls look up to her, and not only Alex – but the other two captains as well have helped create the bond off the field that has benefitted us on the field. She’s part of the catalyst for the bond as far as keeping the team together off the field,” coach Jim Dehner said.

About Alex:
Favorite professional soccer player: My favorite professional female soccer player would be Brandi Chastain, but my favorite professional male soccer player would definitely be Cristiano Ronaldo for very obvious reasons.
Best soccer memory: I don’t really have a specific memory that is my favorite while playing soccer. Being appointed captain of the North Penn team was an honor and a very important moment in my life, but the unforgettable friendships I’ve made and the amazing people I’ve met throughout my whole life stand out to me the most out of everything.
Part of the game I enjoy most: The moment after someone on our team scores and the satisfaction of knowing that our hard work is paying off. Hard work is always rewarded somehow, but when it is in the form of a beautiful goal, there’s nothing better.
My role models are: My parents because they both have worked extremely hard throughout their lives to make sure that my sister and I are happy and healthy. My mom recently overcame breast cancer, showing me that strength in life is so important, and my dad was once a great soccer player but was never supported by his parents. In my life, he has supported me 100 percent, and I am so thankful for him and my mom.
Musical artist that gets me pumped before games: Eminem or Nelly. I enjoy pretty much all genres of music, but before games, their songs just have a way of inspiring you to do your best.
Chocolate of vanilla: Chocolate all the way, although vanilla and chocolate twist is always an compelling option.

American Conference KickNWear Player of the Week

AllieDayno Senior goalkeeper from Upper Dublin High School

Notable Accomplishment:
Allie Dayno was able to secure clean sheets against Norristown and Plymouth Whitemarsh last week and has been a consistent presence for Upper Dublin in the back.  She has been a consistent shot stopper and has done a great job of not giving up any second chances on goal. In addition, Dayno also found herself on the score sheet by scoring a goal in the Norristown game while playing the field in the second half.

Note from the Coach:
“Dayno has done a great job of organizing the back four this year and has come up big in multiple ‘one-on-one’ situations,” notes her coach, John Topper.

About Allie:
Favorite professional soccer player: Fernando Torres
Best soccer memory:  Winning the division three years in a row
Part of the game I enjoy most: The moment after making a big save
My role models are:  My parents
Musical artist that gets me pumped before games:  Super Mash Bros
Chocolate or vanilla:  Chocolate
